Just finished it and I’m curious to see what people thought - with SPOILERS allowed so don’t read on if you haven’t seen it or haven’t finished it!

OP posts:
The80sweregreat · 09/02/2020 18:23

I loved how they asked Adam ' did you ever park the car here to use the airport ?'
A remote country lane : if they had of done it would have been spotted and towed away by the time they got back from their trip!
Who would do that? It Seemed a strange question to ask.

BarkandCheese · 09/02/2020 18:32

Can you imagine traipsing across the fields with your cases to save having to pay airport parking charges? 😂

The80sweregreat · 09/02/2020 18:41

'Put your wellies on kids, we're off to Spain! '
I suppose she was asking how Corinne would know where the lane was etc but it was a strange way of putting it. The lady policewoman was good though I thought , very natural acting as was Jennifer Saunders.

TheClitterati · 09/02/2020 23:15

Watched it over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Only thing that bugged me was Adam never went to work at all (apart from potless Rea) & he's partner in a, supposedly successful, going by the house/car/lifestyle, law firm.

iismum · 09/02/2020 23:29

The alpaca story was really silly. So he kidnapped an alpaca, led it through the centre of Stockport and then decapitated it (how? It must be fucking hard to decaptiate an alpaca) in a Main Street and carried it’s bloody head back to some suburb and not a single person seeing him? And that girl just picked up some PCP at a small impromptu silent disco?! PCP is hardcore stuff and not for sale at random raves! And she never told the police what happened with Dante. It was all so weird and pointless.

stargazer2030 · 10/02/2020 00:17

Just finished it now and really enjoyed it. Huge plot holes and the ending didn’t Make any sense but enjoyable tosh. Love Siobhan Finnerman.

The80sweregreat · 10/02/2020 09:15

The alpaca thing was awful. Surely cctv would have shown him killing the poor thing in the middle of a town. Surely this must be a caution or something or at least pay the woman who owned it some kind of compensation ?
Daisy taking off with Dante's clothes then leaving him to freeze was also horrible and not really explained as to why she did this to him unless I missed something there. She could have seen if he was ok ; if jo and her sidekick hadn't followed his clothes trail he might have died. Although I enjoyed it all I was confused by a lot of it esp Corinne pretending to be pregnant to save her marriage; seemed very extreme and you could get caught out so easily too. It was a very risky thing to do.
Still, it wasn't too bad and the houses were lovely to look at as well!

BarkandCheese · 10/02/2020 10:08

The house being knocked down bit was really fudged, no way would they have gone straight in with the bulldozers the second the bloke was out the house. They would have cleared his possessions first, and made sure the utilities were cut off otherwise they would have had a flood and risked electrocution and gas explosion. Then despite the house being half demolished his possessions were some miraculous rescued in one piece, and despite the owner being under arrest for murder the possessions were put in storage which was accessible by two members of the public.

The80sweregreat · 10/02/2020 10:14

Yeah, the house would not have been knocked down straight away without the appliances being removed first : water, gas would be on as he was living in it as a home and not just squatting there. That would have to be properly dealt with before they knocked it down.
I know there always ' poetic licence' but that was a bit hard to swallow! There were many plot holes all round.

Winniewonka · 10/02/2020 12:33

I was actually there when they were filming the alpaca scene. It's Bury in Greater Manchester, next to the Parish Church. I was meeting a friend for coffee and the cafe where Richard Armitage meets the private detective in the last episode and you see him exiting is the one we were in. It faces the dead alpaca scene.
For those who are interested, the council chambers where we see Anthony Head are in Bury Town Hall. Also the chase scene in the railway goods yard is part of the vintage preservation East Lancashire Railway Society also in Bury.
Jennifer Saunders cafe is near Manchester Cathedral but I think outside it might have been Stockport. The school is Bolton School (private) and the police station is actually Bolton Library!
Whether I'd have enjoyed the series as much without location spotting, I'm not sure. I agree some of the acting was woeful.

