Son studying Spanish for A levels tried to get into Money Heist but they spoke way too fast. The he tried 'entre costuras' but he thought it was boring, slow, badly acted and quite crap. Any recommendations?

Try Cable Girls...I enjoyed it but drops a bit in middle seasons but picks up again.

WillowT · 05/09/2020 20:40

Also try Channel 4 streaming...they have a lot of foreign dramas

TRIED TO get into Money Heist?! Sorry but if he couldn't get into it there's no hope for him, best show ever! If he struggled to follow he should put the Spanish subtitles on.

Littlegoth · 05/09/2020 21:01

Veronica, The Platform, La Influencia. All horror films

KatDubs261 · 05/09/2020 21:02

La Casa de las Flores is so, so funny. To me anyway.

Also the Cable Girls. I ended up sitting next to one of the main stars on the train last year Grin

narcos

4 seasons in havana

I found watching the same film over and over great for picking up language. The first few times you are paying attention to the script, getting to understand each actor's accent etc.

Each time you listen you pick up a little more. Then try without the subtitles.
Also bear in mind south american spanish sometimes easier for english natives to understand but whether this will be useful depends where you are likely to be using it (doubt they would mark you down for picking up south american accent but check with your teachers)

Mar de Plastico is a good crime drama in Spanish, on Netflicks.

Channel 4 had Profugos S1 and we loved it but I cannot figure out a way to access S2 without moving to South America. If anyone manages it please let me know. They speak fairly slowly, I picked up a lot of the dialogue and my A Level Spanish was 16 years ago.

TheSeedsOfADream · 05/09/2020 21:13

AnotherEmma is right! Grin
I tell my students to watch first with English subtitles and don't worry about understanding everything. You absorb more than you think. Don't watch Spanish with Spanish subtitles though, that makes it a reading comprehension exercise and uses a different bit of language brain.

Frenchfancy · 05/09/2020 21:18

Dd who doesn't even speak Spanish watches La casa de papel with subtitles.

BertieBotts · 05/09/2020 21:19

Put the subtitles on in Spanish. It helps follow it.

lakesidefall · 05/09/2020 22:43

Narcos
We also enjoy "nailed it Mexico" and Street food Latin America on Netflix.

margaritasbythesea · 05/09/2020 22:46

Ministerio de Tiempo was ok. I am not sure if it is still on Netflix but it is on RTVE website for free, as are lots of other good things, like Isabel. You can choose whether ti have subtitles or a transcript down the side which I like.

Foldinthecheese · 05/09/2020 22:49

I think Dark is in Spanish. It’s a brilliant series.

KatDubs261 · 05/09/2020 22:51

@Foldinthecheese Dark is in German. Excellent series though.

WiserOlder · 05/09/2020 22:55

QuentinInQuarantino · 05/09/2020 22:56

Money heist

High Seas (Alta mar)
A Spanish affair (Ochoa appellidos vascos)
Velvet
Bomb scared

QuentinInQuarantino · 05/09/2020 22:58

Oh yes and Isabel was really good but the Spanish is fifteenth century so not the best way to learn it!

WashedUpDriedOut · 05/09/2020 23:00

margaritasbythesea · 05/09/2020 23:02

God I loved Isabel when I was first learning!

hastingsmua1 · 05/09/2020 23:04

Narcos 100%!!

As someone who did something similar when I was learning Spanish too, I found Narcos easier to follow in Spanish than money heist
