So this is it gang, the final thread.

Will Paul & Therese get it on in time?
Who's off to The US?
Who moves in no 24?
Will Toadie make it down the aisle again?
Will Jane ever move out?
What will the last ever words spoken be?

And anyone going to the shows has to come back and spill the deets

My whole afternoon schedule is confused by lack of Neighbours. I'll have to do some actual work at this rate. I hope C5 realise what a disturbance they have caused.

woodhill · 01/08/2022 14:38

I know and not even the impossible quiz😢

Until the last week I hadn’t watched it (properly) in about two decades but it’s weird not seeing it on the TV listings. You just always expected it to be there.

For those who have watched it throughout I’d imagine it’s created a bit of a hole in regular viewing habits, but strangely it’s also a loss for those of us who haven’t. In the late 80s/early 90s, Neighbours was such a huge part of our culture growing up, much much more so than Corrie and EastEnders have ever been. A large reason for that was it’s from Australia, a completely different setting to our own. It stood out more. The characters were relatable (hence they became so popular), but in a different environment. I don’t remember any trading cards based on Corrie/EastEnders or songs from those shows or jackets/t-shirts with characters displayed on them. In terms of music, tv, films, sports team etc that we liked I’d say Neighbours would have been in the top five interests for most.

The Independent did a review of the finale giving it one star out of five stating there was “no plot”, but it didn’t need one. It was clearly a farewell present for the viewers (mainly from the golden era that allowed the show to last as long as it did) by bringing back so many characters we remember. It was a nostalgia fest, and the monologue at the end was beautifully done (having watched it again it is still emotional).

Also, this is nonsense. There was a plot. Completing the story arc for Therese and Paul with her finally offering acceptance over anything else.
Finishing off the arc for Toadie's search for love again with acceptance - that they have to live with their memories not move on.
Finally found a happy ending for Jane with the return of Mike and fit Sammy into the Neighbours family, with Clive accepting it wasn't going to happen and leaving . Hopefully he's taking Glenn with him.
Finally sorted Nic and Chloe.

Idiots. The Independent, not you

Agree with this.

I was also thinking that the writers offered closure to its loyal fans. And that is an amazing thing to do.

😂😂😂that is exactly how I feel

i didn’t watch H &A. Mainly because channel 5 had nightmare tenants prog on and I just switched over. If they want to keep the afternoon audience then that won’t work.

But it didn’t mean I went out and did stuff instead.

Anytimeiseeit · 01/08/2022 20:17

I hated the gap this afternoon where neighbours should have been. I didn’t really accept it had ended until today

mum2jakie · 01/08/2022 20:21

I have only been watching Neighbours again over the last few weeks (and watched it after work not live) but felt the loss today. I particularly enjoyed the Izzy/Mal/Shane storyline. Neighbours going out in style!

MiddleClassProblem · 01/08/2022 20:37

Yeah so the Aussie version was actually only 1 minute longer with a few extra shots in the video scene and ask a cast and crew shirt added to the end of the credits.

RewildingAmbridge · 01/08/2022 22:34

They're destroying the sets already 😭

This is good to know

i don’t feel so aggrieved.

Previously channel 7 destroyed sets when it was taken over by channel 10. They just built new ones!

TomBradysLeftKneecap · 02/08/2022 12:54

I finally got to watch it and thought it was a genuinely a classic piece of tv. Loved how they brought the dead characters in and tied up all the ends. Cried my eyes out and will genuinely miss that stupid show.

Have vowed to never watch Channel 5 again in protest. Although that’s pretty easy seeing as I don’t live in the UK so it’s kind of Protest Lite 😀

LIZS · 02/08/2022 12:57

Apparently not entirely yet. The Kylie and Jason segment was filmed before the script for rest of the episode was finalised, hence how disjointed it felt.

SequinsandStilettos · 02/08/2022 13:34

That still doesn't explain why she only had 5 words: home sweet home, Jane and Harold! Grin
Has her accent really changed that much? Were they really paid per word?! Wink Guy's thank you tweet was class. I read the MVP/are his shoulders heavy from carrying the finale tweets pre finale, but he really did a decent job.
Which Neighbours star should do Strictly? (not Jason or Holly, they've done it already)

SleepingStandingUp · 02/08/2022 13:36

The doc, surely

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 02/08/2022 13:40

I read an interview the Head of Drama at Channel 5 and he said ‘some of the big names’ were quite insistent that the finale shouldn’t be about them, as many of the current cast had been there far longer and deserved to be the focus. I wonder if that was Kylie and Jason.

I still thought they could have had a bit more to do, but there was a lot to cram into an hour.

SleepingStandingUp · 02/08/2022 15:11

Clearly Guy Pearce didn't think so 🤣

Also there's a difference between not hogging the lime light and barely speaking

OP posts:
WomanStanleyWoman2 · 02/08/2022 15:49

Just seen this - apparently it was Kylie who’d said she didn’t want to hog the limelight, but from a more practical point of view, they’d filmed the scenes way ahead of the rest of the episode, so it had to be easily slotted in:

metro.co.uk/2022/08/02/neighbours-boss-explains-why-kylie-and-jason-had-limited-dialogue-in-finale-17111692/?ito=facebook%7Csocial%7Cmetroukfacebook&fbclid=IwAR3A0flp6BdnTa8bMM40Obg94DoPE-YI49zmYvkysck3aTTSyCQzva4RvJU

SequinsandStilettos · 02/08/2022 16:54

That is so weird though. Surely, you'd film a few scenes with actual dialogue in then pick and choose. When they got out the car and she looks at the window, she was electively mute.

SleepingStandingUp · 02/08/2022 17:00

Yeah, it's a bit "I'm so awesome if I speak too much no one will be able to think of anything but me"

OP posts:
TomBradysLeftKneecap · 02/08/2022 21:24

They could have given Guy Pierce 1000 more scenes. That man is sex on legs, whether he’s a gorgeous drag Queen or a craggy old man!

woodhill · 02/08/2022 22:06

He was good as Scrooge
