Anyone watching??
Love this show but very strange without the prommers!

Indeed, but they are doing "Lark Ascending" which I chose for my mum's funeral, and showing lovely scenes from round the country, so that's all good.

mrsmuddlepies · 12/09/2020 21:05

Who is the female presenter, alongside Katie Derham and Richard Coles!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/09/2020 21:12

This bit is going to seem so strange without a crowd.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/09/2020 21:14

I'm watching. The Lark ascending was so beautiful. It does all feel very weird though.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/09/2020 21:15

It just feels sad.

JamieLeeCurtains · 12/09/2020 21:17

I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would.

Sometimes some of the promenaders get on my tits, I've realised. DS just said the same thing, wandering past.

BestIsWest · 12/09/2020 21:19

I sort of prefer it without the promenades if I’m honest.

BestIsWest · 12/09/2020 21:20

*promenaders

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/09/2020 21:21

This is good. But lonely.

JamieLeeCurtains · 12/09/2020 21:21

And the camerawork and direction is wonderful.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/09/2020 21:22

That is true. It is very beautiful and they've clearly worked really hard to keep it special.

JamieLeeCurtains · 12/09/2020 21:24

Oh goodness, the talent of these musicians around the isles ... Brilliant.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 12/09/2020 21:25

I'm running about half an hour behind. The Lark Ascending and the Sibelius Impromptu I could take or leave, but the Mozart and the Sondheim were stunning - I LOVE Golda.

I'm quite enjoying the lack of flag wavers, as someone inevitably pops a balloon or sits on their horn at a really inappropriate moment. I am slightly embarrassed that I keep finding myself applauding in the delay between the piece finishing and the crowd being piped in.

Pan2 · 12/09/2020 21:27

Quite good without the annoying prom crowd. Maybe just don't have them back?? Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/09/2020 21:29

I've never been to the last night but I usually go a couple of times. I miss it.

Pan2 · 12/09/2020 21:30

But the energy and power of an orchestra is awesome to witness - so maybe a few should be allowed in, so long as they don't do that daft flexing malarkey. Right now!

Bloodybridget · 12/09/2020 21:30

I'm really enjoying it, but it's so poignant too. @mrsmuddlepies Adjoa Andoh is an actor. Well, she might do other stuff too, but that's how I know of her.

JamieLeeCurtains · 12/09/2020 21:31

I do think the promenaders became a daft parody of themselves. I'd definitely ban those bloody horns if an audience is ever allowed back in.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/09/2020 21:31

I don't know why, but I'm struggling to feel like it's 'live'. I love the light show, I think that's fantastic.

They sound absolutely fantastic, especially when you think how reduced the orchestra is. Although as a woodwind player, I'm not against culling the strings a bit anyway. Grin

ineedaholidaynow · 12/09/2020 21:32

DH has just said he prefers it without the crowd

ineedaholidaynow · 12/09/2020 21:32

Does need more singers though

JamieLeeCurtains · 12/09/2020 21:33

Superb conductor also.

bbc1234 · 12/09/2020 21:36

It's interesting lots of posters are enjoying it without the promenaders. It certainly hasn't affected my enjoyment tonight. The socially distanced singers in the seating areas are great for spreading the atmosphere around the Albert Hall.

Sheknowsaboutme · 12/09/2020 21:37

Ive struggled to enjoy it. They could easily have had many more singers there. So empty.

bbc1234 · 12/09/2020 21:37

@JamieLeeCurtains

Superb conductor also.
Fantastic!
