areallthenamesusedup · 01/12/2020 19:22

Recommendations if you please.....not too gory. Want something really gripping to take me over the next few weeks please.

Do like a crime/thriller type or political.

(Done Deutschland already)

Thank you!

I could do with some recommendations as well.

Noflora · 01/12/2020 19:28

Just finished and enjoyed DNA. Greyzone was excellent

Noflora · 01/12/2020 19:30

Oops, DNA not WalterPresents, but it is Danish. On BBC4

CaptainMyCaptain · 01/12/2020 19:32

I liked Same Sky but it ended suddenly with no resolution.

1stDecember · 01/12/2020 19:34

Have you done the second Deutschland?

rosegoldwatcher · 01/12/2020 19:38

I'm watching Fear By The Lake atm.

It's quite good. Suggest that you watch the other two ...By The Lake series first though. (Vanished by the Lake then Killer by the Lake.)

My favourite from the Walter Presents is Dead Beautiful (probably because I have a pash for Thiery Goddard (Gilout in Spiral.)

FAQs · 01/12/2020 19:38

The Walter Presents virus one was quite good.

rosegoldwatcher · 01/12/2020 19:43

Actually I've changed my mind - the best one is Ride Upon the Storm (danish) which is brilliant!
Not crime though - drama about a priest and his family. Amazing.

FAQs · 01/12/2020 19:47

I enjoyed the Ride upon the Storm as well. Well written with a few unexpected twists.

No, never really got into it, TBH. Couldn't put my finger on why. Ticked all the boxes.

(And, btw, do you change your name every day or is today a MASSIVE coincidence? Confused )

And been checking out reviews on the other recommendations too.

All look jolly good. Thx all.

Ha ha, yes it's exhausting changing my name 365 times a year Grin

No, I just re-signed up today and chose the date.

Not sure if it's on Walter presents but have you seen The Bridge? It's a Swedish/Danish collaboration crime series. The actress who plays the main police detective is amazing. Her character maybe has Asperger's syndrome. So the show is as much about her relationships with others as well as the crime investigations. I really enjoyed this show. There are four series.

sandalsinthebin · 01/12/2020 21:53

The Twelve is gripping. Flemish and very noir. It's about a jury in a murder trial.

Bingowin · 01/12/2020 21:55

We're watching Stockholm Requiem at the moment, pretty good. Each story is just two episodes though.

We started The Sect but couldn't get into it (it's Russian).

If you have Netflix then Borderliner and Deadwind are good..... people rate Bordertown but we didn't like it.

Agreed that Greyzone is good.

Bingowin · 01/12/2020 21:55

Follow the Money is brilliant but I've no idea what it's on these days!

TimeQuest01 · 01/12/2020 21:56

Just watched Arctic Murders. Each story is just two episodes, if you ever feel like a ‘quickie’.

areallthenamesusedup · 02/12/2020 20:44

Thank you. Keep them coming. Going to be a long long Christmas break :)

We’ve just watched “A deadly union”. Quite enjoyed it. Not too hard going but complex enough to keep you interested.

Started “Just one look” last night. So far so good.

I loved La Casa del Papel on Netflix too. Only watched the first chunk though- not sure I want to watch any more cause the first bit ended so well!

If you like Deutschland 83 & 86, then while waiting for 89 a good alternative is ‘The same sky’ which is on a similar East/West Berlin spy drama set in the 1970s

It’s slightly frustrating that there isn’t a 2nd series, and it doesn’t close off the multiple storyline threads. (Though arguably the lack of final closure reflects reality)

Palladin · 03/12/2020 07:32

The Bridge is great (the Danish/Swedish version is on BBC), and I loved Helen Dorn, a German crime drama series.

RaiderOfTheKitchenCupboard · 03/12/2020 18:35

I just finished Maman A Tort (The Other Mother), I really liked it.

Zippy3 · 04/12/2020 13:09

Just finished The Swingers. Not the right title for it, but very entertaining. About neighbours moving in and out of a cul-de-sac.

Professor T is my favourite on Walter:www.imdb.com/title/tt3823996/
In Flemish/Dutch with subtitles. Full of eccentric characters. About a University based criminologist who helps police with their murder cases.
