Coming back - to channel 4. Let us hope that they don’t muller it like they did GBBO.

Melanie Sykes is hosting. I wish they’d kept Sara.

Let us hope channel 4 grab Fern and resurrect my allotment challenge too.

Yes, I've seen the pit before. It's like when Sewing Bee gives them treadle sewing machines to sew.... why?! We have the technology and equipment to make fantastic pots, let's use it!

Do think it is a standard challenge SoupD, I just find it a bit of an episode filler Grin

And toilets next week! I agree, if it's the final, it's a shame it's that. I love the artistic lamp bases, coffee pots, cups and saucers, bowls etc.... I don't have much interest in a handmade toilet! Grin

SoupDragon · 28/02/2020 08:46

I don't see the pit as any different to the Raku stuff really. It's just a different technique they've probably not done before.

A toilet final kind of makes sense as I'm guessing none of them will have done it before 😂

Roussette · 28/02/2020 08:55

Yeah you're probably right, it's just me!

SoupDragon · 28/02/2020 09:35

I know nothing about pottery though so I watch those programmes purely because I love watching craft in all its forms.

Roussette · 28/02/2020 09:44

I know nowt about it too, but I did have a dream that i could throw a pot, highly unlikely given my skills, or lack of. Grin

JudyCoolibar · 28/02/2020 10:25

The problem with Jacob's firing was a perfect illustration of why the firepit thing wasn't a particularly sensible challenge - he'd have got the effect he wanted with normal firing and it would have been more representative of the work he put into it. Mind you, I quite agreed with the judges that the more subtle colouring on his jars was still very effective.

Talking of enjoyable craft programmes, I stumbled on the end of the Handmade programme on BBC4 last night. It's a programme which simply shows the process of creating something without any commentary - last night it was a glass jug, but I see that previously they've done ones involving metalwork and woodwork. Recommended.

SoupDragon · 28/02/2020 10:54

But what is the point of challenging them with something they can do with their eyes shut? I like that they are challenged with things they've not done hundreds of times before, I think you get a more rounded potter as the winner rather than someone who is good at one thing.

As an aside, I thought Jacob's pots seemed to have more colour on them in the studio than they had coming out of the pit.

theLadyofShallnot · 28/02/2020 12:01

I agreed with this week and was relieved Jacob stayed as his pots were beautiful to me (nice pots shame about the base)

A toilet semi final will be hard I think.

ThickSock · 28/02/2020 17:03

Also relieved Jacob got through. He has been exceptional all the way through. Keith hasn’t been crying as much as I thought he was going to do. I had a suspicion he might have been told to increase the tears so it became the shows trademark sign of good work like the Hollywood handshake on bake off which is totally cringy and unnecessary.

blimey. That was a bit uncalled for IMO.

hazeyjane · 28/02/2020 21:31

Lordy, aren't you a peach Arthritica

Arthritica · 29/02/2020 08:12

You’re right.

I’d had a bloody awful day and was in a foul mood. Yes, I may dislike Rosalind but no reason to be spiteful.
I’ve reported my post to HQ.

Roussette · 29/02/2020 14:29

On to toilets!

Will they fill them with water and flush them, just to test they don't leak??

The mind boggles Grin

SoupDragon · 29/02/2020 15:49

They did last time! They had to put the flush mechanism in and show that it all worked. I think that it had to fit the soil pipe fitments too. There were a few issues IIRC!"

SoupDragon · 29/02/2020 15:50

Or maybe they were provided with the S bend part... I can't remember.

SoupDragon · 29/02/2020 15:56

I'd completely forgotten that the winning toilet was a turtle !

@Arthritica Flowers hope you are having a better day.

NoImNotEntertained · 29/02/2020 16:28

I'm so glad to find this thread! We discovered this show a couple of weeks ago and it's a real treat. All the DCs come and sit to watch it together. DD15 is very arty and we've found some pottery classes nearby that we're signing up for.
So inspiring, they're so talented! We also like how they all get on & help each other.

My youngest DD still comments on how vile all the contestants were to each other on US Masterchef! This is far more my cup of tea! Grin

Roussette · 29/02/2020 16:44

Soup I'd forgotten that! Love it! I know they've done toilets before, it's all a bit hazy though!

I agree NoImNotEntertained I can't stand any of the shows where there's a horrible undercurrent. I want happy stuff!

Roussette · 29/02/2020 16:45

p.s. That turtle is ridiculous! Not sure if I want to sit down on a toilet with a turtle's head between my legs Grin

SoupDragon · 29/02/2020 16:50

Me neither 😂😂

Arthritica · 29/02/2020 17:56

@hazeyjane Thanks. Needed to give my head a wobble and start fresh.

Veterinari · 01/03/2020 13:01

There have been some really unkind comments on this thread - slagging off what appears to be a perfectly nice woman (at least if the other contestants' comments are anything to go by) just because of how she looks.

Sad to see someone who is clearly a talented potter being torn apart just because of how she looks Sad
