Does anyone else watch this show?

I love it, but nobody seems to know about it! Sad

I like Kate but in a I see a lot of me in her way

@neveradullmoment99

I don't understand how people dont like Kate. I also like Toby but he has change a lot. Dont think Kate has so much.
Maybe that's part of the problem. People are supposed to change and grow. Maybe Kate hasn't changed enough. In season 1 she had no life except working for Kevin. Now she has a husband, a job, two kids - yet she still looks to her brothers (especially Kevin) as her primary relationship and for direction. There is no way Kevin and Kate would have interfered in a Beth/Randall argument the way K&R interfered in the Katoby argument. And there's no way Randall would have allowed them too. Even in Kevin's relationships as an adult, he's never put the Big 3 in the middle. Kate still does. She's too enmeshed and infantilised. She should have sent her brothers inside and told them she could handle her discussion with her husband.
Sleepyquest · 08/04/2022 22:04

I really dislike Kate. She is always feeling sorry for herself and relies far too much on her family.

SudokuMania · 09/04/2022 16:52

I don't like Kate either.
I also don't understand how Kate and Kevin are supposed to have this great close sibling relationship - Kevin was a right prick as a child and teenager.

EasterIssland · 09/04/2022 18:52

Team baby jack. So sweet and great to see him included in a big series.

Only 7 episodes left ?

PrincessNutella · 10/04/2022 04:47

Don't Kate and Toby have an adopted daughter? Did she just evaporate for the week?

I think at one point Beth went into her room and settled her.

Wasn't Kate too?

Maybe not so much as a child, but as a teen!

I was thinking about he swimming pool-good job that Randall was doing so well so that only left two kids for two adults!

Yes, Beth was looking after her which is why Toby couldn't give Jack to Beth. Although I don't really get that because Beth has 3 kids and is surely capable of looking after the baby and a toddler. I think she was trying to get her back down for a nap but whatever.
Praxoulla007 · 10/04/2022 16:04

One of the best episodes ever. Toddler Jack is gorgeous. What a lovely boy.

Can't sympathise with Kate either. I think not only Toby but also Beth feels "out of it" a lot and very uncomfortable with them all but just goes along with it to keep Randall happy.

ChuckBerrysBoots · 10/04/2022 17:00

Beth often calls them out on their Big 3 weirdness. She’s one of my favourite characters.

XelaM · 10/04/2022 22:08

Funnily enough I was always Team Toby and couldn't stand grown-up Kate, but actually in this episode I could understand why she freaked out. She did tell him to listen for the click and they even had a fight about it the night before, but he didn't take her seriously and didn't listen for the click!

I don't think that he didn't take her seriously-but was rushing trying to get back to help with the leak.

It was a "perfect storm" in a way.

Obviously fixing the leak would have put obstacles in the way for Jack so safest option was his room that he knows.

Leaving a door unlocked however was surely the bigger risk though?

MadisonAvenue · 11/04/2022 08:47

That was my thought too, at least with just the safety gate open he’d still only be within the house.

diddl · 11/04/2022 08:53

Also, going back to the leak-why hadn't Kate arranged to have it fixed now that they could afford it?

I know that she's busy with the kids-but she's actually living in the house!

Well obviously it's all a plot device but ykwim!

Aboutcoffee · 11/04/2022 12:12

Because getting a leak fixed would be mens work in this is us. The show actually confirms very much to gender stereotypes apart from the brief period of Toby as stay at home dad and of course he couldn't hack it.

Toby going ahead with the house is exactly what Jack did with Rebecca but in that case he had actually bought it. But Jack is a hero looking out for his family but Toby is a bad guy not involving his wife.

diddl · 11/04/2022 12:18

"Because getting a leak fixed would be mens work in this is us."

Grin

I'm guessing that Kevin didn't know about the repair & it still needing fixing then...

XelaM · 11/04/2022 17:45

Kate should have brought the Kevin & Randall cavalry to fix the leak Grin

I think it's the fact that she taught a toddler how to open the front door that's pretty shocking. It's a pretty stupid and dangerous thing to do for ANY toddler.

SapatSea · 11/04/2022 17:57

Last season Toby tried to fix the leak (when they just had Kate's wage coming) but he very reluctantly ended up having to call his dad in to help. As far as they both knew the leak had been mended. I'm sure Kevin would have paid for a proper job if it had been causing an issue since then. They must have left a slow leak and water had pooled but you would usually notice your ceiling getting a water stain well before it came down.

It was just the "straw that broke the camel's back" in their relationship

AboutCoffee I agree about Jack. That's why I dislike him so much. He bought the Pearson house without discussing it with Rebecca. He agreed to adopt Randall because he had said they would go home with 3 babies and he wanted to make it so. No thought about Rebecca's health, feelings of grief and loss and whether she was in the right space to make such a huge commitment or the implications for Randall of living in a white community and family. It was 1980 not 1880 as "Big Man Jack" seemed to think it was in terms of his behaviour. He was so toxic.

GastroNuisance · 11/04/2022 20:56

This has been my favourite episode of the season.

Maddison and toddler Jack are the most lovely characters.

I think the casting in this programme is amazing. Toddler Jack is superb. I love how he was chattering away with Rebecca about all his shoes. So relatable.

XelaM · 11/04/2022 21:09

@SapatSea I agree about "Saint Jack." 🙄 Some of the things he did were truly horrible (like pretending his brother was dead and refusing to acknowledge him and not visiting his mother for 13 years)

But jack didn’t buy a house 5hrs drive away
SapatSea · 12/04/2022 13:50

Xela when I start to think about St. Jack I remember more bad things - like how he punched the bloke in Rebecca's band as he got so jealous and didn't like looking after the kids when she went out to sing at a gig, so she had to give up her singing which she loved (and she was quite capable of dealing with her band mate's advances). So, so awful. Drinking when they were on the way home from hospital with the babies, so Rebecca who was still in pain had to drive, deal with having given birth to triplets, one being still born, a new baby foisted on her and now a husband who can't cope so drinks. Yeah, Jack was So great! Miguel is a king amongst men compared to Jack.

FinnRussell · 12/04/2022 18:24

Kind of agree about Jack but if had Rebecca had said no about the house, they wouldn't have moved there. I think Rebecca was the one with the power in that marriage. She lied about William, that was HUGE.

FinnRussell · 12/04/2022 18:25

And Madison drove home from the hospital too after having twins and everyone loves Kevin!