BertBox · 10/02/2020 23:53

I'm confused about Corinne's phone - they tracked it being on a train, and had nearly caught up with it, and then it almost immediately turned up on the viaduct - how?

Also, Katz must have driven the body in the car he left in the road by the station - it had her earring in the back. Surely the police would have found traces of blood on the seat, as she'd been whacked over the head with a hammer.

Why would Chris blackmail Jennifer Saunders, whose daughter obviously was sort of money; rather than just going after the sugar daddies, who would have been wealthy? (I don't just mean the three of them - she would have had the whole of the agency's details).

I have more plot holes, but I did enjoy it!

BertBox · 10/02/2020 23:54

*short of money.

Cinderemma · 11/02/2020 08:49

Just watched this and loved it but yeah there were a few bits that didn't make sense to me. Kind of liked watching it for Adam if I'm honest.

The80sweregreat · 11/02/2020 17:13

Richard Armitage is nice : he wasn't too bad in this. I'm confused by Corinne's car too as Tripp put her in his car to take her to the forest I thought? Who moved Corinne's car to the remote lane ?

kingkuta · 11/02/2020 21:31

For me personally it was the teenage friend, the one who was spiked. He made me cringe in every single scene he was in, I thought he was

Agree with a pp that he was great. Provided some really laugh out loud moments. One of the best things about the show.

The alpaca thing was awful. Surely cctv would have shown him killing the poor thing in the middle of a town. Surely this must be a caution or something or at least pay the woman who owned it some kind of compensation

You realise this is a TV show right? Grin

ClubfootMaestro · 11/02/2020 22:03

I enjoyed it!

What was the point of Suzanne Hope though?

And I still don’t get how Katz knew Heidi was blackmailed - it makes sense his client might have guessed Kitty could be being blackmailed but not her mother.

Plot holes notwithstanding, a great watch!

FlamingoAndJohn · 11/02/2020 22:38

I enjoyed it.

Thank you someone for saying it was Stockport market hall. I couldn’t quite remember where it was. I worked there about 25 years ago doing street theatre. One of the other people involved was the actor who played Tripp. Lovely chap.

I guess the thing with the murder in the end was that they would find the gun and link both murders to Katz via the gun. Who knows why he killed Tripp but he clearly did as it was his gun, so who else could have done it.
Did the son say to Mike about the tracking app on his phone, who then told Tripp?

The80sweregreat · 12/02/2020 06:58

Yeah, my observations about the alpaca were a bit much as I know it's not real but I just felt sorry for the poor animal caught up in this ( even though there never was a real alpaca involved or a killing of any kind ) 😂
#savecthealpaca.
It was nice to watch something not set in London as well.

SouthWestmom · 12/02/2020 13:11

Watching Ep8 - was signposted here. Police taking their time, hope I'm never at gunpoint somewhere 😂

SouthWestmom · 12/02/2020 13:41

Ok the ending is nuts. There's no way she'd look like that.

EachandEveryone · 12/02/2020 21:17

Where was the lovely old covered market?

NextdoorNeighbourIsATwat · 12/02/2020 22:24

I think Bob (fat teenager) was supposed to be funny but he was just annoying. And Dervla Kirwin was terrible So, so bad.

A lot of the acting was 'ITV Sunday night drama' standard.

But I loved seeing a British city and surrounds looking so gorgeous and the first few episodes really, really drew me in.

NextdoorNeighbourIsATwat · 12/02/2020 22:31

Bob? Mike? Whatever the fuck his name was Grin

BlueBell50 · 13/02/2020 03:38

I really enjoyed it, but I was a bit distracted spotting places I recognised. However as soon as I saw Shaun Dooley’s name on the opening credits I said “he did it, whatever it is he did it”

MyBlueMoonbeam · 13/02/2020 04:02

I enjoyed looking at Richard Armitage that's the only reason I watched 😬
Crazy plot - prosaic writing & weak acting from many of the cast 🙄
