In MAFSA they kept putting people together who lived 10 hours apart, with predictable results. It wasn't even dramatic telly, seeing 2 adults sadly realise they liked each other a lot but couldn't just move their entire lives that far
Like Sean and Susan. He was also a farmer and she was, I believe, a truck driver. They were so keen on each other but neither could give everything up to be with the other, it just seemed cruel to match them in the first place ðŸ˜
I can see this- it definitely didn't help on earlier UK seasons and took it's toll on Adam who worked on trains & London obsessed Caroline in the 2018 edition, for sure. I know people who've moved for partners, but they had a history before hand. It seemed less risky. Although I suppose part of commiting in this way is about taking risks?
However - the dire MAFSUK2019 took geography into account. The mighty power of geography gave us Jack the lad & lovely but not a Barbie Verity, who was critiqued by his spivvy dad and whom he strung along for the duration and refused sex so he could get an annulment, and defensive and still raw Steph and too-nice Jonathan- seemingly matched because they both work in the public sector, he had a house & she was "young" and they were based with x miles of each other. Was the worst season EVER!
Whereas MAFS2020 had Owen & Michelle with North or South decisions to make and they did make it work and she moved. People gave him stick for saying "I'd move" and then letting her do it, but I suspect she realised he was a convenient reason to flee psycho sister and judgy mummy. Editing wasn't kind to her sister but I suspect stuff was left out & she wanted her life to live.
In this season it could certainly scotch Matt & Dan if Take Matt isn't keen on a Norn Iron move but Dan goes back for good. Suspect they won't be able to relight that fire.
I suspect for many of them that do go wrong, geography is actually an excuse & a relief- you can walk around Birmingham safe in the knowledge that the other party has fucked off back to St Ives or Newcastle.
