For the late watchers and the post final discussion

OP posts:
DrSbaitso · 25/03/2022 06:33

The only business idea I can remember in the show ever that I really thought was brilliant was the woman a few years ago who wanted to make tights in different skin colours. But she didn't win and I don't know what happened to her business.

DrSbaitso · 25/03/2022 06:34

I hope she did it and called it Skintights.

ClariceQuiff · 25/03/2022 06:36

I was disappointed by 'You're Hired'. I stopped watching 'You're Fired' in 2019 because I thought Tom Allen had made it too much him and his jokes and not enough of the candidates. I thought I'd watch the last one, though.

What happened to the hour-long extravaganza type 'You're Hired' where they went back through the series and involved all the other candidates? Last night's programme was so brief it was as if no one could be arsed with it.

I remember that. Didn't they find in the end that it would work out too expensive to have the wide range of colours that was her USP?

With advances in technology it might be more feasible now - I wonder if you could choose your exact skin-tone by computer and then have the tights made on demand, rather than having to have multiple shades in stock.

DrSbaitso · 25/03/2022 07:00

If Snag can make that range of crazy prints, surely you can make a range of colours of natural skin tones from darkest to fairest?

It seems odd that it would have been cost prohibitive. I'd have thought most companies make a range of colours, say tan, brown, black, nearly black, grey and "nude" (for white people, although I never found a good match either). Would it really have cost so much to change the shades? I guess it must have done, I just can't see why.

ClariceQuiff · 25/03/2022 07:10

If I recall correctly, I think that candidate's range of tights was at least 20 different shades and the cost required to stock them all, for a start-up business, wouldn't have been viable. The USP was that she had far more variety than any other seller, so you'd be able to find an exact match if you wanted skin-tone tights, and any compromise on the range to make it affordable would have destroyed the USP.

It was a really good idea though. I've got horrible legs so I only ever wear opaque black tights even in summer, but it must be frustrating if you want skin-tone tights and can't find anything to match your leg colour.

nettie434 · 25/03/2022 07:13

The coloured tights business plan was Bianca Miller's. She set up the company on her own. It's still going. I've not tried them though:

@thesnaleandthewhail

Perhaps Kathryn has made her pyjamas more flexible mix and match since being in the show and realising sets can cause stock problems?
I never thought of that. I read an interview in which Harpreet said they'd waited 6 months to find out who'd won so there has been time to make changes to the business.
dillite · 25/03/2022 07:19

£12 for 15 denier tights. I would need to buy a pair each hour as they would be eternally laddered

Housewife2010 · 25/03/2022 07:24

I remember many years ago when Boots No7 had a range of tights that matched their foundation shades.

DrSbaitso · 25/03/2022 07:28

They may be quite sheer (have to be, if they're supposed to be nude) but if they're good quality, they shouldn't ladder easily. I'd pay that for a good quality pair that truly matched my skin tone.

We're getting out of tights season now, but I'll buy a pair to try them out.

Maireas · 25/03/2022 07:33

Funny moment in the interview session when Kathryn was confronted with "her" pyjamas, bought from an online company!

thesnaleandthewhail · 25/03/2022 07:34

👏🏼

I never thought of that. I read an interview in which Harpreet said they'd waited 6 months to find out who'd won so there has been time to make changes to the business.

I don't see how the could have waited six months? Looking at Kathryn's instagram she went quiet between June and September so I'm guessing that's when they were filming. Six months from September is now so does that mean the final was filmed recently? Or have I misunderstood?

hockeygrass · 25/03/2022 13:40

@CatRamsey , I think they film episodes with both candidates winning and the producers decide which option to air when the time comes, ie this week.

whataboutbob · 25/03/2022 20:14

I actually felt queasy looking at those “ puddings” . The calorie count is not on the website, strangely. In a country with the highest rate of obesity in Europe this is not a good look. I doubt Harpreet goes anywhere near her creations IRL.

That seems quite cruel really.

So don't eat them. You think Harpreet is responsible for the obesity situation?
Dizzywizz · 25/03/2022 21:43

Did anyone else think that Karen looked like Stiflers mom on you’re fired?! (Jennifer Coolidge)

whataboutbob · 25/03/2022 21:58

No need to be so aggressive. I’m allowed to express an opinion. The BBC is publicly funded and is supposed to act in the public interest. I find it a bit off putting that someone who is slim and clearly aiming for big personal gain is doing this through pushing a product which is likely to injure peoples health.

Xyzzzzz · 25/03/2022 22:03

£39 for a pair of Kathryn’s pyjamas is expensive.

No that was Harpreets younger sister in the audience

DrSbaitso · 25/03/2022 22:04

What was aggressive about my post? Where did I suggest you weren't allowed to express your opinion?

If you can't stand the thought of the cakes, don't eat them. Suggesting that Harpreet is responsible for a public health crisis is silly. Slim people are allowed to work in catering.

whataboutbob · 25/03/2022 22:09

Hmm I’m not saying she is personally responsible for Britain’s obesity crisis. I’m not that deluded. I’m saying she’s being rewarded by a publicly funded broadcaster for creating a product which will contribute to it.

CassandrasCastle · 25/03/2022 23:37
Hmm
Chocomelon · 26/03/2022 07:47

I don't think there's anything wrong with AS investing in desserts and I don't think Harpreet being slim means she never eats dessert. Everything in moderation and all that.

I didn't realise they only just found out who won. That kind of makes sense from the scene where they said who won as Katherine was beaming after he announced the winner and I thought that odd but it makes sense if they just did it both ways.
