The two-part drama explores Northern Ireland's strict abortion law and its impact on three different families between 2013 and 2019.

Looks very good and powerful. 9pm tonight.

Just going to watch this

It says The abortion act permitted abortion in the UK
The act did not extend to Northern Ireland

I think it means Britain then not the UK!

I shed a lot of tears watching this and cruelty of it. I do wish there had been room for a storyline of someone choosing an abortion for less tragic reasons though but I had understand why they went with these real life cases.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/05/2021 13:35

I think it had to be real life cases

Heartbreaking

SouthOfFrance · 14/05/2021 14:32

Yeah I thought that Ulysses.

IHaveBrilloHair · 14/05/2021 15:05

Ullysses
I'm pondering that, and my first reaction was to agree, but thinking, I was suicidal with a 5yr old.
I'd be judged/classed as having non tragic reasons, social reasons etc, but that's not how it felt to me.
All situations are different of course, but saying they had tragic reasons, almost says they had better reasons, and I think we need to take that away.
All women deserve, help, support and acceptance, their reason is their reason.

I hope you don't take this negatively, as I said I agreed with you, until I though about the message that sends to women who will suffer as their reasons weren't good enough.

Feckauras · 14/05/2021 15:06

The facilities are still not in place for women in NI, many still have to travel to the mainland to access abortion services.

IHaveBrilloHair · 14/05/2021 15:10

This is something I very rarely say, but until that point in my life I thought suicide was something people did, I realised that for me it wasn't, it was something I was scared I'd do.

Ulysses · 14/05/2021 18:10

@IHaveBrilloHair Flowers

I think women choose have the right regardless of circumstances. The two storylines involving the older women centred around pregnancies that were very much wanted but destined to end in death and I think it would have helpful to show that there are other reasons and circumstances, in which women would want to terminate their pregnancies and rightfully so too.

IHaveBrilloHair · 14/05/2021 18:19

I do agree, like I said, but please don't think those with apparently less tragic circumstances aren't facing their own tragedy.
I've often wondered if there was somewhere I could speak of my experience, or even start an AMA on here, but Im just not sure I have the strength, particularly given the abuse I'm sure would follow.

mimirouge · 15/05/2021 19:52

@Ulysses I think the cases highlighted how extreme it is/was though. Some people might be anti abortion for choice but pro in case of foetal fatality - it's shocking that there was no room for manoeuvre

purpleme12 · 16/05/2021 14:49

So it doesn't sound like it's changed for foetal abnormalities anyway?
I would have thought they would say least add a clause in saying if you've got foetal abnormalities they you can have an abortion later?

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/05/2021 14:57

Sadly not @purpleme12
