Our Girl Thread 61 "Our Girl, Soldier Soldier and The Musketeers Revisited"

We started to follow "Our Girl" back in 2014 and although there will be no further series, we do revisit from time to time. We have watched all seven series of "Soldier Soldier" to keep up our military terminology and have almost finished the first series of "The Musketeers". Of course, there is a definite connection between "Our Girl" and "The Musketeers" in the delightful form of Luke Pasqualino. We will start on series 2 very soon.

Yes I got my DVD safe sound and will hopefully be there for next week's start

eejittwo · 28/10/2021 11:33

Eek - looks like we’ll need a new thread!

Ilovelblue · 28/10/2021 22:05

I'll get one ready for next week eejit.

Magi and Rhu - do we want a discussion on The Long Call once eejit has watched it. Personally, I was rather underwhelmed by it all but happy to go with whatever you decide.

To be honest ilove I wasn't just rather underwhelmed by it I think I would say totally underwhelmed. I think I can understand BA going for the part because as far as I have read lately he felt he could relate very much to the character and most particularly the religious cult background, but having said that I don't think any acting for the part brought out the best in him. Not my cup of tea at all.

Rhubarb01 · 28/10/2021 23:30

I have to confess that I didn't bother watching the episode we missed yesterday during our watchalong, and just had the last episode on in the background this evening. The person I was most impressed by was Anita Dobbs. She was almost unrecognisable. Yes, I'm afraid it was a bit uninspiring. I loved the Devon scenery, definitely the best thing about it. The wonderful green sea that BA was swimming in, just looked wonderful, and I would have loved the house he shared with his husband and those views. I'm glad he got this opportunity, but I think it was probably a bit dull and moody for lots of viewers. Shame.

I meant Anita Dobson...nicompoop! Grin

Rhubarb01 · 28/10/2021 23:35

It's really late...nincompoop Grin Grin Blush

Yay!

Rhubarb01 · 03/11/2021 20:58

Thanks ilove.

I must say that having read The Long Call thread on here, I smiled once or twice when Captain James got mentioned by posters, especially the one asking whether a uniform makes so much difference to the appreciation of the actors...er...charms! Grin Having reflected, I can appreciate that although there are many mannerisms that both characters share (which really means they are BA's mannerisms) it was necessarily somewhat downbeat in nature, so never likely to have quite the same effect. To me, it really had the same sort of vibe as Anne Cleeves other creations, and that's not really my cup of tea!

Now we've got well into the Musketeers, I'm looking forward to this next series.

Ilovelblue · 03/11/2021 21:00

Ah yes, I too saw that about the uniform in relation to BA/CJ and it made me laugh. I have to say that had it not been for BA taking the lead in The Long Call, I probably wouldn't have watched it for more than 10 mins without reaching for the remote to switch over!

The lads are pinned down under serious fire. Athos is going to argue his case for retreat.

Rhubarb01 · 03/11/2021 21:04

Blimey - The King's Own - are we back in Soldier, Soldier territory?

Ilovelblue · 03/11/2021 21:04

This is a bit gruesome.
