I thought it was a bit strange when Emily said when she fond out she has got it that she was proud of herself like she had tricked them and they believed her.

purpleme12 · 27/08/2020 08:32

I don't know, I didn't take it like that ..

Although it certainly didn't give across that she needed the amount of care that he was telling the job centre person

JaneJeffer · 31/08/2020 21:45

The woman in jail was really lucky to get that job. I'm surprised they're allowed thumbtacks in jail!

I feel sorry for the man with BPD but he's a bit scary.

Beaniebeemer · 31/08/2020 21:46

Anyone watching this week?

ilovesooty · 31/08/2020 21:47

I'm getting pretty annoyed this week. If Justin exhibited that behaviour at Forward Leeds the situation isn't their fault - it's his.

Delighted to see Lisa getting that job though.

Can’t believe you can work at the job centre if you have a record for drugs!!

Why not? She deserves a chance to turn her life around.

Don't be so ridiculous! Everyone deserves a chance.
WitchesGlove · 01/09/2020 17:06

But one of the punishments of having a criminal record is supposed to be that it seriously affects your job prospects Hmm

Would you be happy if your child’s teacher had a record for smuggling drugs?!

Well, I’m sure they also ‘deserve a second chance’.

I've worked with people in professional settings who have criminal convictions, sometimes involving drugs. Her offence in context should not stop her from being a job coach.

And if your child's teacher had any kind of criminal conviction and had been risk assessed to be employed in a school you'd have no right to know about it.

WitchesGlove · 01/09/2020 19:25

Ilovesooty-

I completely disagree.

Job coaches work with vulnerable people, it’s completely inappropriate.

ilovesooty · 01/09/2020 19:29

I think we'll have to agree to disagree there. She seemed very remorseful and had obviously made excellent use of her offender focused work in custody. She wasn't a prolific offender either. As I said I've worked with people who had convictions and now work with vulnerable people.

I agree with you, I do Welfare to Work roles and have always had to have a DBS, the people you deal with are sometimes extremely vulnerable and completely trust you as their adviser/coach.
ilovesooty · 01/09/2020 21:00

And why would having a conviction which has been disclosed and risk assessed make someone inherently untrustworthy?

purpleme12 · 01/09/2020 22:07

I think it's quite heartwarming that they help people like Wayne in the way they do
I never knew this till I watched this programme.
I really hope it works out for him

I did a lot of work with the social justice team in my last job. They're great people who work really hard on behalf of the clients but do very much have their feet on the ground. There were some very good outcomes too.
purpleme12 · 07/09/2020 22:51

I don't understand why the asylum seeker man didn't come over here in the first place with his wife?

Potionqueen · 08/09/2020 18:54

Maybe they only had enough money to get one adult out with the children and chose the adult with the better English. Sometimes when you are living in a dangerous place you go for any plan of action that makes your children’s lives safer.
I hope he gets his wife over to England.

purpleme12 · 08/09/2020 20:35

Oh right I see. It's going to be a long road from the sound of it to get his wife to come here. I don't think £18000 is a minimum wage job is it

purpleme12 · 18/09/2020 01:08

I felt bad for Suraya when she was offered that job trial then had it taken away from her

Aw yes. She seemed so lacking in confidence and self-belief and that was a cruel blow. It shouldn't be so difficult to resume a career after taking time out to care for family, it's such a waste of talent and experience.
