Yay! Just saw a trailer. Next Monday BBC1 8.30.

There's enough there that I'd be interested in watching it to compare the two.

I almost wish it wasn't as much of a remake. From what I have seen they seem to be using lots of the same ideas - inherit house, have a fall, scout leader shot by arrow etc. whereas I would almost prefer a completely different set up with American characters, maybe a different reason for near death experience- heart attack while working in a museum or something. I realise that would take more writing and different scenarios but as a viewer I would then enjoy both and I might be able to set aside my ideas that I might compare them.

They've never been really clear on how Alison is related to Heather Button

There is no exact term for how Alison and Heather are related though Alison likens it to being a step great niece. They were so distantly related that neither knew of one another's existence and never met.

Obviously the new relative has popped up to try and scam Alison out of half the house. I suppose having the same father is the easiest and most likely way for a surprise relative to pop up though. Even if there is no actual link from the father to the Buttons.

I've realised what I didn't like about the US version - it's too slick. There is a certain charming awkwardness about the U.K. one that seemed to be missing.

I had thought it was via her mum's family. Loved the dancing, think Jim and Lolly would be great fun on a night out! It did 't look like they had to try too hard.

Absolutely fab for that age - cross between horrible histories jokes and slightly adult jokes that will go over her head but make you chuckle. There was only one part that my 11ye old found slightly creepy in the 1st series with the plague girl, but very watchable. Series 2 is funnier than 1, but you have to start there.

Poor Kitty, I am sure she would have enjoyed Grease. I loved Pat helping Alison and his obvious pride in her when she managed to follow his instructions. I also liked him handing out badges.

I'm following, although I haven't commented, because I love Ghosts. We're watching one episode at a time but did cheat and watch next Monday's because we'll be away.

It's hard to choose a favourite character, they are all wonderful. I liked Mary with her fear of The Woodworm Men with their foul incense, but also love Kitty's innocence and think there is a very sad story about her death coming up. I love Robin, the intelligent cave man, lesser writers would have made him dim and fallen for the obvious gag about the scoutmaster.
