No. Overdone story.

Sandra15 · 03/06/2021 13:50

In keeping with other threads on here in Relationships, was Henry a narcissistic gaslighter? I would say yes. Did he feel any guilt about Anne or Catherine Howard? I would say no as he wouldn't even have any feelings.

But wasn't he a product of the times? Imagine him on OLD!

KillingMeDeftly · 03/06/2021 14:15

@Sandra15 I've seen Claire F in person and she is definitely tiny!

user1493494961 · 03/06/2021 14:31

It was awful.

MyDcAreMarvel · 03/06/2021 14:32

Nope, not keen on historical inaccuracies.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 03/06/2021 15:09

My initial enthusiasm has waned.

I'm finished with it.

Such a shame as I love historical dramas but on a bright note it has whetted my appetite to watch one of the better versions.

I found the historical inaccuracy spoiled my enjoyment. When anyone went to the King's chamber it was just like going upstairs in an old house to a bedroom! Anne would not have bee popping in and out of the King's chamber at any old time and given that she had already had two miscarriages would have been being very careful indeed. The scene with the horse is ridiculous Re: the myth of personality change following fall from horse I think a properly written and well researched programme telling the story through Anne's eyes would be a worthwhile exercise but it won't happen because once again we are having a lazy rehash of all same old.

AlessandroVasectomi · 03/06/2021 17:39

We found it too implausible a telling of the story and gave up after about half an hour. Won’t be tuning in again

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 03/06/2021 22:24

Well I took one for the team.

At least they didn’t fiddle with the ending.

There are only so many liberties you can take it would seem.

Save yourselves. three hours of mince

Ha!

Wait until the sequel:

                         ANNE BOLEYN - THE REVENGE!!!

Just as you thought it was safe to climb back on the scaffold!!!!!
In Tudor England, No-One Can Hear You Scream!!!!!!!

The re-animated corpse of the decapitated Queen rises up from her narrow unmarked grave, re-attaches her head using decorative embroidery, and follows Henry round the castle, nagging in his ear.

PlanDeRaccordement · 03/06/2021 22:59

There are also some interesting claims of Moorish ancestry in the house of Plantagenet , through Isabella of Castile,

Fictional, fantastical claims.

Queen Isabella of Castile launched theSpanish Reconquistadora against the Moors, she wasn’t one herself!!! She led her armies side by side with her husband, King Ferdinand, of Aragon. She watched the fall of Granada, the last Moorish Caliphate in Spain in 1492, and then raised her children the palace there, the Alhambra. Their daughter, was Catherine of Aragon, who married Prince Arthur and then when he died, married Prince Henry (who went on to be King Henry VIII). Catherine was described by eyewitnesses and seen in her portraits to be BLOND and BLUE EYED.

In addition, the Spanish were Christians and the Moors Muslims, and intermarriage was prohibited by both religions.

And Queen Charlotte...also was actually white. Please don’t tell me you think the casting of Brigerton was historical?

Viviennemary · 03/06/2021 23:15

I watched it for about three minutes. It looked dire. Might give it another go.

Oh fuck don't give them ideas!!!!! I swear if someone from the show sees this and takes it seriously and makes a follow up to the monstrosity that was this show I shall come and personally chop your head off. GrinGrinGrin

PegPeople · 03/06/2021 23:24

See I'm so apoplectic with rage at the mere thought of such a thing happening I cannot even highlight properly GrinBlushGrin

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 03/06/2021 23:41

schadey you are a bit of a harris for even thinking it let alone typing it but I adore you so I’ll let you off with that Grin

I think I’d have to let peg have a swing if it came to fruition. Then I’d step in to save you. but I’ll stand on your feet as I’m doing so

I’m still vaguely bemused that they didn’t do a final speech from the block.

Woeful really.

queenofarles · 04/06/2021 00:05

Queen Isabella of Castile launched theSpanish Reconquistadora against the Moors, noo that’s Isabella of Castile Ferdinands wife, I’m talking about Isabella of Castile duchess of York , an ancestor of Isabella Of the Spanish Inquisition , two completely different people.
I did point out Plantagenet blood not House of Tudor!
And about Queen Charlotte , why do you assume that i get my facts from TV? As I’ve mentioned I love this period, have read lots of books, visited many historical 14th-15th century sights.

her ancestors were moorish,
Lots of Moors converted , some were taken as salves, you get the picture ,
It’s very common to find moorish ancestors in Portugal and Spain.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 04/06/2021 08:16

Peg and Sheldon

If anyone takes up that idea I deserve all I get!

You can both give me a kicking.

Grin

I'll hold you to that. Grin

Given how unrealistic it was and how much they embellished its not at all unrealistic to suspect your predictions would be the basis for a second series. GrinGrin

FlorrieLindley · 04/06/2021 13:55

Also, I don't think she was executed in public.

PlanDeRaccordement · 04/06/2021 14:27

@FlorrieLindley

Also, I don't think she was executed in public.
Correct. She was executed at the Tower of London which would only have let in members of the court or other Tower workers to see the execution. I think Charles I was only English royalty to be executed in public (not counting battlefield deaths).
SheldonesqueTheBstard · 04/06/2021 14:47

I always thought she did have an audience. 🤷‍♀️

PlanDeRaccordement · 04/06/2021 14:47

Sorry, but I think Isabella of Castile, Duchess of York ( not Queen Isabella of Castile), was of Jewish descent, not Moorish descent.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 04/06/2021 14:48

If only court people.

Thank you for clarification plan Smile

EvenleyWitch · 04/06/2021 14:57

Every time I saw Henry I couldn't get past seeing the actor fighting zombies on the Wall page in game of thrones. Slightly spoilt it for me Grin

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 04/06/2021 14:59

Thank goodness I’ve not seen GOT.

I know they weren’t working with much but for me, Ant and Dec would have been better cast as Hal and Cromwell.

They couldn’t have done any worse.
