Anyone watching?

OP posts:

I love Hunted. Lots of it is obviously contrived though - eg the CCTV catches when they don't really have access to it.

FrostyBamboo · 20/02/2020 17:50

Back on tonight! Rooting for Merv the Swerve...

user5656 · 20/02/2020 22:18

Oh dear, Merv didn't last long.

lardass88 · 21/02/2020 10:30

My god. This programme is so infuriating!!! I don't know why I watch it 😆

user5656 · 21/02/2020 10:43

Why do people just hand over their phones and handbags?

lardass88 · 21/02/2020 10:48

Why don't they destroy ANYTHING that could incriminate them? And why do the hunted use bloody phones and NEVER turn their location off ?!

BrieAndChilli · 21/02/2020 11:02

I think there’s a lot of ‘hidden’ rules that they don’t make public things like having to contact family, having to leave clues behind, having to move so many miles a day, and I think a lot of it is contrived and that the hunters are given very good tips by the producers of where to look etc.

I always think mumsnet would make a good hunted team. We are all so unconnected I’m real life.
So the hunted could go to an Internet cafe or somewhere, set up a new mumsnet account and then use that to liaise with mumsnet tees for help on the run!!

profpoopsnagle · 21/02/2020 14:18

Yes- there are many rules for the fugitives to follow. I wish the programme would state these and make it transparent- it could then be marketed as a 'game' that it is, rather than a real life fugitive scenario.

Sad for Merv, he was my fav.

covetingthepreciousthings · 21/02/2020 18:11

Yes I would bet it's exactly like this, DH knew a contestant on ' Bear Grylls The Island' and that was EXACTLY like that, Infact they actually caught a fish on the first day within hours and got told to put it back as they weren't allowed to catch one that quickly Confused

Gogolego · 21/02/2020 20:52

If I was going on this show as soon as I found out I'd delete or social media, cloud accounts the works. I would tell any of my nearest and dearest my plans. Tell them some bullshit about back packing round Asia or something.

FrostyBamboo · 21/02/2020 20:57

That's a shame. The hidden rules take all the fun out of it.

I like the Mumsnetwork idea.

Tvtvtv · 21/02/2020 21:01

@covetingthepreciousthings

Reddit a few years ago was an AMA but it’s long been deleted now. Rules that they had to move very few days, contact a loved one but also how heavily fixed it is. Basically you can’t hid in plain sight of CCTV as if the producers clock that you’re in somewhere with a tv they’ll tell the hunters and the CCTV footage is out in at a later date.

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 21/02/2020 21:10

I love Hunted, it's a great show to watch with teenage DS...we always root for the likes of Merv (poor Merv).

I also have to admit to having a bit of a thing for the lead hunter Ben (those eyes !)

EggysMom · 21/02/2020 22:14

So last week, we had the unexplained journey to WIgan.

This week, we have the unexplained journey to the Scottish Borders. - the last we saw of Toni, she was asking a bus driver if she could blag a ride to Manchester. Next thing she's in Scotland. How???

Gogolego · 21/02/2020 22:17

I want to know the logistics of the various cameramen where do they stay? When the fugitives hitchhikes where does the cameraman go? Why can't they use them to help them out? Do they have to walk across the penines camp out too?

Papergirl1968 · 21/02/2020 22:21

I think the camera crew are with them when they hitchhike as they often show footage from inside a vehicle.
But I do think a camera crew must make them very conspicuous. Melvyn wandering around outside Bristol station, for example, and Toni hiding behind that guy’s bins waiting for him to return home. Yep she was out of sight if the hunters had driven by but they’d surely have noticed the camera crew!
Good point about where the crew sleeps.

Tvtvtv · 21/02/2020 22:23

@Gogolego I thought the same thing. What happens if a fugitive borrows a bike from somewhere? Do they have to wait around until a producer drops off a bike or do they have to preplan?

Does the same camera operator stay with them for the whole duration or do they do shifts?

Also why are the Volvos always ten minutes away from the fugitives?

SkaLaLand · 21/02/2020 22:41

My theory is that the camera man with each fugitive is tracked by the production team.

The production team then filter information at various points to the hunters.

In short, it's all pretty much fake and fixed.

SkaLaLand · 21/02/2020 22:43

It would also not suprise me if vans follow with the camera men or fairly nearby with shit like spare bikes and camping stuff for the crew.

Gogolego · 21/02/2020 23:07

So suddenly we've gone from 2 people on the run, to a cameraman, sound man and boom operator, a back up support vehicle with a team of a bike mechanic, driver and some guy giving the producers a heads up of where they are and stuff.

SkaLaLand · 22/02/2020 07:44

@Gogolegoit's a TV programme. It wouldn't surprise me if they made them redo shit like capture scenarios if the angle was wrong or something.

EggysMom · 22/02/2020 08:13

There was one point in this week's show where we viewed the fugitive's transfer car from behind, as though filmed by a following car. That made me realise that not only do they have a camera-person with them at all times (some of the footage is from the passenger seat of a transfer car) but there is also a following car or van with all the rest of the equipment and presumably a relief camera-person for alternate shifts. So as others have said, these fugitives aren't exactly hiding successfully because they are never on their own.

Our theory (or I might have read it elsewhere, apologies if stolen) is that the camera-crew tell the hunters key pieces of information, such as if the fugitive is in an area with good CCTV or is buying a travel ticket in a public place. The hunters 'fake' seeing the fugitive on CCTV and send in a capture team; then they obtain the CCTV footage later on to splice into the show.

Ellmau · 22/02/2020 09:41

I definitely think the fugtitives' camerapeople send the 'CCTV' bits to the hunters.

ChippyMinton · 22/02/2020 10:00

The producers cannot access real CCTV footage, as it is governed by data protection laws. The footage must be faked by the camera crew when in an area with coverage.

A friend picked up a a couple in series 1 and they had a camera man with them. All squashed into a mini.

lardass88 · 22/02/2020 10:28

Why do they need a camera crew with them? Can't the hunted just film themselves ? It's so daft
