Just that really. I don't know what to think.

I don't know which pod cast I listened to,it was the interview with her sister was SO good.

He is as guilty as sin.

LoafofSellotape · 04/07/2019 13:14

Oh and the fact he's having/had a relationship with one of the producers of the Netflix doc.

Start reading up on it more OP, you'll waste days Smile

SouthWestmom · 04/07/2019 13:18

Yeah the other lady falling downstairs is a bit like a good idea for him to use as 'staging' maybe.

There was so much blood and all over her body. I don't know how that could happen from a fall.

LoafofSellotape · 04/07/2019 13:24

Oh it can definitely happen from a fall, soooo much blood ,it's fairly alarming ime.

SouthWestmom · 04/07/2019 13:35

That's why it's so weird isn't it? Everything is possible.

Listening to the podcast now

Well thanks to this thread I’ve gone down this rabbit hole.

There is something really off about him. I don’t have an opinion on his guilt or innocence yet, though.

UserThenLotsOfNumbers · 04/07/2019 15:28

I have started to rewatch the series on the basis of this thread Grin
It's interesting to read PP saying that some evidence wasn't shown in the Netflix series, I definitely got the impression we weren't seeing the whole story.
He's definitely highly suspect.

UserThenLotsOfNumbers · 04/07/2019 15:34

I feel like the daughters believe he's innocent because of everything they've been through with their mother and then Kathleen, the thought of him being guilty would be too much to bear.

CornishMaid1 · 04/07/2019 17:08

I actually believe he is innocent. I think he is a very bizarre man and rather weird, but I do not think he killed his wife.

The owl theory is not implausible and I am not sure how she died. They had both been drinking.

He may be gay or bisexual, but that is not unusual in married men or certain ages, as a number did marry women. There is nothing to say either way whether she knew and she may have accepted it for all we know. Just because he may have flings with men does not make him a murderer.

The death of the girls' mother was determined to be an aneurysm with which he had no involvement. Who honestly kills a friend, stages it as an accident and then adopts the children? That case should never have been brought up in his trial as it tainted the case.

I do think he loved Kathleen and I do not think he deliberately killed her. I think she may not have been found by him for some time and perhaps if he found her earlier she may still be alive.

If you watch the last episode (I think) where they pay the 911 tape in Court and look at his face and hear him on that tape, either he is a fantastic actor or he is that distraught.

I do think often there is too much desire in America to punish someone for a crime, even if they have the wrong person - Exhibit A on Netflix is another example of that.

LoafofSellotape · 04/07/2019 17:47

The black cat poster though!!Shock

Owlchemist · 04/07/2019 17:50

What confused me the most was... Who the hell gets their extended family matching blow-pokes!?

SouthWestmom · 04/07/2019 18:06

I don't know because there was a lot of stuff not in the documentary. She used his computer (unusual) late at night and may have discovered his porn/escort stuff. She was safe to drive in terms of alcohol levels. He was in debt as were the boys.

I watching this late last year so my memory is a bit hazy, but I was definitely on the fence at the end of the series. Then I went on Reddit and it became clear how much stuff had been left out of the documentary. And it was 13 hours long so they had time to cover it off if they'd wanted to! Was completely unsurprised when it turned out he was doing a line with the producer.

If anyone liked it there was a feature length doc on Netflix we watched the other month- think it was called "Dirty John" or similar. It's basically the accompanying documentary to that series about the gaslighting conman with Eric Bana, it's got the real people in it. Amazing.

SouthWestmom · 04/07/2019 18:18

What's the black cat poster?
Dirty John has come up on my Netflix
My book has arrived!

MP's <a class="break-all" href="https://web.archive.org/web/20051018183218/www.justicemag.com/daily/item/1186.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">sister gave an account of how she went from believing her DB was innocent to realising that he'd probably done it. Really interesting read.

SouthWestmom · 04/07/2019 19:17

Just read the sisters account - was that before or after the Alford plea?

OP posts:
LadyKylieShagworthy · 04/07/2019 21:46

I also really enjoyed Dirty John.

Doyouavocado · 04/07/2019 21:50

I tried to watch it but their accents kept making me fall asleep for some reason so I gave up after the 3rd attempt. The innocent man of Netflix is better I thought, heartbreaking but I loved it!

SouthWestmom · 04/07/2019 21:51

Dirty John was really good

OP posts:
Bluerussian · 05/07/2019 03:13

I didn't find it that interesting, disappointing as I usually like that sort of thing. I actually fell asleep on the sofa after it had been on quite a long time and when I woke up, it was over.

SouthWestmom · 05/07/2019 12:46

Oh what a shame , maybe try during the day?
The book is fascinating - tells a lot more like his theft from a friend, his dislike of LR etc

OP posts:
SpooSpoon · 05/07/2019 13:13

I'm on episode two but as intriguing as it is I don't think I can watch the whole series.

FaithInfinity · 24/01/2020 17:03

Bumping this! I’ve just finished watching it. Read a bit more around it. I certainly feel for all the children involved. It’s such a weird case. I keep swinging between thinking he’s innocent and then guilty! None of it adds up. I think what his sister wrote is quite telling...

ludothedog · 02/02/2020 00:06

Re watching this series. He's as guilty as sin. Those poor kids being gas lighted all those years. Psychologically it must be so difficult for them to accept that the man that brought them up, loved and cared for them, killed their birth mother and step-mother.
