Anyone else watching this?

Funny how, despite the children being nothing but bones the carers are all well (over) fed. This is horrendous, I never thought I would see worse than the Romanian Orphanages.

And the "Director" says what the orphanage needs most is a computer! Obviously for her own use and stuff the poor kids!

I think i can now sleep a little bit better, although it sounds like little STOYAN is still in hospital, but if he is at least he must be getting some cuddles from the nurses surley. Its gonna be a long long recovery programe for them, but if any children can recover im sure these can, they have hung on to nothing for so many years that a bit of intrest in them must surley spure them on more....nice to no VASKY will probley be going out side now to hear the birds singing that she likes so much.. UNICEF are staying there in the home, so when C.O.R.F. chairty take the CHRISTMAS SHOEBOX appeal to Mogilino at least the children will be able to keep the presents.....i know corf are taking them because i have been talking to them, and i sent shoeboxes from my childrens school, they send them over to bulgarias childrens homes every year..he said there taking them to Mogilino this year aswell, so thats great.....Tammy xxx

What charity was that doing the shoeboxes Taz? I'll be too late this year but there is always next, I did a box last year when ex-dh's work was doing them. I loved thinking of things to put in.

How much do I wish to bring Stoyan home! My friend's ds has disabilities and if he was in a place like that I dread to think what he would be like. it broke my heart to see him stand still like a statue when left alone.

Ow i know what you mean STOYAN is adorable i so want to adopt him, but hubby says no, he can be so heartless....hear is the link to the charity c.o.r.f www.corf.co.uk/ when i phoned them up in september after the first airing of this, corf said they had been unindated with people wanting to do shoeboxes for bulgaria, how good is that. Would love to see the childrens faces when they get the boxes with gifts in them, wish i was there now...giving out cuddles and loves xxx

I went to the Mandatory Selection Day of teh OT course that I want to do...and they are now slotting in a 3-4 week block for some Voluntary work, not necessarily OT related, so, who knows, if I do get onto the course, I may well see if I could go out there...

*An update on the children

Activities Towards Closure of the Institution in Mogilino and the Provision of Better Care for the Children and Young People Continue
January 14, 2008

Sofia, 14 January 2008 ? Work on the operational plan for closure of Mogilino institution, prepared by the Agency for Social Assistance (ASA) and implemented in partnership with UNICEF and Alliance of NGOs (?For Our Children? Foundation, Social Activities and Practices Institute, Bulgarian Association for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities, International Social Service, KARITAS-Bulgaria) continues. The plan aims at providing additional care for the children from the institution, preparing individual assessment of the needs of every child and securing suitable solution for each of them.

More than 2 and a half months, a team of specialists in the field of social services, as well as medical experts, have been working in the institution in Mogilino. They have been providing urgent care and stimulation for the children and youths. Assessment of the health conditions of every child has been made. Four children and one of the persons over 18 were hospitalized for venous transfusion, therapy and setting a current diagnosis. Hospitalization of the other children and young people in need of therapy and/or surgical intervention has been planned. Three rehabilitators began their work with the children and youths in the institution. First 15 individual assessments have been prepared. Diet has been changed into 4 to 5 nutrition per day, as well as taking special food supplements for relieving the consequences of the insufficient nutrition and strengthening children?s organisms. They are responding to the new diet, showing higher vitality and gaining weight.

THIS IS SUCH GREAT NEWS, THINGS ARE NOW MOVING ALONG,
LOVE TAZ

Fabulous!

I know this an old thread but I just found this.

I watched this program ages ago and it was really sad, it upset me for days. I would love to be able to do something about it!

I honestly don't know how the people who run these places can live with themselves. And the woman who runs the place saying they needed a computer rather than stuff for the children...

When my LO woke up that night I just sat and hugged him for about 30 minutes!

Now I have to wonder what some of the kids are doing and did they ever get let outside? The worst thing was the bastard man who was beating up the two boys and they couldn't speak or stick up for themselves!

mamadiva · 10/09/2008 16:20

Oops have just read properly! That is fab news there has been some progress for the kids!

Any news on how to send things this year for the kids if you can still do that?

I would love to send clothes and things to them too if they'd take them.
