London Kills BBC1

I came across this by chance.Started yesterday and shown each day at 1:45pm and then again at night (was 11:50pm yesterday)

Not really sure what I think of it, but really just wanted to say I hope Sharon Small doesn't mind being endlessly cast as another version of Havers all through her career.

(I am hoping as it has a day time slot it wont have too much overt violence and uncalled for female nudity. I just story telling.)

It's only on this week, before Eastbourne and then Wimbledon tennis.
The script is pretty dire and simplistic.
When Sharon Small read the caution, she got it wrongGrin

toldmywrath · 25/06/2019 20:20

Having said that, it's nice seeing the views of London and no overt gore or violence.

Magicpaintbrush · 25/06/2019 23:02

I thought it was very meh. Like a previous poster said, very simplistic. Didn't have much depth. Feels like it's all been done before but better.

Zog14 · 26/06/2019 00:31

I started watching this tonight on iplayer. Honestly I love a crime drama but this was totally boring, couldn’t connect with any of the characters, yawnsville. I turned it off and started watching newsnight, that’s how bad it was!

toldmywrath · 26/06/2019 14:21

Emma Barnett was way more interesting on Newsnight, I agree.

stumbledin · 26/06/2019 14:22

I've now watched two episodes and it reminds me of when they tried to do that UK version of Law and Order. Same pace and style of dialogue. I really only originally posted as I was thinking how awful to still be type cast after all those years since Shroan Small had to put up with the pompous idiot Linley (realise I cant remember the characters name).

RingtheBells · 27/06/2019 18:17

I’m quite enjoying it, hoping we get some answers tomorrow about the missing wife

CoolBee · 27/06/2019 21:45

I liked it too

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/06/2019 22:44

Ahhhh jeez. First few mins threw me :(

Hate seeing hangings - always reminds me when I found dh :(

Wish they sometimes gave you a heads up

stumbledin · 27/06/2019 23:29

Blondeshavemorefun

So sorry - how terrible for you - yes they should give warnings especially as first shown early afternoon (and repeated late nights).

It was one of the reasons I thought I would give it a go as I thought it would not be so graphically violent. But hadn't thought through that for some who have real experience of violence might find it triggering.

Shock

Thanks @stumbledin

If I know I will see hanging I’m ok

But when see suddenly on screen it gets to me. Even now after 8yrs

The dangling legs

Shakes self !!

Yes to be shown in the afternoon with no warning I thought was bad

But apart from that - I enjoyed the storyline and will try and watch no 2 tomorrow - well today. It’s now past midnight

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/06/2019 07:32

Just started e3

I was thinking why haven they said who killed the son in e1 then the ending of e2 was good

Will we find out why she killed him ? Don’t tell me lol

Silly policelady kissing her

And assume wife is alive due to red bag

I’m enjoying

Is it 5 episodes or on this week as well

Ladymargarethall · 30/06/2019 09:41

I think that's it. Hope there's a second series.

Optimist1 · 30/06/2019 18:06

According to IMDb there are 10 episodes this year - I really hope that they'll be showing the next five after Wimbledon!

StarJumpsandaHalf · 01/07/2019 09:57

I thought it was slow to start off, probably the first two episodes and then I got into it. The dialogue was poor at times though, the script needs sharpening up. It has potential though.

stumbledin · 01/07/2019 11:51

I fell asleep in the last episode (5) as it was repeated so late at night.

Has the missing wife reappeared?

OP posts:
StarJumpsandaHalf · 01/07/2019 12:42

No. We didn’t find out any more either, except how Amber whoever came by the red handbag. I was very distracted by how much she, Amber, looked like the stepdaughter. I thought they were sisters at first.

TeachesOfPeaches · 01/07/2019 20:12

I've just come across this on bbc I player and it is SO BAD! Half way through episode one and I've gone looking on MN to see if anyone agrees with me Grin

Redshoeblueshoe · 01/07/2019 20:17

Star I thought that they were sisters.
Stumbledin the American Law and Order was actually based on a British tv series, I can't remember which one.

stumbledin · 01/07/2019 23:49

StarJumpsandaHalf - thanks

I couldn't make the effort to watch online, but agree about the 2 characters looking alike. I thought that was just me nodding off.

Redshoeblueshoe - well I googled it. And it seems it was originally a US series, with off shoots. And about a year before it was cancelled in the US they started the UK version (with the same plot lines for series one?)

But either way the style of London Kills reminded me of the series. ie the same team apparently clearing up series crimes in each episode with some personal stuff added on.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/07/2019 18:49

Finally seen 5th

I really enjoyed. Thought good plot and assumed amber had killed mum

Seems not

Did he push amber - prob not coz she may have had info

Clever how all stories tied in

Look forward to no 6 prob be shown in a year :(

Isatis · 13/07/2019 17:20

Just been watching this, looked confidently for no. 6 which I assumed would be about finding the missing wife and whether the inspector chucked Amber over the balcony, somewhat bemused to find the series has finished, at least for now.

I was really mainly watching it for background noise whilst I grappled with a complicated crochet pattern. With hindsight, it really is pretty poor. Why did absolutely none of the interviewees in any crime investigated have a solicitor with them? How come there wasn't a separate team investigating the disappearance of the inspector's wife? And how come the equivalent of the Line of Duty mob didn't turn up once Amber hit the ground?

Redshoeblueshoe · 13/07/2019 17:26

Stumbled after my previous post I went back on Wikipedia and it says what you said, but I'm sure I once read it was originally based on a British program from the 60's.
Does anyone know when it's back on ?
I'll have a look on the BBC site
