Yes, I've just listened to a Mans Zermerlow cover of this year's Swedish song, and oh those lyrics are heartbreaking! But that's a bit of a theme this year.

I didn't rate Italy last year pre contest (was team Ukraine with Katerina and her green feather jacket), but its grown on me.

Just listened to that - lovely version. I think an acoustic version of this song really works. Cornelia did an acoustic version with just her and the synthesiser - even on that the synth is too loud! Her voice is lovely but she is drowned out by her own music!

Glitterball See you all later, Sweden is officially dead to me Wink www.mumsnet.com/talk/_chat/4549333-what-other-song-does-the-line-of-the-chorus-remind-you-of

I think no.25 is lovely teaandtoast He is super smiley and works the crowd well.

But for music as art/performance Serbia was amazing on Thursday Crown
So what now?

She beat Montenegro to best song about Covid, by a country mile.
But that said, I still say Portugal Telemoveis was misunderstood and ahead of its time three years ago.
Aside from Estonia and Serbia, I like Romania (easy to learn and Strictly moves) and of course, Moldova - who clearly did not get the memo about sombre/low key/subdued/suicidal and just went for it Grin Grin Grin

LittleOldLadies · 14/05/2022 16:34

My favourites are Azerbaijan and Moldova - clearly for completely different reasons! But other than the UK I haven't heard the entries from the core 5 countries.

Wolverinah · 14/05/2022 16:46

Other than the scheduled loo breaks otherwise known as Germany, Iceland and Switzerland, I think the standard is really high and quite a few would be worthy winners. I do also think it’s likely that the UK will be overtaken by Sweden but I haven’t given up hope entirely. He’s going to do us proud, whatever happens. I love the vibe of the Ukrainian song and will be happy if it wins, which I expect it will.

Hope everyone enjoys their evening and doesn’t peak too early!

StColumbofNavron · 14/05/2022 16:51

I am automatically awarding 2-3 points for anyone singing in the language of the country they are representing.

PuppyMonkey · 14/05/2022 16:56

I don’t watch the semi finals but joining in for the big night. Heard the Romanian entry earlier - blimey I think that could be the tune of the summer.

Agree!
That's the whole point of Eurovisin as far as I am concerned

Do France gain points or lose points for singing in Breton?

RedToothBrush · 14/05/2022 17:29

Just watching the Sam Ryder documentary on iplayer.

He seems such a nice bloke and its fantastic to see a uk entry who loves eurovision and sees the future of eurovision in the uk as a positive thing to launch more careers.

Checking in, I love Eurovision - I have gin at the ready.

A work colleague had never heard of it and asked if it was a talent contest...hmm I described it as bonkersly brilliant, I've watched it for over 30 years love it Grin

JaneJeffer · 14/05/2022 17:33

@MNHQ haven't fixed the app so I don't think I'll be on the thread because it's impossible to read posts with huge chunks missing. Total pain in the arse.

ilovesooty · 14/05/2022 17:50

Sam apparently performed very well at the dress rehearsal and that is what the juries base their votes on.

AttilaTheFunSponge · 14/05/2022 17:56

Getting ready here, DH has printed out score sheets Grin and dd2 and I hit TKMaxx earlier for Italian-themed snacks. Fizz from my wedding anniversary earlier this week is in the fridge.

Can't wait to perv over Maneskin watch a proper Eurovision again!

PuppyMonkey · 14/05/2022 17:58

@JaneJeffer can you not just log into the site on your web browser from you phone or ipad or whatever. I do that on my iPhone and it works fine, I’ve never understood why people have the app, I used it for a while but didn’t like it (even when it was working okay!)

StColumbofNavron · 14/05/2022 18:14

OublietteBravo · 14/05/2022 17:28

Not singing in English would probably be another way of putting it, unless English is the language of the country. But, if I were to split hairs I would support Turkey (if they ever join again) singing in Turkish, Zaza, Kurdish or Russia (should the current situation stop and allow them to rejoin) Chechen, Bashkurt, Tuvan or whatever. I just don’t want them to sing in English because it loses something for me.

StColumbofNavron · 14/05/2022 18:15

In fact maybe they deserve an extra point for minority language singing. This system is getting complicated!

JaneJeffer · 14/05/2022 18:44

@PuppyMonkey I can but I find it awkward to use on my phone. I've been using the app for years and it was much easier

Ppbbww9 · 14/05/2022 18:50

Ooh, thanks for this thread, @RedToothBrush I'm looking forward to this evening.

@RedToothBrush that is a very sobering picture.

Ukraine will definitely win hopefully on all levels.

RedToothBrush · 14/05/2022 19:16

All set. Blue cocktail of doom ready to poison friends.

I may not be around too much during the acts (i think my friends aren't staying for the scoring) but I will be on my phone on and off.

I have to be social and not on my phone all night!

We have pizza (italy), cheese and crackers (france), sangria (spain) and sausage rolls (uk) to tide us over.

We've already had a curry. Early, because it was DD2's choice (end of SATs) and she's not been well.
Not very 'Eurovision' Grin but I have lots of poppadums and dips left over to mop up the vodka as the night goes on. (I pacing myself with the alcohol, so I stand a chance of seeing the endGrin

BoreOfWhabylon · 14/05/2022 19:46

<gets comfy on thread>

InFiveMins · 14/05/2022 19:46

Hi all - checking in. We are big Eurovision fans in this house. Thinking Ukraine will win, but UK will come top 5 (fingers crossed!). Thinking Spain and Italy will score highly too. Really looking forward to it Grin

MinglingFlamingo · 14/05/2022 19:53

Eurovision must start really late in some countries! 8pm is late enough and the Uk is one of the more western countries so a later time zone than others
