A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, with a sprinkling of AmazonPrime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama as & when.

Shows marked with an asterisk are more uniformly loved or admired. In categorising series, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Writer/actor Simon Pegg referred to it fondly as “tonal chaos” - it’s part of kdrama’s charm. We are generally fans of all things Korean, so equally happy to talk about Korean cookery, language, film and music when the mood takes us. A few of us are learning Korean, Japanese and/or Mandarin (some more diligently than others admittedly), so we swap tips and links to language resources. Basically, anything topical goes.

Terrible news, our television has just died, 5 minutes before the end of the show I was watching 🤬 according to DH we'd had it over 12 years, so not bad going really. The good news is that now we can get a fancier one, that will make it easier read the subtitles 👏

I have now encountered my first pod-woman (no nips) naughty manhwa and it is most peculiar.

Real life is really getting in the way of kdrama at the mo. It’s making me hanker after a lockdown weekend with no expectations.

Yep, connection issues here too. I managed a stretch of about 20 mins uninterrupted towards the end (took refuge from recalcitrant child in the downstairs loo, it worked there 🤔#classy 😂) so got Fire, Idol, Forever Young and For Youth. Also hoping it will be available for a rewatch at leisure with a soju cocktail and appropriate snacks.

I have caught up with Love In Contract more because I felt I ought to than I really wanted to......what I want to happen is this:
2ML gets together with cute taekwando / body guard
2FL reunites with Judge to rekindle first love
PMY goes abroad to discover herself
....but that prob isn't going to happen 😕

Now watching Love Is For Suckers and enjoying rather more

I am also finding Love in Contract slightly underwhelming too. I think falling out of like with PMY isn’t helping. A likeable, cheery FL/ML pairing can carry an undercooked drama. Brittle PMY and monosyllabic, unsmiling Go Kyung-Po are not carrying it for me.

Honestly - watch Gaus Electronics if you want cracky romance... It's a hoot.
I'm sticking with LIC but agree that, sadly PMY is no longer working for me as a female lead. Brittle is spot on.
