Although the mum did say that Summer's dad was Joules as well..

PinkDandelions · 05/10/2019 08:32

I googled Summer Joules (cause I'm a nosey beggar) and surprise surprise mummy runs an Instagram account for her trying to make her a model/child-actress/influencer.

I too was very relieved when her eyes started watering 😬 the Mum didn't even want a dog just didn't know how to say no to her child! Poor pup looked really stressed - seemed much more relaxed meeting the older child later on.

mydogisthebest · 05/10/2019 09:42

I cried at the two older dogs. How could that woman give them up at their ages? She had had them 3 years so you think she would have been attached to them

All they wanted was a warm home and love. She must have known that Flynn probably did not have that long left and yet she made him spend his last few days or weeks in a rescue. The other one will likely not find a new home because lots of people don't want elderly pets.

mydogisthebest · 05/10/2019 09:44

Good grief I have just googled Summer Joules and she has 15,000 followers! Sad that a 6 year old can't have a normal childhood.

purpleme12 · 05/10/2019 10:46

Mydogisthebest I did too. I just wanted to rescue them. They looked so loving

dogsdinnerlady · 11/10/2019 14:00

Just me watching now? Navy nurse lady last night got a dog instead of (another) man. Dog sleeps on bed, cuddles on sofa. She announced she was now in a new relationship (with a man) at the end of the show so let's hope he is a dog lover. Husky-cross was gorgeous, odd blue eyes.
Couple with history of failed IVF were interesting. He admitted he 'couldn't cope' when 4th cycle failed and wouldn't speak to his wife???
The dog obvs preferred him to her. Poor woman.

MiniCooperLover · 11/10/2019 22:59

As someone who has gone through IVF I saw his admissions differently to you I think. I thought he was being quite honest in admitting he went off the rails and she supported him when he said that. Then with various things he said and did made it clear he still adores his wife. The dog clearly loves them both how do that's good.

purpleme12 · 12/10/2019 01:53

I would have taken the husky and Loki. So sad when Loki looked at the door when her owner left.

Give me the big dogs any day!

CSIblonde · 18/10/2019 18:52

I wish the families would cut the dogs some slack. A rescue may well have confidence or a behaviour issue which can be sorted with time, kindness & patience. Rescues often offer free help with issues like that when settling in too. Just one thing & they're dismissed or returned. Why did that couple meet poor Wally then say they "didn't want a project" . He's a poor confused soul who needs understanding, not a project. They were told he collected toys & had issues over aggression with toys & had been shouted at for that.

bobkate · 18/10/2019 21:49

Did anyone else think the older lady who came in with her daughter and niece didn't come across as a doggie person at all? The way she was patting it at one point, not stroking it. Reminded me of how the mil begrudgingly touches our dogs and she really doesn't like them! Also, there was no 'some time later' update so I am actually hoping she returned him.
Felt sorry for poor wally Sad

IncrediblySadToo · 18/10/2019 22:02

@LochJessMonster

Jess - it’s a great program & the staff look fab!

Are they letting you keep the meeting area?

MaHeidsGouping · 18/10/2019 22:16

I thought that Bobkate, I rewound the programme incase I had missed her update. She didn't seem like she wanted a dog and it was more the family members encouraging her.

MissDollyMix · 18/10/2019 22:24

I thought that too (re lady with the bichon) I wondered if the shelter had also picked up on this and had talked her out of getting the dog.

purpleme12 · 18/10/2019 23:52

It does seem a bit suspicious that there wasn't an update?
He was so cute that one who put his paws up!

So sad about Wally. I thought they featured the couple at the end cos it was going to be his happy ending but obviously not

purpleme12 · 18/10/2019 23:53

I felt a bit sad for the dog who was going to go with the older woman cos she kept saying not on bed! Telling that a lot of the dogs has slept on their owners' beds

lynsey91 · 19/10/2019 17:36

I don't understand why so many of the people looking for dogs live such a distance from the rescue. How are they doing home checks? I would hope they are doing home checks.

I felt sorry for Wally. That couple could have taken him on. I don't really see that he would be a "big project"

purpleme12 · 19/10/2019 17:40

Can't speak for wood green but I know other rescues re-home quite a distance away and they have contacts a way away who will home check on their behalf

bobkate · 20/10/2019 22:16

Glad it wasn't just me that thought that then!

purpleme12 · 20/10/2019 23:14

I've looked on their Facebook site and Janet did bring Bruce home but returned him because she had another family bereavement and couldn't cope

Wally went to another owner and his behaviour actually got worse and had seizures too. They did take him to the vet. He was hitting unpredictably and acting aggressive so he came back and in the end they had to put him down because of it all

lynsey91 · 21/10/2019 09:16

Over the years I have had many rescue cats and dogs. Every one of the rescues I got them from did a home check.

I went to one just to look round and fell in love with one of the cats. I had homed 3 cats from them before but had moved further away. They would not let me have the cat because I lived too far for someone to carry out a home check. This was quite a large rescue too

LochJessMonster · 30/10/2019 11:39

So glad everyone enjoyed it!

They kept all the returned dogs in the show because it shows the reality of dog rescue. 'Perfect' owners suddenly return dogs for trivial reasons. We do get people with allergies asking to adopt dogs. Dogs develop unexpected behaviours once in a new home. Euthanasia is sometimes the kindest option for those with physical or mental suffering.
Its not all happy ever after unfortunately.

But it was amazing to see the fantastic homes that were offered, and how a dog can really complete a family.
