I couldn't see an existing thread on this, apologies if there is and I missed it.

Anyway, as it says in the thread title. New series starts tonight.

Yay!

Have you seen there's a new Bake Off musical? I'm very tempted 😂

Me too. There is always a contestant I really warm to and this year it is Janusz, so I am only watching out of loyalty to him, really.

Pottery throwdown and Sewing Bee have taken over GBBO's comfort blanket lovely telly mantle.

He's lovely isn't he.

I agree about Throw Down and Sewing Bee too.

Sad to see Dawn go, although I think it was the right decision. She seemed to have the measure of PH and wasn't having any of his nonsense. I liked that.

I'm getting bored of the whole programme now. I used to watch religiously. But really can't be bothered now.

Same here - I'm keeping up with this thread just out of curiosity to see who gets dropped each week, but I don't have the interest to watch it any more.

like @Piggywaspushed , I'm going to satiate myself with Sewing Bee and Pottery Throwdown, and The Woodworker one. Couldn't get into All that Glistens - I didn't like the judges. A friend has told me it's improved, but I don't have the interest.

Oh?

@Emotionalsupportviper I caught the last five minute yesterday. To see who had left. Not bothered watching on catch up.

Sandro is making this absolutely unwatchable for me. It is almost like he is auditioning for his own show. every bloody week

He thinks he is crempat. He ain’t.

My favourites have gone (this week and last) and I too just watch the end to see who has gone.

Not happy. It is ruined. 😖

DietrichandDiMaggio · 19/10/2022 22:48

I think the reason that we had Halloween week so early is because the series started airing earlier in September than it has for the last couple of years, but when they filmed it they wouldn't have known that would happen, and obviously they can't show them out of order.

I can remember when the new series used to start in August, but can't remember when it changed to being later in the year - maybe when it moved to C4, or maybe it was during the pandemic?

ArcaneWireless · 19/10/2022 23:45

My new favourite is Kevin who was on a very shoogly peg this week.

ForkHandler · 20/10/2022 11:50

Kevin is my new favourite too; he's giving off serious 'WTF?' vibes, doggedly working through his carefully prepared Early Era Bake Off repertoire of clooty dumpling and Amusing Marzipan Dogs while Paul and Prue demand suspended pinata and savoury mausoleums within a ninety minute deadline.

woodhill · 20/10/2022 15:46

I like Kevin too

BestIsWest · 20/10/2022 16:23

Kevin is my favourite too.

MrsMitford3 · 20/10/2022 19:11

Kevin has really grown on me-his story about being Christian and not being allowed to be scary for halloween-with his friend going as Toulouse Lautrec had me in stitches

Winniewonka · 20/10/2022 22:48

Is it just me or does anyone else think Abdul slipped under the radar this week? I was sure that he would be one of the contestants considered for elimination.

BishyBarnyBee · 21/10/2022 06:48

I think Abdul could go either way. He has moments of brilliance but an inedible mirror glaze is not good no matter how beautiful it was. He could be one of those who builds over the series or could go out next week...hard to say.

I quite disliked Kevin at first because he came over as a bit miserable and serious about it but he's grown on me and I love him now. We're at the stage where I don't want any of them to go except maybe Janusz who comes across a bit smug - though he might just be thoroughly enjoying himself.

My prediction at this point is:

Kevin leaves W7
Abdul leaves W8
Sandro leaves W9

Final:
Maxy
Syabira
Janusz

Maxy wins.

BUT - there could be a shock Jurgen style departure in the semi final, Janusz or Syabira crashes out and Sandro makes the final.

I quite like Sandro but can't forgive the programme for changing the rules to allow him to compete. The rules - including for this series - stated very clearly that you must never have worked in a professional capacity. they now say you must not be employed by a commercial organisation as a baker, cook or chef. That's very different.

It was hilarious, particularly because I am/ was (it's complicated) a Christian and it rang so true to me.

I like Kevin's attitude. I don't think he will win but I don't want to see him go just yet.

Emotionalsupportviper · 21/10/2022 10:28

Are you like me @knittingaddict ?

A great belief on God, and in Christ, but increasingly disillusioned and occasionally disgusted with the established church (all denominations)?

knittingaddict · 21/10/2022 10:45

My situation is:

Raised by non Christian parents.
Went to children's Bible classes for a while, but don't remember going to church at all.
Loved the Narnia books and drawn to Christianity.
Became a Christian at 19 via a neighbour/vaguely friend of my own age.
Joined their huge house church.
Met my husband there. (Still happily married almost 40 years later).
Various house moves and church moves.
Gradually disillisioned with organised religion and some of the church leaders.
Stopped going to church about 14 years ago.
Faith a bit wobbly now, but can't quite call myself a non Christian.

Apologies for massive tangent.

Kevin's story was so evocative of my own parenting at the time and that of the people around us that I had to laugh.

Thank you - I was raised by non-Christian parents too, and was sent to Sunday School so that my mother could get on with the dinner.

The rest of your history could also be mine - I have been through wobbly times, but have had faith renewed. I do go to church though, and am a Reader (which is a licensed lay minister)

Also apologising for going off at a tangent.

I can relate to this too especially since lockdown

BestIsWest · 21/10/2022 17:25

I was also sent to Sunday School every week but I remember coming home early once and finding my parents had gone to bed for a ‘nap’. It was only when I had my own DC that I realised how precious that hour on a Sunday must have been.

Emotionalsupportviper · 21/10/2022 19:48

@BestIsWest - you've now got me wondering if "making the dibber" was a euphemism.

Then I thought, "No - it couldn't have been, because my mam was a virgin, despite having five children" 😁😁😁

Emotionalsupportviper · 21/10/2022 19:49

*Making the DINNER

Bastrding autocarrot! 😡

Making the dibber is obviously a euphemism (for summat)

This thread has taken a fun turn. No such luck for my parents — my mother was at church with me.
