@silvernewmoon
Thank you. That makes it clearer. I haven't read the books so it's nice to get the other perspective. I stil feel sorry for demelza 🤣 men!!!

CaptainMyCaptain · 15/07/2019 21:51

Garrick could be a different dog - son of Garrick.

TildaKauskumholm · 16/07/2019 12:03

Disappointing, surely they could age the actors 10 years and continue with the original story, which would be much more interesting.

stumbledin · 16/07/2019 14:12

The point is, whether it is convincing or not, is that this series is trying to imagine how the main characters ended up in the situation as shown in the books ten years later. eg Poldark becomes a government agent.

As someone else posted earlier the problem is we are meant to see him as some sort of charismatic hero, and I think he is despicable and should have been horsewhipped and exciled from the county for his treatment of Elizabeth and Demelza.

But then maybe that makes him / the actor the logical choice for the next Bond who was also an antiquated unreconstructed misogynist.

As they say on the Guardian recap series for Poldark I am team Demelza all the way, but unfortunately she seems to have turned into a cliched loyal wife.

Almost a shame they included the real life characters of Ned and Kitty Despard as it would make a fascinating series of its own. Look at the sucess of Gentleman Jack.

ivechangedmynameok · 21/07/2019 20:59

Anyone watching tonight?

ElspethFlashman · 21/07/2019 21:07

Me. God knows why!

It's all so cartoonish.

Sewrainbow · 21/07/2019 21:25

I'm bored.... think ill give up Sad

Badtasteflump · 21/07/2019 21:30

I am watching but am really struggling to get into the new series. Not really enjoying it.... anybody else?

ElspethFlashman · 21/07/2019 21:37

It's dull as fuck tbh.

I don't care about Ned. Or this insane assassin. Why should we care about any of this?

Badtasteflump · 21/07/2019 21:51

It’s hard to care when it feels likea load of made up twaddle...

IcedPurple · 21/07/2019 22:16

I am watching but am really struggling to get into the new series. Not really enjoying it.... anybody else?

Same. Like another poster said, why are we supposed to care about Ned? Or the anachronistic slavery story line?

ivechangedmynameok · 21/07/2019 22:19

It's definitely not as good as the other series but I'll keep watching... I don't care about Ned, Tess, cecily, and barely care about poldark now to be honest... and as for warleggan what the hell have they done to this character?

I'm watching for drake, morwenna and the Cornish scenery

itscallednickingbentcoppers · 21/07/2019 23:33

Biggest Poldark fan ever here and this series is sooo boring.

itscallednickingbentcoppers · 22/07/2019 00:06

Uncle Warleggan is carrying the whole show with his hilarious facial expressions.

ineedaholidaynow · 22/07/2019 00:14

I thought I didn't remember these storylines in the books, but it is a long time since I read them

Equatoria · 22/07/2019 00:46

I liked the first series but it got a bit samey after that.

ivechangedmynameok · 22/07/2019 06:35

These storylines were not in the books, this series is attempting to bridge the 10 year gap.

WeaselsRising · 22/07/2019 11:04

Yes I watched both episodes yesterday getting more and more confused. The assassination attempt on the King was real and led to the introduction of the Criminal Lunatics Act.

But this 10 year period was obviously not covered by the books for a reason and the lack of original material shows in the ridiculous storylines. As a lifelong fan (read the books in 1975) I am not impressed with this series so far.

thecatsthecats · 22/07/2019 12:24

As someone else posted earlier the problem is we are meant to see him as some sort of charismatic hero, and I think he is despicable and should have been horsewhipped and exciled from the county for his treatment of Elizabeth and Demelza.

They have, it seems, completely skated over the more horrible aspects of Ross's character - he didn't just cheat on Demelza, in the books he explicitly raped Elizabeth. Warleggan, for all his faults, treated her like a queen, and his only faults regarding her were his misplaced semi-legitimate doubts about Valentine's paternity (not knowing she was raped). The poor sod does go off the rails in the gap apparently, whilst Ross swans happily into the sunset with Demelza.

Almost a shame they included the real life characters of Ned and Kitty Despard as it would make a fascinating series of its own. Look at the sucess of Gentleman Jack.

I feel like they've missed the mark here again making Ross, again, the white saviour of these real historical figures. In the books he is anti-slavery, but more particularly anti-poverty. It's just bland.

I think Geoffrey Charles is just aged up to make up the numbers in another new romance plot.

Pfft. Dwight and Caroline are the true romance of the novels. Never cheat on each other, have their struggles but overcome them. Accommodate to each other's lives and wishes because they truly love each other. Realistic about their differences. Fuck the rest of them, Dwaroline all the way!

MissSueFlay · 22/07/2019 12:43

It's all getting a bit 'preachy' to me - I sat through the second episode counting the number of right-on social issues that could be crammed into an hour: anti-slavery, mental illness, women's rights, criminal justice, mixed-race marriage, corruption... have I missed any?!

And it all seems to have moved to London - much as Old Greenwich is beautiful, I want to see Cornwall!

ElspethFlashman · 22/07/2019 16:03

Well Ross has shown a remarkable lack of ability to evolve.

George: "I take responsibility for my part, do you take yours?"

Narrators Voice: "Ross did not take his..."

Even last night he was spending all his time making speeches and having meetings about some dodgy shouty dude he barely knows but who kinda/sorta saved his life once. Meanwhile I could imagine all the poor people of Truro going "I bet Marrster Rawwwws is tryin' 'is' ardest for us common folk!"

Yeah but no. Not so much.

historysock · 22/07/2019 17:46

I always think Poldark should be on in autumn OP!
Why has he not got any of his kit off yet??

EasyLifer · 22/07/2019 17:48

Another one struggling with this series. I love dramas sat in Olde Worlde London, but I don't want Poldark set there. I want to see the Cornish scenery, hear the local accents and see the familiar characters. Prudie is my favourite!

ElspethFlashman · 22/07/2019 18:03

At least Prudie finally has been given clean clothes. After a decade.

WhenPushComesToShove · 22/07/2019 18:05

Only watched the first episode of the new series so far. Just love how beautiful Cornwall looks and of course Ross is rather beautiful too. He should definitely wear less clothes; I wouldn't let him out of bed to save the world or whatever. Sorry my lust got the better of me there!
