My DS was the same age at the time. I have never been more glad to pick him and my DD from school. I did have a cry when they were safely tucked in bed.
It brings to mind other tragedies when you are a young mother.
Hungerford my DD was in a pushchair and the realisation that you were vulnerable.
Lockerbie on a visit to relatives in Scotland the crater in the road and helicopters above. My DD in child seat at back of car.
Warrington bomb we were in vicinity the week before.
James Bulger born a few weeks before my DS
To cap it all my DD conceived same time as Chernobyl. She is now a science teacher. I did have a miscarriage @ 15 weeks when she was about 18 months.

Thinking of all the Children, their teacher and families today. RIP.

I will always remember seeing it unfold on the tv. My DD was in Reception at school. I remember the silence as we all collected our children thankfully and thought of those who wouldn't be.

@dunblanemum xx

@dunblanemum your strength is truly admirable!

I was six at the time and can recall knowing that something had happened at a school, exactly what I don’t think I knew. What I can recall quite clearly though is that the security at school changed as a result - cameras and buzzers at the main reception, external gates locked, key codes and one way type door locks on classroom doors - I specifically remember we used to just be able to wander in and out of the building to use the bathrooms at playtime but with the new set up we had to ask the dinner ladies to let us in. Seems crazy to think that schools were just open before! Teachers at the time must have been very worried.

@dunblanemum I am always in awe of your strength. So glad to hear you have carried on and have a good and happy life. I live at the opposite end of the UK but your children are always remembered here Thanks

I was 9 at the time, and clearly remember the news coverage.
Thoughts to all those personally affected.

I remember that day so well, my DD1 was four at the time, we all just wanted to go and get our children from nursery and school (Aberdeen)

We were all stunned to think of such a thing happening in Scotland, and no-one will ever forget that day.

I lit a candle last night, and just sat quietly remembering.

@dunblanemum and @FabricandNotions

I am so sorry for your losses ThanksThanks
