I'm not any better at sewing than poetry as it happens.

Anyways, line for Patrick starts behind me.

You can tell Claire's very slim — on the picture of the 80s jacket I don't think anybody else can fasten it.

I'll follow her I think. I love the idea of her fabric rationing challenge, and I'm going green with envy at her knitting!

Cocolapew · 14/06/2021 18:59

I've just finished series 3 and think it's my favourite, everyone was so nice in it.

Masdintle · 14/06/2021 20:17

I must watch some of the earlier series. They don't seem to have bonded as a group as well this series, perhaps because they can't hug. I wondered if Damian was such a knob he spoilt the usual camaraderie. Perhaps I'm being unfair but I really didn't take to him at all. Apart from his accent. Shuts and skuts Grin

SchadenfreudePersonified · 16/06/2021 12:01

I sometimes think that Rebecca isn't as generous in spirit as most Sewing Bee competitors, either. She can seem very resentful of others' success - and there was one episode when someone (I think it was Damian) asked to borrow/use something and she virtually snapped at him, but then realised how this would look and made a joke of it. One of those micromoments where you think "Wow!".

Of course, maybe it was a joke and I'm being hypercritical, but I don't know. It seemed very revealing, like the week that Raph obviously thought he deserved to win a challenge but didn't - just a flash of an expression. It was maybe as much surprise as anything else, but it made me think a bit differently about him.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 16/06/2021 12:35

My mam caught both of those schadey

I’m still liking Serena for the win.

I wouldn’t be disappointed with anyone else though. Some of Rafe’s creations have been lovely and Rebecca has had one or two lovely things.

Can someone good with a needle and thread rustle me up a cushion for this fence I’m sitting on?

I am a wide load in case you are thinking something 6” square will do.

It probably won’t…

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 16/06/2021 12:37

I’m working and won’t be home till about 10pm. So unfair Angry

WeAreTheHeroes · 16/06/2021 12:57

Really looking forward to tonight and Serena should win imho, unless she has a complete mare in the final.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 16/06/2021 13:38

I still think Rebecca's introduction clip was bizarre.

"A trained teacher who enjoys working in her local supermarket." Hmm There's nothing wrong with working in a supermarket of course, it was the way it was presented like it was her hobby I found odd!

I hope Serena wins. (My favourite from the beginning was actually Kathryn though.)

Whitney168 · 16/06/2021 15:19

I feel like Raph will win unless he has a nightmare, they seem more inclined to his more adventurous style than towards Serena. Always hugely dependent on what the challenge is though. Rebecca has never really felt in the running to me, but things can change so much if someone has a good or a bad week, particularly on the final.

Looking forward to it!

Whitney168 · 16/06/2021 15:19

(To be clear, I think Serena probably should win, but won't ...)

SoupDragon · 16/06/2021 15:29

I think he could easily be one to throw it away with something experimental that didn't quite work.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 16/06/2021 15:59

Cathryn was the older lady, wasn't she? She was lovely - found the time constraints difficult though. I liked her - I'll bet she made some lovely clothes for her grandchildren.

I'm also hoping for a win for Serena, but as others have said, it is anyone's race when you get to this stage; a sewing machine malfunction, stress that makes you misread a pattern instruction, too much or too little "originality" - anything could jinx it for even the best sewer.

2Rebecca · 16/06/2021 16:07

Excited. My local sewing shop has a zoom meeting before at 7. Jen, Ben and Mercedes from previous Bees are coming. Serena to win for me.

Maybe she hasn't found a permanent teaching job in her area yet. Maybe there isn't much supply teaching available - there isn't in my area. Maybe she taught for a while and was put off by crazy academy management/bullying head teacher/abusive parents or any number of reasons. It did sound odd the way they put it.

This has happened before in a final, I'm thinking of Neil in series 3 and Ricardo in series 4.
Binglebong · 16/06/2021 17:00

Just saw a trailer for the final and it would appear there is a yellow jellyfish masquerading as a dress.Sad

SoupDragon · 16/06/2021 17:31

I know.

And Tamara in the second series.

SoupDragon · 16/06/2021 17:32

I've managed to avoid all the trailers as they give too much away.

viques · 16/06/2021 18:02

I feel embarrassed to say it, but I have found both Serena and Rebecca very bland this series. I am sure they are lovely people, and their sewing skills are epic, but to be honest, I find it hard to remember which is which. I don’t know if it’s because all the others have been very strong personalities this year, but sadly I haven’t taken to either of them and sort of think of them collectively as “the girls” , which I apologise for .

I will go off and tidy up the buttons for my penance.

SoupDragon · 16/06/2021 18:19

Button tidying is not penance.

viques · 16/06/2021 18:25

I know. I was hoping no one would spot that. Blush

Creeps behind a handy screen , rattling slightly.

Painting a dot in each dimple of a hundred thimbles is a penance Grin
