OP posts:
BigSandyBalls2015 · 13/06/2020 10:30

I think the two guys should have won. Two sets of twins and another little one .... I wouldn’t describe it as chaotic!

MrsJamin · 14/06/2020 05:54

It bugged me that not many people are in the position to do home schooling from a financial position, and that wasn't addressed. Surely he works at some point? Also with school, you don't choose who you hang out with but in the home schooling community, if you didn't like another family, you have the free will to avoid them. Also that community is pretty homogeneous compared to a school community, and learning how different other people's lives are is part of a balanced way to grow up - just look at how little empathy Eton-educated tory mps are to know how a broad education with all sorts of walks of life creates a more well rounded person.
Was anyone else a bit 🤔 about the fact that two very rich (did you see their house?!) gay guys had five children, including two lots of twins? It screamed surrogacy to me and that made me not like them, if truth be told. Intentionally creating children without mothers is not right. I might be wrong in this instance but it seems unlikely there would be two sets of twins resulting from adoption.

ppeatfruit · 14/06/2020 09:32

mrsjamin I was thinking exactly that about the 2 guy's children, I'm not sure any adoption agency in England would have been happy about homing two sets of twins so close in age, also the singleton , in the same family.

He seemed a bit 'out of it'. i didn't like the way they used "going to bed\or his room" as a punishment , he was about 3 and obviously jealous. It's lazy parenting and sets up the child for not enjoying his bedroom or bedtime.

Another family did this before. A 3 yr. old is often unable to control his or her emotions and shouldn' t be punished for being a child.

I liked the H.E's but IMO the experiment they did wasn't right for the younger children, bicarb is not yeast and needs vinegar to become active. The making and watching the rising of the pizza dough would've been better for the younger ones.

There are some good socially aware people who are privately educated just as there are some fascists who are educated at comps. IMO personality and family are more important than education in moulding character.

Notredamn · 14/06/2020 11:06

Parenting doesn't interest me outside of bringing up my own children so I didn't watch. Such a ridiculous concept, though, there are so many variables.

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 14/06/2020 11:39

I felt sorry for the singleton in the 'twin' household, even the bloody dogs were twins Grin

Boredbumhead · 14/06/2020 11:54

Yeah how did they get 2 sets of twins and how did they think they could manage that many young kids at once? Something was off about the chaos family to me (and it wasn't chaos).

AlexaShutUp · 14/06/2020 12:27

Haven't watched the third one yet, but so far, I haven't been wowed by any of the parents! They're all so extreme!

ppeatfruit · 14/06/2020 12:41

Yes Bored I bet there were nannies or at the least ONE nanny in the background. They were rolling in money.

teablanket · 14/06/2020 14:10

I so loved the home educators until the smug "We like our children!" comment. The vast majority of parents do. All parents are capable of burning out, and that's not an issue of liking/loving your kids less than other parents like/love theirs.

The chaotic couple seemed nice. Not especially chaotic in my opinion, just what you'd expect with so many young kids. Lovely house though!

The regimented couple seemed alright, but scheduling 30 minutes of free time sounds awful to me. Blush

MrsJamin · 14/06/2020 14:36

@Boredbumhead it's amazing what difference money makes, eh? I think the producers made up the term organised chaos just so they'd get a gay couple to be on the show.

ppeatfruit · 14/06/2020 14:52

I felt very sorry for the "regimented" children being woken up at exactly 6.47 a.m., or whenever; where were the cuddles? They looked like they needed them! I liked some of the questions that the other parents asked the regimented people about giving room for their dc's personalities and free time as you say tea

Marsalimay · 18/06/2020 10:39

The thing that stood out to me was how the home Ed's child got upset when the younger girls were touching their team bridge. She didn't know how to share and I wonder if spending most of the time with your parents and siblings and getting what you want all the time is detrimental.

I feel that's a really unfair comment. I thought her frustration was very typical for a child competing in a team with even younger children. I've seen this in children across all kinds of backgrounds.

IgnoranceIsStrength · 18/06/2020 20:12

Anyone watching tonight?

Ickabog · 18/06/2020 20:14

Yes. Not a fan of the vegan parents at all.

IgnoranceIsStrength · 18/06/2020 20:22

They parent how I thought I would! Didnt happen that way though..

Tdaadfb100 · 18/06/2020 20:33

I’m getting my popcorn for this one!

IgnoranceIsStrength · 18/06/2020 20:35

The mealtime with the pushy parents was awful

Ickabog · 18/06/2020 20:37

@IgnoranceIsStrength

The mealtime with the pushy parents was awful
Agreed. There were a lot of other options they could have offered. It was almost as though they wanted to engineer the situation where they had to say no.
SkeletonSkins · 18/06/2020 20:40

I just came on to say how awful and unhealthy that lunch was. So beige. Felt really sorry for the vegan little girl.

WellGoshDarnIt · 18/06/2020 20:47

Are these two claiming to live in a field all year round? Or did I miss something? They don't exactly look like they do.
I don't actually like any of them this week - too extreme.

BitOfFun · 18/06/2020 20:52

I only caught a few minutes tonight- mainly the vegan mother trying not to cry (or perhaps just trying not to throttle the foodie parents).

The parents themselves looked more like their food philosophy was "Eat Everything" rather than "Try Everything".

Ickabog · 18/06/2020 20:53

@WellGoshDarnIt

They claim not to have a house. However, it certainly looked like they walked out of a house or building when they were introduced.

I think the living in a field is rather deceptive.

IgnoranceIsStrength · 18/06/2020 20:54

House but no electric was how I thought it was. The meal was just awful tho. Poor little girl. The mum made it worse. Basics mum is such a forest school teacher!

WellGoshDarnIt · 18/06/2020 20:56

Surely if they were living in the middle of a field in the depths of winter with two small kids social services would have something to say? I agree that it's all a bit deceptive.

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 18/06/2020 23:29

It was almost as though they wanted to engineer the situation where they had to say no.
Yes that was painful to watch, poor little girl. If you know one of your guests is a vegan you don't put a load of meat/cheese in front of her and say "no you can't eat that can you?". Horrible.
The pushy parent also had the cheek to say the girls were not confident when they arrived, erm they were until you told them off, stood over them and made them tidy up 🤣

I liked the Vegan parents best. I did like the field parents until I found out they actually lived, well, in a field 😂
