@loveislandnc is one of the new lads your friend?

unique1986 · 17/06/2019 11:57

I was shocked Amy did not find the food fight funny.
As they seemed to both be going for it during the clips we saw.
I thought it was disgusting they were chucking food and drinks..

Would have preferred a mud fight

itswinetime · 17/06/2019 11:58

Personally I don't think joe and Lucie will survive this vote but if they did 1) it would be interesting to see how Lucie, Maura and Elma get on and 2) for some new girls who have seen all this to go in and give everyone a wake up call re Joes behaviour if nothing else!

unique1986 · 17/06/2019 11:58

I mean the mix of stuff they were throwing looked yuk.
Can imagine feeling awful after.
Flour and cakes should have been it!

Pieceofpurplesky · 17/06/2019 12:03

Amy and Joe should couple up. She is vapid enough for him

RagingWhoreBag · 17/06/2019 12:10

Agree that the ASD comments are unfounded and unnecessary - none of us can know from the brief moments they show whether any of the contestants have any sort of condition.

They’re in a pressure cooker environment surrounded by cameras being forced to create connections or be sent home. None of their behaviour is ‘the real them’ even if you feel like the mask has slipped and someone has shown ‘who they really are’ (ie Joe being abusive etc) it’s really unfair to make a sweeping judgment based on the fleeting moments we’re shown, often out of context.

You certainly can’t diagnose aspergers off the back of a food fight FFS.

@FrustratedTeddyLamp I’ve found the article which has the ‘rape’ conversation referenced. He claims it was used in an appropriate way.

However, reading the ‘rape’ discussion in context makes me wonder if he has changed the conversation as his reply doesn’t make sense to me. ‘Cracking on’ isn’t the same as sleeping with someone so I don’t understand his reply that it would be rape? Obviously it wouldn’t be appropriate to keep flirting with someone when they’ve made it clear they aren’t interested though. Makes me think the conversation has been toned down or he has been told he cannot reveal the conversation in full!

@Shequakes

Thank you. You managed to say very much how I feel now and also when I was younger but, even to this day I have trouble verbalising this point.

I totally get Lucie crying. When I was younger and people were having a go at me personally, I didnt have the confidence to say "ok, you dont like how I act. Tough shit".

I also really struggled to stand up for myself. It made me feel frustrated and I would cry out of frustration. Not to play the victim. It's an awful feeling knowing people are talking about you, criticising you to your face and feeling totally stuck about doing anything about it.

When someone is telling you, you shouldnt do something that's normal for you (being friends with men) and you arent good at standing up for yourself and you are confused and cant Express yourself. Again tears of frustration can happen. Not about playing the victim or going over the top.

noleftturn · 17/06/2019 12:30

I loved Caroline's hair last year, it was perfect! I don't think I like the extensions I'm mourning the old hair.

noleftturn · 17/06/2019 12:30

Also, why can't the islanders have those tiny mics instead of the huge ones?

Zampa · 17/06/2019 12:32

Checking in. Can't believe you've filled 3 pages already!

nowifi · 17/06/2019 12:32

Agree with Lucie not being able to stand up for herself, if she were 10 years older she would definitely be telling them all where to go I reckon, she needs that kind of confidence that comes with age but sh's not quite there. I do feel sorry for her as don't think she has done anything wrong really, if I were Curtis I'd be running from Amy far far away which he probably will anyway as he's obvs gay

LoveIslandNC · 17/06/2019 12:35

@RainbowPanda yep! Tom! He's going to live Maura 🤦🏻‍♀️

BenWillbondsPants · 17/06/2019 12:35

I'm getting strong autistic vibes off of Lucie. I think she's extremely lovey but there are a lot of traits there.

Sorry, but I think this is unnecessary.

I'm really getting to dislike Joe. He gets that look on his face when something happens he doesn't like - open mouth and over-blinking. It would do my head in.

LoveIslandNC · 17/06/2019 12:35

Love even

GeriAtric · 17/06/2019 12:39

I agree that we shouldn't be diagnosing people based on how they present on a TV show, but I don't think it's inappropriate to discuss these things. A very good friend of mine is diagnosed Asperger's and she has explained to me her lack of awareness regarding social cues etc. Someone may say to me "it's okay, no problem" but I may guage from their tone and the way they behave afterwards that, actually, it's not okay and there is some lingering resentment. It doesn't mean it's my issue to solve, but I would understand how the land lies My friend would absolutely accept it and move on from it all completely.

You could call it being paranoid and unhealthy, but people very often aren't 'straight up' about things. People play games and a lot of us understand the rules of those games even though we've never been taught how to play, while they go completely over the heads of other people who are then labelled as insensitive for not realising what's going on.

PhillipeFellope · 17/06/2019 12:39

I can't stand Joe. The pouty petulant face and thinking, and vocalising, that he basically thinks Lucie should sit there and be his pretty little pet. She's said multiple times she prefers the company of men. Amy is a nasty piece of work. Joe and Amy are a match made in heaven. They could just sit by themselves and hiss if anyone approached them.

GeriAtric · 17/06/2019 12:42

Analysing the different ways in which people interact socially is one of the reasons I love watching this programme.

I agree totally that some people don’t get subtle hints etc but labelling it with a diagnosable condition isn’t helpful to anyone.

DP is in no way autistic but he still takes things at face value. We were discussing Love Island last night and I’m saying things like “he’s not as into her as She is into him” etc and he’s like “but he said he really likes her!”

He can’t see the subtleties of eg Amy and
Curtis’ behaviour, like when he kisses her and doesn’t seem that into it, or strides in and starts counselling people and I’m saying “he’s making himself indispensable so they don’t kick him out, they want to be Jack and Danni” and DP is flabbergasted at my cynicism, as he just takes it that Curtis is a thoroughly nice chap and there can’t be any ulterior motive.

He likes to think of himself as a straightforward type who says it like it is, and doesn’t see when anyone else’s issues are thinly veiled. He’s in no way autistic.

Hmm, as said, I'm not sure lucie is entirely blameless in all this. I agree she's being bullied by Amy and Amy's behaviour is deeply unpleasant, and I also agree joe is controlling. But I think lucies food fight fiasco, the whispering with tommy, and thr heavy focus on the men because rhey are men aren't good.

To say it's just this particular bunch of girls she doesn't like is a stretch, she's openly admitted to having no female friends ever, and there are nice girls in there, Yewande for example, or Anna seems very fair, even molly . I think these women would have given her the time of day. And still would.

As a pp said, if you openly admit you can't get on with half the population simply due to their gender the problem is you. And she sat there and said it.

It doesn't mean that Amy, joe etc aren't worse, way worse, but I'm not of the opinion that lucie is totally blameless.

I'd also bet good money she fancies tommy and if something happens between her and joe, which I suspect it will, they will likely get it together.

RagingWhoreBag · 17/06/2019 12:50

Agreed. And then all the people complaining about why can’t men have female friends will see why, if they find each other attractive it’s never ‘just friends’.

notmylittleangel · 17/06/2019 12:50

Joe is a vile abusive little boy isn't he!

Coercive control all over. I'm tempted to watch a few bits with my girls so they can learn to see it 'IRL'.

Amy is a spoilt princess who is creating drama where there doesn't need to be. Lucie likes to hang out with the boys and with the girls in the villa I don't blame her for one minute. The only one who gets her is Maura.

They will vote joe and lucie, I really want joe, Amy and Anna out. That would be a much nicer environment.

Pieceofpurplesky · 17/06/2019 12:51

Lucy and Tommy will end up together. He is not really in to MM and Joe will dump
lucie after pressure from Amy
