Is Geraldine's very dashing husband played by Richard Armitage going to be in the Christmas episodes-anyone know?
Would be good to see how they are getting on.

The only thing I’ve seen is that James Fleet (Hugo) will be in it. Everyone else who was in it has either passed away or is too ill. I don’t know about her husband.

Coriandersucks · 28/11/2020 07:00

It won’t be the same without alice

KyraGoose · 28/11/2020 07:04

Love Richard Armitage

theonlywayisup33 · 28/11/2020 14:06

Yes so many well loved characters have passed away but they cant not include her husband (I hope).

I'm sure I read it's just her and Hugo. But Alice gets a mention.
They're only 10 minute episodes.

FurrySlipperBoots · 28/11/2020 21:23

I won't be watching it. It's just too sad with half the cast dead and gone.

Toddlerteaplease · 28/11/2020 21:26

Did she get married? Its
So long ago I can't remember!

theonlywayisup33 · 28/11/2020 22:32

They're only 10 minute episodes? Oh! I guess then it will be all reminiscing and showing scenes from past episodes if it's just the two of them.

Loved this

Didn’t she marry a tall bloke ?

theonlywayisup33 · 30/11/2020 10:47

That’s all I can remember

@Coriandersucks

It won’t be the same without alice
I agree - such a lovely character, and from all accounts Emma Chambers who played her was a truly wonderful woman.

Such a shame - i's a show which seems to have lost a very disproportionate number of cast members.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 01/12/2020 20:55

Not really. Yes, several cast members have died, but Emma Chambers is only one who died relatively young. Many of the cast were 60+ when the show began over 25 years ago.

Toddlerteaplease · 01/12/2020 22:38

Doesn't seem much point in bringing it back without half the main characters.,

ChessieFL · 02/12/2020 07:41

I think it’s mainly her doing sermons via zoom so not much need for other characters in it.

BedknobsNoBroomsticks · 05/12/2020 02:35

It's not really a new vicar of Dibley series. It is 3 10 minute slots of her doing zoom sermons. They don't need anyone else but Geraldine.

Clawdy · 06/12/2020 11:38

Alice and Hugo had a baby girl they called Geraldine, didn't they? Presume she will be mentioned. And is Hugo's dad still alive?

FurrySlipperBoots · 06/12/2020 20:39

@Clawdy

They did have baby Geraldine, and then the writers thought it'd be funny to give them 20+ more kids by a later episode. I hated that. The first couple of seasons of VoD were lovely, but they ruined it by going OTT with daft gags, like the vicar's real name being 'Geraldine Julie Andrews Dick van Dyke Supercalifragilisticexpialidocius Chim-Chiminey Chim-Chiminey Chim-Chim-Cheree Granger' and having her start being violent with Alice when she was being annoying. There was never any need to make the show slapstick and ridiculous, it was just fine the way it was.

Clawdy · 06/12/2020 23:11

Oh those later episodes sound awful, for some reason I thought it all finished with baby Geraldine being born, and the Vicar finding love.I must have missed all that, glad I did!

Norugratsatall · 07/12/2020 21:34

Did anyone see the first 10 min Zoom episode this eve? I found it completely unfunny, just a bit too try hard.

Clawdy · 07/12/2020 22:12

Yes, it was disappointing. Particularly as it followed such a classic episode!

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 07/12/2020 23:46

Yes I didn’t enjoy it, the references to Owen did not work as we know he died in real life, agree with Furry it lost it’s charm when It became over the top silly.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 08/12/2020 00:24

It was just a bit... laboured. It was meant to remind of us beloved characters, but all it really did was remind us they’re not here anymore.

Having watched all the episodes again, I was reminded it got a bit overdone at the end, as other posters have said. Also, Geraldine’s comments to other characters became almost cruel in the end (even though you could see why she’d want to hit them over the head sometimes).

Untangled87 · 08/12/2020 00:59

I wasn't expecting it to be funny, so I wasn't disappointed. Geraldine is good as the 'normal' character at the centre of all the madness in Dibley, but the humour for me came from the people around her. I thought all the other characters were funnier, particularly Alice and Owen. I think the only times Geraldine made me laugh were 'It Should've Been Me' and probably the puddle scene (the first time I saw it).

So Geraldine on her own talking to the camera doesn't appeal to me at all. I'm only watching for Hugo's appearances and the tribute to Alice. It was a bit depressing though, hearing them talk about Owen and Frank as if they're still alive. And seeing Hugo without Alice. And Hugo looking so much older. Well he looks his age, to be fair, but I always think of Hugo as being about 30 during the original series, even though James Fleet was in his mid-40s.

Untangled87 · 08/12/2020 01:35

Like the vicar's real name being 'Geraldine Julie Andrews Dick van Dyke Supercalifragilisticexpialidocius Chim-Chiminey Chim-Chiminey Chim-Chim-Cheree Granger'

That really bugs me too! Every single time I watch that episode. It just doesn't fit with her character at all. But then Geraldine can literally fly at the end of that episode, so maybe I shouldn't expect too much realism.

I can kind of buy Hugo and Alice having 10 (or however many) children though. It's silly, but it's believable that they'd have lots of sex and not know how condoms work.
