Which is the best series of Line of Duty?

If you were going to introduce Simeon's to Line of Duty which series would you show them? They don't live in UK so have never seen it and probably won't have time to watch all the series beginning at Season 1. So which to recommend?

@Longfurry

2, Keely Hawes. 1 and 3 also good. 4 poor. 5 the worst.
They should redo 5. Such a disappointing end.
riotlady · 20/03/2022 21:41

Gotta start with one, Tony is a great character and a lot of groundwork is laid for later seasons that you’d miss out on

CheshireSplat · 20/03/2022 21:48

Agree with many of the above. I quite liked 1 at the time but would never have realised it would get as good as it did. Worth watching to appreciate 2 and 3. 2 is brilliant, 3 was sad. Thought 4 was a bit ridiculous.

midsomermurderess · 21/03/2022 14:18

The first series. It all goes from there, Jacquie Laverty and all.

CornishYarg · 21/03/2022 16:22

Similar to others, I'd say series 2 was my favourite then very closely followed by series 3. Lindsay Denton is a great character and the interview scene with the senior policeman in series 2 was superb.

But start watching at series 1 because it's also really good and a lot of the storylines and characters are first introduced then.

Candlecassie · 21/03/2022 16:43

@MrsBertBibby

Thandiwe Newton. No contest.
Gosh, I thought that was one of the worst!
Pixies74 · 21/03/2022 17:34

@PuppyMonkey

2 and 3 are the best ones and would be easy enough to follow for someone who hasn’t seen 1. Don’t bother with any of them after 3, it went completely shite after that one.
Agreed. Finale of 3 is probably one of my favourite bits of TV..

Though I thought 6 was pretty good.. Until the final that is!

trailrunner85 · 21/03/2022 18:01

Start with 1, then 2 and 3. Four is by far the worst; it's watchable but totally ridiculous.

MoonOnaStick69 · 21/03/2022 18:07

Another vote for 2 then 3

Movemyshed · 21/03/2022 21:17

the interview scene with the senior policeman in series 2 was superb.

The Mike Dryden interview? It's my favourite scene out of the whole series!

EmergencyPoncho · 21/03/2022 21:21

I think 1 and then hope they manage to fit in the remainder in chronological order during future visits.

sanityisamyth · 21/03/2022 21:36

Lindsay Denton storylines, but you need to watch them from series 1 really.

SheilaFentiman · 21/03/2022 21:43

One

Dameputtingonabraveface · 21/03/2022 21:45

I was a bit late to the party and started with series 2. I then went back to series one. Honestly just start from the beginning. You can watch any series as a stand alone but why if you can start from the beginning? All have their merits and even the less well regarded series are better than the 'over a few nights' dramas ITV and Five churn out.

AnnaMagnani · 21/03/2022 21:54

Start with 1, the best are 2 and 3.

After that nobody is ever as compelling as Lindsey Denton and you start to have a feeling you are just hanging on.

Figgygal · 21/03/2022 21:57

I came in at series 3 and it was gripping
Still my favourite

fairydust11 · 21/03/2022 22:00

Series 1 - it’s always best to start at the beginning imo.

Snoozer11 · 21/03/2022 22:59

You should of course start at the beginning. You wouldn't open a book and start reading Chapter 12 so why would you do that with a TV show.

The BBC2 series were fantastic. Series 2 and 3 were incredible, though for me series 2 probably clinches it. Its only let down by a slightly rushed ending - the final episode should have been 75 or 90 minutes. Its been a steady decline since and I think all of the magic is now gone.

Lindsay Denton might be one of the best British TV characters of the century.

As an aside, I watched series 2 as it aired and loved it, so went to go back to watch series 1. It was only half way through that I remembered I had actually already seen it!

The only thing I don't like about series 1 is Gina McKee. She really grates on me for some reason.

Yes, couldn't think of his name! Absolutely amazing TV and brilliantly acted
Movemyshed · 22/03/2022 17:18

CornishYarg

Yes, Mark Bonnar is a brilliant actor and the interrogation was fantastic.

Orangelover · 22/03/2022 20:22

Without a shadow of doubt, series 2. Keeley Hawes' finest hour IMO Grin

Bellagio40 · 22/03/2022 22:04

Definitely series 1

24hoursfromtulsa · 22/03/2022 22:22

Series 3 is by far the best.

But I would always recommend starting with series 1

SuitcaseOfWhine · 28/03/2022 22:43

I made the mistake of watching 5 first, which I really enjoyed, but didn't realise that it was a different perspective to the previous 4 series and that it was a continuing storyline.

I think 1, 2, and 3 were the best. 3 was the best one for me. Daniel Mays was amazing in it and it was good how they brought some of series 2 into series 3.

I didn't mind the storyline of series 6 as it seemed a reasonable outcome, I just think the last episode was really rushed and badly edited. It was a Ted Hastings meme fest. They laid on the speeches and catchphrases very thick and it didn't flow like the others.

Series 4 didn't do much for me compared to the others, but I'd still watch it again.

HollyWilloughby41 · 28/03/2022 22:53

Season 3 is my fav
