Most good. Wasn’t sure if the magician one

Slightly confusing

MissBarbary · 02/03/2020 22:38

Tonight's was definitely back on form. Scary and moving.

MissBarbary · 02/03/2020 22:41

I'll have to rewatch the magician episode. I think I missed a lot.

AutumnRose1 · 02/03/2020 23:09

Miss when was it off form?

I found singing lady too high pitched for my ears!

waterlego · 02/03/2020 23:18

Tonight’s episode was superb! Maxine Peake is a tremendous actress and a great choice for that role.

MissBarbary · 02/03/2020 23:30

Misswhen was it off form?

It hasn't been really- just that tonight's episode was so strong.

delilabell · 03/03/2020 08:01

Amazing episode. I think it'd the little bits inbetween. Eg the pinboard with the names on. So you KNOW there's something going on but not what it is!

Igottastartthinkingbee · 03/03/2020 11:09

I really need to watch that again....pretty sure I think that after every episode. So clever. And the influencer character was absolutely unbelievably well observed/executed. Amazing stuff!

Carrieonhappy · 03/03/2020 15:23

Just caught up on last nights episode that was a brilliant episode so clever and well written like them all. It took a wee minute for the penny to drop. I love when they reel us in then pull the rug at the last minute. What did you all think of last nights episode

Packingsoapandwater · 03/03/2020 23:46

Got to be honest, I wasn't a fan of the last episode. I suspect it's because I have a bit of an issue with the dramatisation of disturbed Ed Gein-type serial killers and think using disassociative personality disorder as a trope is distasteful. It's a very controversial diagnosis and created a bit of a storm back in the day, the initial "case" was later discovered to be a hoax, as far as I can remember.

I also thought using the visually impaired actress as a "symbol" for an aspect of psychological distress was a bit off.

CaptainMyCaptain · 03/03/2020 23:49

I didn't notice a visually impaired actor but I was knitting at the time. I realised early on what was happening, though, because of the anagram names. I didn't enjoy this as much as previous ones.

dogsdinnerlady · 04/03/2020 08:21

Was the gospel singer visually impaired? Should it even be important? She was a singer so the sight issue was irrelevant I think.

Raahh · 04/03/2020 08:25

The lack of sight was relevant because her father told her to forget what she had seen as a child, (I think) so she sang to herself to pretend she didn't hear what was going on- at least that was my take on it.

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 04/03/2020 08:27

I wasn't enormously keen on what I thought was a stigmatisation of a mental health issue, and I thought the Galen character was a bit of a misfire. I appreciate that it must be difficult to keep the format fresh, and I would still rather see attempts at originality that don't quite work for me, than the same old thing over and over again. I know that Steve and Reece don't like Black Mirror comparisons but that point is why I think Inside No 9 is ultimately the better of the two. Perhaps I need to watch it again and pay more attention to the anagrams erc.

Igottastartthinkingbee · 04/03/2020 10:47

Steve Pemberton has tweeted a response regarding the use of violence in a dissociative personality disorder storyline.

‘Good question - yes we did the research and much of what we wrote is factually correct, but I was worried about the thing ending with violence which is a cliche of DID - so apologies if that offended anyone. It's because it's a No9.’

dogsdinnerlady · 04/03/2020 11:32

Raahh...good point.

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/03/2020 18:08

Bit confusing but ok

Think the first series are better - more original

Saucery · 06/03/2020 20:46

One of those episodes where I thought they’d gone off track but then whoomph it all turns and you realise that no, they have stayed exactly where they wanted to be.
Galen was clashingly cartoony, but then he would be, because he was her interpretation of violent vengeance. And the vlogger was trivial and irritatingly upbeat and sunny because that’s what she tried to be. And the dying father, in a Jamesian study promising protection beyond the grave....
Just superb.

Saucery · 06/03/2020 20:47

Owed a huge amount to the film Identity though!

Clawdy · 06/03/2020 22:45

Thought it was so clever, and so well-acted.

jopjop · 06/03/2020 23:05

It really reminded me of a crap Sidney sheldon book I read when I was a teenager.

AutumnRose1 · 06/03/2020 23:26

Oh I love a crap Sidney Sheldon, or did as a teen...do you remember which it was by any chance?

jopjop · 07/03/2020 08:20

It's called "tell me your dreams" @AutumnRose1

AutumnRose1 · 07/03/2020 10:39

thanks Jop!

fastliving · 08/03/2020 10:10

Last one was too dark for me.
Also agree about the killing of the wife in the Magician episode. Magician didn't give a shit about his wife, so her dying meant nothing to him, only that he would go down for murder - wish they had thought of a different re-solution to this.
