Why hasn't the police officer twigged he's been poisoned yet?

We were saying same. Maybe it's artistic licence? Mind - he did get checked out

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 14/06/2020 22:08

Was wondering that too.

Thought it was a really good drama. Looking forward to the next couple of nights

WeMarchOn · 14/06/2020 22:09

If i remember right he was hospitalised before it was discovered it was Novachok

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 14/06/2020 22:25

Really enjoyed this, still can't believe it happened in quiet ole Salisbury!!

We were shouting at the policeman's wife to ring a Dr/999, honestly he looked terrible, poor bloke.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 14/06/2020 22:30

'remember right he was hospitalised before it was discovered it was Novachok'
Even so as a detective you'd think he'd have thought something was up, it was painful watching him sweat and faff on for ages. I know he did get checked out but he didn't seem to add the obvious context of been involved with 2 critically ill Russians.
I thought it was ok for a drama. Though the public health person is so far out of her depth, they should have brought in Chris Whitty and co from the word go.

WeMarchOn · 14/06/2020 22:32

@GetOffYourHighHorse was very surreal to watch and live it

JaneJeffer · 14/06/2020 22:42

I felt so sorry for the public health woman. Such a stressful situation to get thrown into.

Really enjoyed the first episode, and thought Anne Marie Duff was brilliant. Apparently the woman she plays is an amazing professional. My OH lived in Salisbury and worked at Porton Down about 15 years ago. Weird to see all those places we used to go (it's a very small city!)

DobbyTheHouseElk · 15/06/2020 12:00

This is brilliant. Refreshing to see something new that’s not a 1980’s rerun!

As told by the people involved so the real story. We are gripped and watched part 1&2 last night.

Lurkingforawhile · 15/06/2020 12:34

I’ve just seen the DSs wife tweet that she did change the sheets, bleach the house, and no he doesn’t put his milk in first!

JaneJeffer · 15/06/2020 13:15

Grin I was judging the milk!

I watched as I realised I actually couldn't remember much about the event (and there didn't seem anything else!)

But realised I was seeing it through the impact of the current lockdown. I wonder if they had released it last year whether we wouldn't have thought this seems a bit over the top. But every shot of a light switch being touched, the bottle top on the milk.

And yes I thought the police officer seemed a bit slow making the link but wonder whether that was because he wasn't part of the inner team and wasn't aware of just how contagious it was.

Or if he was just one of those men who thinks they go into work even when they are ill and making everyone else's life a misery!

But would have thought he would have tried to gett assurance from his boss or whoever that he wasn't a threat to his family.

But again maybe I only think that because of how we have all been educated about contagion with this lockdown.

And have seen quite a lot of online criticism about Anne Marie Duff and how her portrayal doesn't do justice to the woman who found she was expected to take the lead in this unprecedented situation. I thuoght her reaction was more that with each new revelation of what had happened, and how lethal the poison, was she going to be able to cope. Theoretical training can prepare you for this sort of reality. And she seems quite decisive about having to block of the shopping centre and remove the benches and so on, makes it clear she was able to process each new piece of information and act on it. (And get the security services to hand over all those mobile phone numbers. Scary!)

The80sweregreat · 15/06/2020 13:28

It was brilliant and the lead lady was fab.
Very realistic.

missyB1 · 15/06/2020 13:30

It’s great and I’m looking forward to part two. Finally something decent on TV!

JaneJeffer · 15/06/2020 13:32

I think Anne-Marie Duff is brilliant in it.

I love the way they use real footage.

Jumblebumblemess · 15/06/2020 13:35

We have binge watched all 3 this morning and thought it was a great drama. We live sort of local, and so it was good to see this human side of the story.

AnyFucker · 15/06/2020 13:39

What channel please

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 15/06/2020 14:16

@AnyFucker it's on bbc1 and Iplayer

AnyFucker · 15/06/2020 14:18

Thanks

TokyoSushi · 15/06/2020 14:19

I really enjoyed this too, the only thing that irritated me was that the police officer took so long to get checked out!

It's funny that when it happened, closing down a street and a restaurant seemed like a huge drastic measure, wheres in light of the last few months events, nobody would even think twice about it now, how times have changed!

GetOffYourHighHorse · 15/06/2020 14:32

A!so, did a nurse or Dr who initially examined the police officer really say fixed constricted pupils were normal when 'run down'?!

It was concerning to watch tbh, that when there's a clear and emerging public health emergency there isn't a highly trained team who swoop in.

Anne Marie duff hugging police who give her a list of contact numbers just seemed so clunky and amateurish.

I'll watch tonight to see if they get their arses in gear a bit.

WeMarchOn · 15/06/2020 15:14

My husband works literally round the corner from where they were found

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 15/06/2020 15:52

I really like the Anne Marie Duff character she has plenty of room to grow and develop as a character.

The80sweregreat · 15/06/2020 18:10

The policeman's wife didn't seem too bothered about him at first did she?
I'm sure she was in real life but she came across as a bit ' you'll be ok' when he clearly wasn't. Poetic license there I feel.

50 years to eradicate the powder! Where do they make all these nerve agents? It is frightening.
