Has anyone else watched this? I've just finished it, and I'm in tears. Why, why would anyone do that.

I watched it today. Really shocking stuff. It was brilliantly made. Very sad story.

hardyloveit · 30/09/2020 21:16

I'm half way through and remember following the story. Evil man

happinessischocolate · 30/09/2020 21:17

It was the end bit when he said he hears "no daddy" everyday ☹️

Yes, I watched it today. Pleased you have started a thread because I was about to.

It is an incredibly moving documentary. For me, what made it especially hard hitting was that there was no dramatisation of the crime. They used only footage from Shannon social media, phone and police cameras. You saw directly what was said.

What really mad me angry was when he lied that she had killed the children and that's why he killed her.
Even though he then admitted the truth, the fact the media commentators blamed Shannon and said she caused this, has made by blood boil

Ludo19 · 30/09/2020 21:35

I watched it today too. Horrific how he tried to blame Shanann for killing her daughter's. Evil man

Temple29 · 30/09/2020 21:37

The “daddy no” part really upset me too. Horrific. Those poor girls and their mother.

SebandAlice · 30/09/2020 21:38

Horrible. Disgusting the victim blaming online that Shanan’s parents had to read and from mostly women too.

I don’t get why he didn’t just divorce her. How could he do that to his beautiful babies and put them in a tank? How did he think he wouldn’t get caught?

He never showed remorse. He felt sorry for himself having to relive the ‘no daddy’ for the rest of his life. Not sorry for the three lives he took, not sorry for her family and his. Horrible.

happinessischocolate · 30/09/2020 21:54

It's so horrific, I assumed at first that he must have killed the girls before Shanann came home, maybe through neglect but to know that he drove for miles with them in the car, knowing what he planned to do to them just breaks my heart.

Just finished it. I've read a little about the case before, one thing they didn't mention was the entrance to those oil tanks was very small and he stuffed those babies in there so hard they were very badly injured. That always stuck out to me. There was an image in the documentary where they had a measuring tape over the top, I cant remember how many inches it was. Also he had to have killed her while she slept , anyone would have fought for their life but there wasnt a scratch on him.

rosybell · 30/09/2020 22:30

I listened to a podcast about this case a while ago, RedHanded, where they talked a bit more about his 'other' woman.
The documentary was shocking though. He came across fairly passive, not the kind of Alpha monster I thought he would be.

SebandAlice · 30/09/2020 22:40

I had forgotten about driving them alive to their deaths and yes stuffing them in. He obviously never loved them. Typical psychopath. His needs were all the mattered. His wife obviously did all the child rearing and looking after the home. He wanted to start his single life with no domestic baggage in tow.

roseyroserose · 30/09/2020 23:05

Shannon's friend really mucked it up for him by calling the police. He thought he had more time to cover his tracks but instead had the police at the door within 24 hours.

I loved the way the police managed to coax the 'confession' out of him. Pretending to be his friend etc

Adelais · 30/09/2020 23:23

I struggle to understand how anyone could do this, murder your own children for what? To be with another woman? He treated Shannan and the girls like trash to be disposed of because it suited him.

minou123 · 01/10/2020 00:27

Thanks rosybell for the information on the podcast RedHanded. I have just listened and it added more information to the documentary.

From what they say, and I tend to agree, is that he saw his family as items he owns. So he can have or dispose of them as he sees fit.
Its interesting that on the face of it there was no dv, so it seems this has come out of nowhere. But I suspect if someone really dug deep, red flags will be picked up.

fluffyugg · 01/10/2020 06:53

It was so shocking to hear him confess to his dad like that. I thought the final court scene was so sad...the two sets of parents just left heartbroken. I've been thinking about it so much since watching it, really gripping watch.

Ynwa1234 · 01/10/2020 07:31

Finished watching yesterday and I was also in tears.. Hard to believe this happened to his own children and wife..

It was 8 inches across Sad
Fredelliottisayfredelliott · 01/10/2020 10:06

8 inches, Jesus

PerfidiousAlbion · 01/10/2020 11:53

Just awful.

I’ve never seen anyone be so emotionless and cold and having the balls to participate in the televised plea for his family to come home too, whilst knowing they were dead.

Top marks to the neighbour who clearly saw that Watts was acting strangely considering the circumstances.

Apparently, most family murders occur in August due to time spent together.

pinkgin85 · 01/10/2020 12:05

DH & I watched it last night but had to turn it off when he started loading the car after killing Shanann. We didn't have the heart to know how he killed those beautiful little girls.

I just cannot comprehend how or why he did it. He didn't seem like a monster, like PP said no DV, it's just so scary to think someone could do this.

Anyat212 · 01/10/2020 13:41

I totally agree I thought the same when I watched it. I only heard about this case a few months ago when I watched a video on YouTube about it. I couldn't stop thinking about Bella saying "no daddy" at the time and it's broke me again watching the documentary. I'm so sad that Shannan's family were trolled as well. I can't imagine the pain they've been through. Her mum really got me at the end as well.

I do believe he should be sitting on death row, every act he did was so calculated and pure evil.
I don't believe she was awake when he killed Shannan either, he was a coward. Always will be.

Those beautiful baby girls and Shannan deserved the world. My heart just breaks for the three of them.

supercee · 01/10/2020 15:15

The Daily Fail was obsessed with this story at the time. Definitely should have got the death penalty. The indignity of having sex with her too just before he did it. Vile man.

I'm sure the OW was found to be googling what another mistress of a killer got in a book deal. Who does that?!

happinessischocolate · 01/10/2020 15:36

@roseyroserose
Shannon's friend really mucked it up for him by calling the police. He thought he had more time to cover his tracks but instead had the police at the door within 24 hours.

So true, I knew nothing of this case prior to watching it last night and was so confused as to who the guy was who let them in the house, because he wasn't acting like a concerned husband and father who's family had gone missing, her car and phone were at the house, so she obviously hadn't left if her own accord. Then again, when the neighbour was showing his footage of the driveway he was standing as far in front of the screen as he could and then tried to distract the officer by saying she was pregnant. He should have been asking the neighbour to double check there was definitely no more footage of the house. Even with more time though, how did he think he would get away with it, the first suspect is always the husband.

OP posts:
I8toys · 01/10/2020 16:18

It was heartbreaking. He was just so cold and emotionless and it was awful seeing those texts to her friends where he kept rejecting her. Her getting pregnant again obviously wasn't in the plan.

Seeing their wedding video he looked so different. He'd obviously lost weight, maybe got more interest from women and thought he was all that. His narcissism and cold nature was telling right from the start. I was thinking when he went into the house how would I act if I my husband and kids went missing. I'd be frantic!

hardyloveit · 01/10/2020 16:48

@supercee I googled her yesterday and it says she's gone into witness protection!
