RIP beautiful children and your amazing teacher.

Crazycakelady17 · 11/03/2021 22:03

I have recorded this so sad we must never forget 💔
Just watching the James Bulger documentary just as heartbreaking

Boredsillyathome · 11/03/2021 22:07

I remember this happening I was only 21 at the time but now with a 9 year old daughter I can really understand the full horror of what happened to those poor children and teacher, how the parents carried on with there lives and campaigning after that is amazing, strong and brave

Elderflower14 · 11/03/2021 22:10

I watched in floods of tears... I was having a driving lesson that day. Got the train home and went straight to the church to say a prayer. I was pregnant with ds2 and feeling very fragile as I had lost my ds1 at birth. The children that died were the same age as my eldest niece.
I've tried to find the entire poem that Lorraine read at the memorial service. I have looked online but haven't been able to find it. Does anyone know what it's called please?

RAOK · 11/03/2021 22:11

Maybe ask on Lorraine’s Instagram?

Ohdeariedear · 11/03/2021 22:12

It was a very good documentary, but absolutely heartbreaking. I still remember that day like it was yesterday.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 11/03/2021 22:12

Sobbed my way through that.

dunblanemum · 11/03/2021 22:13

I have name changed to a name I use at this time of year. I lost my daughter at Dunblane. It was very poignant watching that TV programme. I remember Lorraine very well. She was very involved in what was happening and genuinely lovely. I am always really surprised that people remember what happened as for me it is obviously very personal. I don't involve myself in any of the programmes any more. My life has moved on. I have a wonderful life and a wonderful family. I would hate anyone to feel sorry for me. But it is nice that people remember our children. They were such innocent souls.

Embroideredstars · 11/03/2021 22:13

Same here, remember that day I was 20, never seen or read anything since. Such beautiful children Sad

My dc are now older than 5 I just cannot imagine it, that footage of parents running to the school and standing just waiting 💔💔💔💔

Motnight · 11/03/2021 22:15

dunblanemum, I remember your posts from quite a long time ago I think. They have stuck with me. I am so sorry for your loss.

I wish you and your family all the best.

TonyGates · 11/03/2021 22:16

One of the most harrowing things I've watched in a long time. Heartbreaking. I'm not a fan of Lorraine Kelly but I thought she presented this very well with genuine emotional connection with the families.

At the time I vowed I'd never forget but the memory had dimmed. The bravery of those people in the time of extreme grief was astounding.

NotMyDayJob · 11/03/2021 22:16

I was 16 and my mum was a primary teacher, I remember it very vividly. Love to you @dunblanemum

TonyGates · 11/03/2021 22:17

Dunblanemum thank you for posting. We will never forget your children. I wish you peace and happiness. We won't forget.

SandAndFog · 11/03/2021 22:19

Dunblanemum Thanks I'm very sorry for your loss.

I always remember the anniversary of the Dunblane tragedy, every year.

Thanks. I knew a mumsnetter had lost a child that day

It's a day seared in the memory of everyone in Scotland.

The snowdrops are up
In the garden and I think of those wee souls every year

Ohdeariedear · 11/03/2021 22:21

Dunblanemum I live a few towns away and I think about them often, much more so since I had children of my own. I am very glad to hear you have a good life. My very best wishes to you.

sweetkitty · 11/03/2021 22:22

I was 21 at the time at uni in Scotland, now a mum and a teacher as well. I told my own DC about Dunblane tonight (they are teens) they were shocked obviously. Told them because of the Dunblane parents campaigning we have strict gun controls and before Dunblane schools weren’t locked. I remember in primary school anyone could just walk in.
Wee souls and their teacher

bestbefore · 11/03/2021 22:22

Such an awful event. Lovely programme, Lorraine is a wonderful reporter. I would have liked to know about those who survived - it must have been very strange for them. Poor things.

Titterofwit · 11/03/2021 22:22

The poem was
Little lost child by Eugene G Merryman Jr, but I cant find a copy online so far.

I too will never forget the horror of hearing the news reports of that day. I was in teacher training in an infant school at the time and I could really relate to the enormity of what had happened.
