I am fussy and hard to please I know.

I really struggle to find a new watch after a binge and mostly end up watching the same shows repeatedly

My favourites are:

Bones
White collar
Death in paradise
Scorpion
Charmed (original series)
Quantum leap
Suits
The good wife/good fight
Gilmore girls (have already started Mrs maisel but it doesn't quite hit the spot)
House
Ncis
Lucifer

Currently very much enjoying Prodigal Son but only 2 seasons (desperately hoping someone else takes it on) and I'm halfway through the 2nd already

Perhaps more accurate to say I like clever, witty characters?

Couldn't get into mad men

It seems an elusive wish really.

Any recommendations? The algorithms seem to work against me too

The Equalizer on Sky Witness, just started a few weeks ago. I love most in your list, I think you'll like it.

CoffeethenCrochet · 27/08/2021 00:58

A couple of others I like are madam secretary, and designated survivor, not sure which platforms they are on now. Although not sure they class as light comedy drama. More along the bones/scorpion type program.

Graphista · 27/08/2021 00:59

Also like

castle
the mentalist
monk
lie to me
life on Mars/ashes to ashes
madam secretary
murder she wrote
columbo
no offence
timeless
desperate housewives
Diagnosis murder
How to get away with murder
Jonathon creek
Moonlighting
New tricks
Parenthood
Studio 60 on the sunset strip

Brooklyn 99

Berkeys · 27/08/2021 01:00

Parks and Rec

Twofingers · 27/08/2021 01:01

Schitt’s Creek

Graphista · 27/08/2021 01:02

I'm up to date with The equalizer thanks you're right I love it. Loved the original series so wasn't sure I'd like the reboot but I've seen a few other things Queen latifah has done as an actress and loved her so gave it a go and I absolutely love it!

X post with the others I think

I recognise it's a very hard genre to pull off well

Parks and rec I tried several times as SO MANY people have said ill love it both online and irl and I just can't get into it!

Brooklyn 99 is more comedy I've seen a few episodes "by accident" and it seems a fairly slapstick/juvenile Humour which isn't really my thing

Schitts creek is on a watchlist somewhere but not tried it yet

This Way Up

BluebellsGreenbells · 27/08/2021 01:11

Professor T started recently
Deception - also new
Motherland - 3 series

Graphista · 27/08/2021 01:12

This way up I've heard of, I like aisling Bea when I've seen her appear on other shows as a comedian but wasn't sure if she'd pull of the drama/comedy balance?

One I would love to be able to watch but isn't available anywhere is Touched by an angel.

I also like sort of factual entertainment? The "for less" shows, inside the factory, social history like "back in time for..."

Struggle to know how to find this kind of show on streaming services so tips on that would be good too

BonteGracieuse · 27/08/2021 01:23

From America - Leverage
From the UK - The Hustle

MenaiMna · 27/08/2021 01:43

Some social history stuff comes through on the UKTV player "yesterday" stream

Snoopsnoggysnog · 27/08/2021 01:46

Ghosts
Why women kill
Weeds
Motherland
Lupin
Call my agent
Sex education

Graphista · 27/08/2021 03:31

Leverage was too light for me, didn't feel well written really

@MenaiMna thanks for that tip I'll check that

Ghosts is on a list somewhere, as are sex education and motherland

Weeds isn't a show that interests me for personal reasons

Lupin and call my agent the difficulty with subtitled shows is I don't "watch watch" shows, I have awful anxiety and so I have to be doing something else at the same time unless I'm having a REALLY good day and can watch "mindfully" but then it also depends how my eyes are that day as my eyesight isn't great either and I can struggle to read the subtitles. Annoying as I used to love foreign language films and tv shows

DownUdderer · 27/08/2021 03:48

Leverage.

MossRock · 27/08/2021 03:51

Numbers
Harrow

Slightly off piste but you might like Mapp & Lucia (Anna Chancellor & Miranda Richardson) I love it!

Elementary Jonny Lee Miller as Sherlock Holmes

There’s another on the tip of my tongue but I can’t quite think of it!

MossRock · 27/08/2021 03:58

Got it… Queens of Mystery on Acorn Tv - Prime etc. not very funny, funny but a good cosy mystery sort of thing with well known faces. In a similar vein we liked McDonald and Dodds on itv.

purpleme12 · 27/08/2021 08:00

@Graphista This Way Up is just brilliant.
It's only short episodes so try it

Pucarbuile · 27/08/2021 08:32

Aisling Bea is a much better actor than panel show person imo so definitely try This Way Up. And try to jump into Parks and Rec in season two, one isn't great.

milkyawayday · 27/08/2021 11:35

Good Girls on Netflix

Its Breaking Bad but with housewives

MenaiMna · 29/08/2021 15:37

Just popped back to say check out the "timeline" channel on My5 player for social history too. I just noticed it today as I was working through some documentaries on the PBS and Smithsonian channels. You might find things you've not seen before.

Cally62 · 29/08/2021 15:42

Grace and Frankie. Netflix

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 29/08/2021 15:57

The Coroner
Shakespeare and Hathaway
Both on bbc iPlayer, The Coroner is really good and it’s set in the South Hams, the scenery is beautiful. S&H is the more comedy/ crime combo, it is comfort tv.
