Don't Tell The Bride Discussion

Netflix have just added Don't Tell The Bride.

Never watched it properly before.

I am not myself really a Hen Do person but it utterly infuriates me the way that in the majority of cases the Grooms give themselves an amazing stag and the woman a shit Hen.

How a lot of these brides go through with it I don't know.

Watching out of a sequence the worst so far is the guy who did a "Beauty And The Beast" wedding, got himself the full proper Beast outfit and didnt get her the Belle one and just got her a nasty cheap canary yellow prom dress. He then had the fucking cheek to say he deserved the money on his stag because he was giving her "the fairytale wedding" aka a bouncy castle in the woods where she also got chased by a hired angry mob completely unnecessarily.

Biggest twat of the 4/5 I have watched felt so sorry for the bride who spent most of the episode in tears.

Shock

Watch the pig one. That was dreadful. And the beer festival

AmandaHoldensLips · 10/08/2020 18:59

The one where the bride was cheating - feeding information to her groom - and the producer walked in and said the wedding was off because they had broken the rules.

Priceless.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/08/2020 19:07

I am watching Sam the manchild with the tarty AF orange bridesmaid dresses. How she has even ever had sex with this childish idiot ( who also has a clearly abusive nasty streak ) let alone accepted his proposal I do not know.

I don't think I have ever despised any total stranger as much as I despise this bellend.

The Oktoberfest one was the worst.

There was also the one who made his unfortunate bride who was scared of heights parascend into the wedding.

FaiIWorseAgain · 11/08/2020 12:41

I couldn't believe what I was watching OP - turns out I was right not to.

  1. Grooms are told that money cannot be used for wives' hen dos
  2. Grooms have no access to the money and dependent on production who basically say this, this or this whilst selecting 3 godawful dresses
  3. If things are going too well, production throw a spanner in the works by making guests/bridesmaids/dresses late etc
  4. Production narrative = editing for Bridezilla versus Foolgroom
  5. The couple do an applic together then separate interviews, they both put outlandish ideas down but first one gets picked, both told what to say or do and even walks up the aisle can be refilmed, groom gets swerved into stupid choices or only given limited options options, they both have to act their little hearts out or be aware they are being manipulated by production throughout dripping poison into ears, making things go wrong.
  6. The marriage is a sham and needs to be done in registry office l8r
  7. If they do not get 'married' on camera or try to drop out at any point once filming has started they are liable for expenses/paying whole sum back
  8. In short, whole show is fake/almost constructed. Narrative tends to be wind the bride up, set the groom up. You could only go on if a) you didn't give a toss about any of it but can pretend to for a party b) you don't care how you are going to come across because you will be edited into the most dramatic narrative

Some MNetters have taken part as guests or as the bride to be or know some who have. Although there are non-disclosure agreements some couples have disclosed to magazines what goes on behind the scenes. It isn't a fly-on-the-wall doc on decision-making but is as heavily produced as shows like big bother or constructed reality shite.

FaiIWorseAgain · 11/08/2020 12:43

big brother, oh bother

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 11/08/2020 14:44

I had started to suspect "setup" @FaiIWorseAgain some of the episodes reek of it. That list is eye opening, thanks

I also think making the bride "see what she could have had" venue and dress wise utterly heartless.

It's very entertaining but I don't know why anyone would volunteer for it, "free wedding" sure but the budget is REALLY poor and the sole purpose is televised humiliation.

It's awful TV. The worst one I remember was the groom who went to Las Vegas with a couple of mates, blew all the money and then couldn't afford to fly the bride's family out for the wedding. When she found out, the poor woman refused to get on the plane. She did go eventually but I feel that was because if the couple back out, they are liable for the costs. I felt so sad for her and even now, I wonder how that marriage got on.
If it's as heavily managed as pp says, then I wonder if those contracts are enforceable. Iirc contracts have to be deemed fair by the law. What would happen if this process ended the relationship? It wouldn't be reasonable to expect them to still get married.
Another one I hate is 4 weddings. Seems a really mean concept to send bridezillas to each other's weddings with the dole purpose of finding fault.

Skyliner001 · 11/08/2020 14:57

Amazing, thanks for the tip!

Inappropriatefemale · 11/08/2020 15:00

@AmandaHoldensLips which episode did the production team walk in on? I must watch that one as I get bored if it all works out okay!

I thought the pig one was mental, and when he said to the bride “well you wanted to look better than the bridesmaids”, as if dressing them as pigs was the only way to do that!

My fave was the Scottish one (I am Scottish so maybe I’m biased) with Jackie and John and John made her do the parachute jump, and then they had their reception at Kirkintilloch Miners club, where it was Johns local, they just seemed like the most genuine couple and it was obvious they were in love, the rest didn’t look so much in love.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 11/08/2020 15:16

@MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously

There is one in the set on Netflix where the bride pulled out but I have not watched that one yet "Sofia" I think

They only have the Channel 4 ones on Netflix not the earlier ones.

I felt so sad for her and even now, I wonder how that marriage got on.
Loving your username MrsHunt According to MN threads Vegas couple got divorced - he had been cheating on her which was the real reason why the sister refused to attend.

Violetroselily · 12/08/2020 07:58

I much prefer the older series where the weddings didn't have shit themes. Normal church or stately home weddings turned rubbish because the groom is a moron

Skyliner001 · 12/08/2020 08:07

Anyone who watches a good one please put the babes or ep number down, it would be fab to be able to go to the best ones 😳

Skyliner001 · 12/08/2020 08:08

Names not babes 🙄

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 12/08/2020 08:12

Thanks Fluffy. I think that bride is much better off without him. Hope she's found a nice man now.

Inappropriatefemale · 12/08/2020 11:24

I watched the Sofia one and what a prick the American best man was, as if Sofia should have just sucked it up that she hated her dress, the Bavarian bridesmaids ‘dresses’ and the frigging beer themed wedding!

rosegoldwatcher · 12/08/2020 12:06

The first series (was it on BBC?) was good and felt genuine to me.

Of later series I remember the one with the Barbie bride shrieking over Katie Price's spherical coach and a helicopter ride to the reception venue. In a catch up programme the groom revealed that they had split up soon after.

Does anyone remember the episode where the, very disgruntled bride wore her own boho maxi and walloped the groom's face during the vows?

Parkandride · 12/08/2020 12:12

Ohhh the miners one, there was a nose cake right!? She had such a good sense of humour.

Used to love it on BBC, didn't realise it went to channel 4 so I've just started the Netflix ones. It's got ridiculous!

They're always the same
Bride: I want an elegant wedding, I'm a perfectionist who does everything about the house including wiping my fiances arse
Groom: I love pints.

Obviously I will watch them all now though

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 12/08/2020 12:16

@Inappropriatefemale It's my favourite episode too, he makes so many stupid decisions, but the groom has such a silver tongue, I was totally buying it all, so hope they are still together, they seemed a lovley couple!

rosegoldwatcher · 12/08/2020 12:41

Ah - have just looked on Youtube; the boho bride WAS Sofia with the Oktoberfest loving groom, Craig.
She didn't wallop him though - smeared honey down his cheek instead. She was so unhappy and he looked humiliated!
Postscript said that they had decided to not make the wedding legal.

Inappropriatefemale · 12/08/2020 13:43

I find the show really quite boring now unless it all goes wrong! Too smoothly then it’s just blah
