So this is it gang, the final thread.

Will Paul & Therese get it on in time?
Who's off to The US?
Who moves in no 24?
Will Toadie make it down the aisle again?
Will Jane ever move out?
What will the last ever words spoken be?

And anyone going to the shows has to come back and spill the deets

Thank you @miserablecat, no one I've ever spoken to about it (not that there are lots!!) remembers it being on in the morning. And @LIZS , yes, you're right, it was a repeat of the afternoon one the day before. I'd forgotten that.

I thought that was Doug Willis

Ah thanks! I knew it began with a D but I couldn’t retrieve the name. I woke up in the night thinking about it 🤪

Brings back so many memories of growing up in the 80's! Did anyone else have the yellow neighbours book? I used to watch after school and at lunchtime if I was off school poorly, going for gold was on afterwards ! Joe mangle actor mark little used to live in Brighton, I remember seeing him in the car next to mine at the traffic lights and he was grinning as if to say 'yes it's joe mangle !' Was stunned to discover that the Mrs mangle actress was living in the next town to me in Sussex when she died a few years ago!

There was so much merchandise when the show was in its pomp. We had a Neighbours book though I cannot remember the exact look of it. Do remember the blue trading cards:

www.findthatcard.com.au/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=196_36_62_83

Remember in primary school seeing jackets with the Scott and Charlene heart logo in the back (same logo appears in the cover of Angry Anderson’s “Suddenly” single and pretty much everything else).

The finale was heavily focused to this era and rightly so as Neighbours was as big as anything ever seen on TV (bar Royal events, and major football tournaments). Remember them appearing on stage in front of the Queen (Henry Ramsay sticks out for some reason) at the Royal Variety Performance. They were a huge part of pop culture for a good four to five years and it’s the legacy of this period which made the show has last as long as it did (I know they have the rights but do feel the show ending on Channel 5 and not prime time BBC One doesn’t do it justice as it doesn’t come close to reflecting the impact it had here).

Gatehouse77 · 30/07/2022 09:49

Just watched the finale and thought it was excellent. Guy Pearce coming back was definitely my best bit (😍 I’d still have him!) but a very close second was Kylie/Scott.

Really enjoyed Susan’s summary and the visuals. Seeing the ‘ghosts’ was fantastic especially Sonya.

Neighbours has featured in my daily life since being a teenager, with some gaps. I worked as a nanny and we had it down to a fine art - give the children lunch, down for a nap, Neighbours, turn over for Home and Away, get the children up. Sneaky cigarette somewhere in there occasionally!

LIZS · 30/07/2022 09:49

Think we've got the boardgame somewhere!

rc22 · 29/07/2022 23:44

Me too! And strange that Guy Pearce appeared in Home and Away after Neighbours as her teacher who had an affair with her and got her pregnant!!

I don’t think that was Guy Pearce, it was Craig Mclachen who played Henry In Neighbours and then the teacher Grant Mitchell, in H and A

Definitely was guy Pearce who got rebeka elmaloglou pregnant in home and away.
craig McLaughlin was a teacher in home and away but nothing to do with rebeka E

Starburst8 · 30/07/2022 10:05

I'm re watching the finale. Even though I thought they ended it in the best possible way, I don't think I'm ready for it to end. I don't watch a lot of TV and now I'm wondering what I'm gonna watch instead 😂

I'm happy that no one moved off the street though and I know Chloe decided to sell and move, I don't feel like she was a major loss.
I'm assuming life goes on off screen, so I reckon Freya will move in with Levi and the Kennedy's.

miserablecat · 30/07/2022 10:06

I started watching in the late 80s (not from the first episode , but probably 6 months in)when I was 10 on 11....but no idea how I first discovered it?? (I have problems remembering how we found out about anything pre-internet!!) I watched until mid-late 1990s, and have come back this week to watch the final week.

It's been very nostalgic. I've been looking at the characters thinking they've barely aged....then they do the flashbacks (Mike, Jane, Scott, Charlene) to when they were fresh faced teenagers and the realisation they were only a few years older than my 16 year old DD!! And I realise we've all aged! 😂

We had the board game. I remember it being rubbish! I'm sure charity shops were probably inundated with them 20 odd years ago!

I remember the packs of blue cards, that came with bubble gum. My mum wouldn't let me have the bubblegum!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 30/07/2022 09:24

i used to watch it at lunch time at work and occasionally after 5 as well, my dm read ealry 1990s that many babies calmed to the theme tune as their mothers used to watch while pregnant, and be relaxed

Love that idea, probably some truth to it.

Our dogs definitely knew the theme tune as they would get fed at 6pm at the end of neighbours and used to jump up excited looking for food when the music started.

milesymoo · 30/07/2022 10:21

I watched it at 5.35 and sat through bring Blue Peter for it then switched to 1.30 when I was at uni.

I wasn't allowed to watch H&A while still at school though-apparently it was too 'adult'! 😆

Does anyone remember that show Craig Mclachlan was on in the 90s with spies and gadgets and things? It had the guy from eldorado in it too I think?

Rummikub · 30/07/2022 02:33

💖 This has been a fabulously lovely thread to chat on.

Did we ever figure out the ladybird move..

Ill definitely be checking in. I want news of the tour and if anyone goes to Ramsey Street so I can plan my trip too. Told my dc it’s on my bucket list.

I'm intending to go to Ramsay St when I go on my Neighbours holiday in September, even if I can't go on an official tour any more.

And I thought the guy with the beard at the wedding was Darren stark? I'm so confused!

He did play original Darren Stark at some point I think

Channel 5 could easily repeat it. Instead of giving us cash in the attic.

Im boycotting the homegrown channel 5 dramas in protest.

Yes I'm no longer going to watch C5 now

Starburst8 · 30/07/2022 11:03

Just re watched and paused it on the credits to see all the names that appeared... Sky Mangel was listed but I don't recall seeing her. - I've watched it twice! 😂

I agree with everyone else, we should boycott channel 5 but saying that if channel 5 didn't buy it in the first place it wouldn't have lasted 37years.

milesymoo · 30/07/2022 11:07

@MiddleClassProblem YES! thank you! Bugs...I used to love the theme tune. Off to YouTube now...

justasking111 · 30/07/2022 11:24

Very nostalgic. Kylie appearing was baffling though Jason seems to be overcompensating. I wonder if she had vocal problem

LIZS · 30/07/2022 11:27

What happened to all that wedding prep that took so much time and fuss, the favours for example. I had expected a quirkier do so was a bit disappointed by just the odd pig!

Helen would have had to be a real life ghost as I think she died about 20 years ago!

SleepingStandingUp · 30/07/2022 11:53

greetings from Germany. Used hotel WiFi and out late start today to catch up.

I'd kick Clive out of bed for Mike. I've watched since the early years and that generation always seemed so grown up to me but I always liked him. I'm more Flick Scully's / Toadie's age (in rl, I'm not sure how old he plays(.

Loved the ending and that they all stayed EXCEPT for the bloody Roswell's who thankfully didn't feature much.

I'm glad Jane, as a long standing cast member got a final happy ending but I would have insisted on multiple kissing shots to prove I was over Clive (yuk)

I'm also glad Sammy got some decent air time, it felt a bit tokenistic her being recruited but not having much of a story but her being Mike's kid has firmly put her in the Neighbours family

And I'm glad Mike brought the house because we all though it'd be Scott and and Charlene.

Some very good points made by the likes of @MiddleClassProblem and the like about how nice it's been on this thread too, despite the unfair bullying about my love of ladybirds 😍😂😂😂😂

We Def need updates from the LIVES, enjoy those if you managed to get tickets!!
