Greys Anatomy- Dr Alex Karev - spoilers aplenty

So final episode of series 16(?) is being aired for those with the time and dedication to find it. But Alex Karev is gone ! Not even a double car crash brain injury a la McDreamy.

I know Justin left suddenly IRL but thought that was a pathetic storyline. Totally unrealistic that he'd leave Jo and run back to Izzy. I did enjoy the flashbacks though.

I loved Karev, he'll be a big loss. They badly need some new and strong characters. I've watched since season one and find I'm not in a huge hurry to watch the newly released episodes anymore.

Maybe he pissed Shonda off? Doesn’t she have a habit of giving certain endings to those who have annoyed her.

Shonda hasn't been involved since season 13 is a person called Krista Vernoff who deals with the storyline ideas now. Season 16 is one of the better ones then the last few seasons. Losing McDreamy gave it a different dynamic I didn't know how I would like.

It does seem quite an abrupt change in direction- especially the Pacific North West hospital- Kathryn buys it - re hires all the old staff - and never mentions it again? What about the rest of the staff ? And the burial ground?
He wouldn't have left Jo - the bit in the letter about the twins getting into 'their' bed on a morning annoyed me - think it was to Meredith not Jo.
There was no reason to not come back, and visit or take Jo to meet them.
I would have much preferred it if he had been killed in a dramatic awesome plane crash but I guess everything has been done already.

Sooo why did the actor leave so quickly?

Does anyone think Jo and Link will get together at some point?

Justin Chambers said now he was 50 he wanted to broaden his acting. Don't know why he didn't wait until the end of the season or at least give a proper goodbye episode.

Yeah, I thought they were steering storyline towards Jo and Link getting together too

Didn't the actor who plays Alex need some time out for his mental health? So weird though that they've totally written him out and that none of the cast really mentioned it very much, when April and Arizona got fired most the cast wrote about it on social media.
I think jo will definitely end up with link the way she looked at him in that episode was a lot different to how they've interacted before, I think Own will end up with Amelia and and Teddy with Tom.
It is ridiculous that fans are being kept waiting so long for this series....... no wonder so many people are searching online for it.

In fairness I think it was so sudden when he left that I think they didn't want to kill him off in case he wanted to come back at a later date. This does give it a possibility but he would never have left Jo like that, a letter !!

I think he should have gone on a night out and just disappeared. Nothing more and her looking and mourning him and at least that would have left the door open.
All the new characters are rubbish, and only the rubbish old ones are left like Owen, Jo, Jackson are left. There is literally no one likable in it now or even interesting. Its all about being super inclusive problem is they are either super annoying or boring.

Do you think the whole Amelias baby saga was in response to this ? So that Link could move into to Jo? And Owen and Teddy would split up ?

How's Owen and Teddy getting on? That's been the only highlight of recent seasons.

Baileys husband annoys the fuck out of me with his constant career changing.

Meredith and DeLuca? Not buying it. Riggs was much better. Bringing Owen's sister back was the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen on Greys, second only to Webber and Ellis and having a love child. As if Ellis wouldn't have fucking blurted it out when she had Alzheimers.

Karev should have left to do some form of Paeds Doctors without Borders if the writers needed a quick exit.

I’m now convinced Amelias baby will be born with a full head of red hair and there will be no doubt it’s Owen’s even if she won’t get the DNA test. Teddy and Owen are surely over now after she went running back to Tom (who is probably my new favourite character just because he’s the least annoying right now). Jo and Link were definitely giving each other the eye. Quite why the writers had to resort to Izzy to bring about a 3 way bed swap I don’t know... probably because Jo will be moving on quickly and that wouldn’t work if Alex had died in dramatic McDreamy fashion.

If Alex had died/gone missing/working away they wouldn't have been able to have Jo move on to Link. This way she'll feel no guilt about moving on quickly.
I love Tom I feel like we need a few more characters like him, quite like the Irish dr so far too much better suited to Meredith than Deluca I didn't buy that at all.
