I’ve just watched the first 30 mins and I don’t think I can watch on. My heart is heavy and I feel sick.

I can’t believe this is based on a true story. I’ve read little snippets about it here and there and knew of the story but didn’t comprehend the brutality of it.

Those poor poor boys. 😢😢😢

I watched too , it was very sad and uncomfortable viewing.
The fact that those involved still refuse their wrong doings is mind blowing.

Bluebluered · 05/06/2019 15:52

What kind of person are you to pin something on someone when you know full well it’s a lie? How can you live with yourself? Very highly disturbing.

Because they were never seen as children/people , rather they are seen as animals and that's why they still don't feel any remorse.

Bluebluered · 05/06/2019 21:58

Yes that’s true. They were treated as animals..even worse. I really hope there’s a massive backlash against the bitch Linda Fairstein after this.

I finished episode 1. I don’t think I have the mental energy to watch 2 yet.

I have finished this tonight and have sobbed quite a lot throughout. Sickening how those children were treated throughout and shocking that there was even a conviction in the first place. Compelling and uncomfortable viewing which demonstrates how these kids were treated as less than human simply due to their colour.

urbanmist · 09/06/2019 12:53

I binged this last night. Wow! It was really powerful viewing and I sobbed my way through episode 4.
Donald Trump paid for a full page advert in the NY Times calling for their execution at the time. An outrageous injustice.

MissClementine · 09/06/2019 23:39

Just finished episode 4. What a harrowing watch, I sobbed at every episode and felt utterly saddened and angry by it all. Amazing acting and so well put together. I will not forget this, really powerful.

Bluebluered · 11/06/2019 10:11

I’ve finally watched the final episode. What an emotional ride 😢. I’m in tears. Every single person was casted perfectly, brilliant acting. Same as you missclementine, this has really affected me and I won’t forget it. Something I will definitely recommend my children watch once they’re in their teens.

This was so powerful and upsetting. My heart hurts from thinking about it Sad

I watched the last episode last night but had to turn it off as it was so upsetting. In particular Korey's story, what he suffered in adult high security prisons was just horrific. I watched the rest of it this evening and even though I'm glad they were exonerated and compensated it just doesn't feel enough. No amount of money could make up for their suffering at the time. I bawled so many times watching it.

ClownTent · 12/06/2019 19:37

I think I listened to a podcast about this case recently - a true crime one by Redhanded. I started watching this earlier in the week but because I knew the storyline I thought I might find it too distressing. Is it hard to watch?

AnyFucker · 12/06/2019 19:51

.

golddustwomen · 12/06/2019 19:56

I cried the whole way through the last episode. The whole thing was a very hard watch but very well done.

Batshittery · 12/06/2019 20:01

I watched this last week. It was a very hard watch and well acted by all. I also cried through it. No amount of money could ever make up for the injustice, particularly poor Korey. Man, he suffered. Sad

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 12/06/2019 21:19

Yes it's very hard to watch in parts, but worth watching all the same.

Bluebluered · 12/06/2019 21:57

ClownTent it’s extremely hard to watch. I had to do it in parts because it made my heart so heavy. Even thinking about it, I’m upset and I’m not someone who is upset easily by things on tv. It’s the worse case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

But saying that, I really feel it’s something everyone should watch. The prejudice and racism is still happening today, and what makes it even scarier is that as stated above, the man who took out a page to call for these children to be executed is America’s president. If the leader of the “free” world thinks like that, then what hope is there today?

I've just finished watching it, it was so upsetting, especially the last episode with Korey, he had such an awful time in there, my heart broke several times for him.

The way those boys were treated, the lies that were told to get a conviction. My head and heart just can't handle it. My sons are the same age.

Wow2806 · 13/06/2019 09:27

It made me cry to.

Thought it was heartbreaking for the Lads and there Mums and Dads. The last episode with Korey at the end when it shows them in real life he looks so haunted.
Have be watching a few interviews with the lads and it's not surprising Korey speaks like a boxer does. That lad has endured whey to much

And find it very unnerving that those officers and that women to this day deny any responsibility.

The programme has done good though in so much of raising awareness of the system

I mean its not the 1st programme to highlight injustice but just proves in spite of everything it still continue's regardless of the bloody era.

Its also brought awareness of other story's
another young lad was 16 arrested for suspicion of stealing someones bag.

He was sent to Rikers Island were he spent think it was 3 bloody years in solitary confinement waitng to be took to court. He was released cause they couldnt get any evidence against him.
The lad ended up killing himself. I mean how many more are there like this. Its scary shit as a mum living in New York think I would be more than a little concerned Sad

Bluebluered · 13/06/2019 10:54

I don’t know how I feel about Antron’s Dad. He made his son tell a lie to save his job because he was threatened. Did he leave the family out of guilt or because he couldn’t deal with the situation and was selfish?

OP posts:
MadCatEnthusiast · 13/06/2019 12:53

I thought it was implied that if Antron's dad's crime was revealed to his employer it would mean he possibly couldn't get another job as good as he had then which would've ruined the McCray family life style. That wasn't meant to be selfish but seeing as NYPD betrayed him, guilt took over him and he probably felt like a dead weight to the family.

Selfish but also not.

Linda Fairstein and that other prosecutor should've been struck off when they were found innocent. There is no remorse because she maintains that they're still guilty.

It's pure racism and she's probably done it to other innocent people of colour whose crimes hadn't been confessed. Had Reyes and Korey not met, he wouldn't have confessed and Korey would've still been in prison until the rest of his sentence.

Korey couldn't even read his statement properly due to his learning disability and he shouldn't have been questioned alone even if he was 16. He had valid reasons for not going to school but he was painted as a truant who didn't know how to read properly because he didn't go to school. It's not fair and my heart breaks because of that.

Darls3000 · 13/06/2019 13:45

Yet another reason seeing the royal family entertain moronic Trump was too much. The man is not fit for purpose. Funding the PR campaign against the boys and still refusing to admit he was wrong (his nasty tweet about the series ) is depressing.

Reith · 27/06/2019 09:21

I liked the way Trump was portrayed, as an irrelevant, racist, joke. Pity that's not reflected in real life.

I'm half way through the Oprah Winfrey episode related to this. I'm not a fan of the sensational American style, but it's such a powerful programme. The way the men are... I have no words to express the impact of their story.

UnderOverUnderRover · 29/06/2019 16:16

I've just watched the the 4 episodes.

Fuck me 😔

This is the saddest thing I've watched. I cried. A lot.

I didn't want to watch it after reading about the CP5, dh 'made' me and it's so worth it.

I really don't know what else to say other than we should get angry about this, it's made me really question things and wonder what l can do to make this world better.

Snowy111 · 28/07/2019 15:41

Just watched this. It’s exceptional. Powerful and harrowing. As a mother of two sons I’ve been sobbing through a lot of it.

Unbelievable that people involved still won’t concede they are wrong. Including that racist horror Trump www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.vox.com/platform/amp/policy-and-politics/2019/6/18/18684217/trump-central-park-5-netflix

Wasrelaxing · 06/08/2019 21:00

I got about 30 mins in and had to stop watching. I can’t bring myself to watch anymore.
