I'm murder documentary mad!
What's some of your favourites?

All the ones about Ted Bundy. So interesting from a psychological perspective. Quite freaky

Purplethrow · 21/01/2021 22:58

Have you watched the trial of Jodie Arias ?

thenightsky · 21/01/2021 22:59

Yes, agree with DailyCandy The Ted Bundy one is fascinating, especially as it shows footage of him representing himself in court. His confidence knew no bounds!

Also, American Murder: The Family Next Door.

Rainbowsoup · 21/01/2021 23:01

Ted Bundy. The staircase. Making a murderer. The Jinx

DailyCandy · 21/01/2021 23:02

I watched American Murder. It was so effective how they filmed that. No voiceovers, no explanations, all first hand footage and flashes of texts. Chilling.

DailyCandy · 21/01/2021 23:04

The Ted Bundy trial was astonishing - even though convicted he clearly charmed the hell out of the judge (who said he would have been a great lawyer and that he would have liked to work with him). Warped.

There’s a recent firm about him too which is good)

Bingowin · 21/01/2021 23:06

The Nightstalker and Don’t F**k with Cats.

Both horribly disturbing. We watched them last week and I didn’t sleep very well.

Fascinating though!

DailyCandy · 21/01/2021 23:08

Don’t f**k with cats is really gripping.
The Keepers was even more disturbing- I had to stop a few episodes in. Too graphic and twisted.

shazzamumma · 22/01/2021 21:07

I totally agree with you all!
The Netflix ted bundy trials is my fav!, you get a real insight to bundy and the mind twisting person he was.
Love how American murder was filmed/made also, my other half even liked it and that says a lot as he normally doesn't like murder documentaries at all.. prefers books.

@DailyCandy which platform is the keepers on?

You should try JCS on you tube and Matt Orchard. They are Netflix worthy documentaries talking you through police interrogations and the psychological aspect of the police interviews, they are so, so good.

Matt Orchard has a really upsetting one of a dad leaving his baby in the car all day, the little details in his interview could be easily be missed unless you know what to look for and he literally points it out!

You should give them a try:

Saywhattttttttttttt · 23/01/2021 13:20

Don't fuck with cats is just so gripping and shocking, the keepers was a good watch too.

I've tried watching nightstalker but I can't get into it. Currently watching the 2nd series of I Am A Killer on Netflix which is really interesting

felineflutter · 23/01/2021 13:26

The Assassination of Gianni Versace was fascinating and incredibly well made. The lead actor was also incredible. Such a terrible shame it happened Sad

OwlLovesTea · 23/01/2021 13:32

i've heard of all of these.

Google graham o'dwyer prime time

OwlLovesTea · 23/01/2021 13:32

oh is that the one on Netflix? must watch that.
felineflutter · 23/01/2021 13:34

Yes @OwlLovesTea

Casade · 23/01/2021 13:40

Cold case files and Nancy Grace are very good ones on Amazon prime. I also enjoyed the jinx.

JovialNickname · 23/01/2021 13:49

Don't fuck with Cats is amazing. I'm picky over what I watch and can't get into much! But that one (documentary about an online killer) is totally gripping.

IthinkIm · 23/01/2021 19:06

Checking for ideas.

MrsMercedes · 23/01/2021 19:13

the trials of gabriel fernandez....chilling

FATEdestiny · 23/01/2021 19:22

Following for ideas, I've already watched most of these.

I read the award-winning Washington Post article about the dad who left his child in the car. It has stayed with me always, the most brilliantly written and investigated article ever.

www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/magazine/fatal-distraction-forgetting-a-child-in-thebackseat-of-a-car-is-a-horrifying-mistake-is-it-a-crime/2014/06/16/8ae0fe3a-f580-11e3-a3a5-42be35962a52_story.html

I've not watched the documentary about it though, so thank you PP who mentioned this. It's on my watch list

calmearth · 23/01/2021 20:58

Paradise lost 1,2 & 3 and West of Memphis are fascinating. I've watched a few good docs on the Jonestown massacre as well.

DailyCandy · 24/01/2021 11:06

Keepers is on Netflix.

I’ve resumed watching... what I do like about it is the persistence of the amateur sleuth older women who are determined to piece together the murder of their favourite nun/teacher.

Mumof31981 · 24/01/2021 19:54

I have recently watched Night Stalker, The Ripper and The Confession Killer on Netflix. The Confession Killer was really interesting and utterly bizarre the way he was treated like some sort of celebrity in the prison. Also watched American Murder too, found that really hard especially given how many social media pictures and videos were used. Usually I don't cry at documentaries that one I sobbed and I couldn't stop thinking about it for ages.

FATEdestiny · 24/01/2021 21:05

Mindhunter hasn't yet been mentioned.

Fictional series based on true cases (a bit like the way The Crown merges between fact and fiction, but in the world of serial killers and criminal psychologists)

Bingowin · 25/01/2021 00:23

@MrsMercedes started the first 5 minutes then had to turn it off 🥲. So distressing to hear of that poor boy.
