J-RM tried to justify and whitewash the concentration camps. Angry

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 12/06/2019 08:37

Blush to admit to never having heard of UN directive 'Agenda 21' clearly have been living under a rock all these years

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/06/2019 08:41

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 Agenda 21

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 12/06/2019 09:00

Thanks QueenOfTheAndals. Clearly I need to do some serious reading.

FoxSquadKitten · 12/06/2019 09:10

I thought Steve was moving Viktor out of harms' way not into it.

Yes I thought that at first.
His grinning face that the daughter saw gave me the shivers. Horrible man.

SushiGo · 12/06/2019 09:31

The opening scene showed press suppression and you can see from the news clips that there are less about the rest of the world and about political decisions being debated. Also without Danny banging his drum the family just aren't talking about politics much so developments aren't being discussed.

The red zones may have been announced and no one really noticed or didn't realise what it would mean until the fence went up.

I agree I'm worried about bethany, the government must be keeping tabs on what she does.

SapphireBattersea · 12/06/2019 09:36

I found this one a bit confusing and hard to follow

Will persevere though

Asta19 · 12/06/2019 09:47

I knew someone would blame Viktor but I thought it would be Rosie. In terms of the story though, Rosie would have no means for revenge whereas Stephen did, so it fit. I prefer darker stories to “happily ever after” so I quite liked it! But from the next weeks preview I think Viktor will be saved, clearly Bethany isn’t happy and she is very powerful now.

peachgreen · 12/06/2019 10:42

A lot of the opposition for Agenda 21 stems from an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory. Here's a less biased overview. www.theguardian.com/sustainable-business/2015/jun/24/agenda-21-conspiracy-theory-sustainability

peachgreen · 12/06/2019 10:46

Not that the Daily Beast article is biased, apologies - I just meant that the Guardian article is quite a good unbiased summary

Limer · 12/06/2019 13:41

Loved last night's episode, brilliant acting all round. Well and truly in the future now! I like the fact that things like the Red Zones aren't clearly explained - that's what happens in real life, society sleepwalks into situations like that.

I liked the 80 days of rain and the flooding reporting! Tomasz Schafernaker must've had fun doing that. I wonder if they just let him create his own graphics and weather report?

So who are the mysterious "they" who would have Viv Rook killed? The same ones who've paid for Bethany's tech implants (and will presumably expect a return on their investment)? Looking forward to next week!

CaptainMyCaptain · 12/06/2019 14:13

I think next week is the last episode. I can't see it ending happily.

historysock · 12/06/2019 14:45

Just watched. Chilled by Steven.cant believe he did that-not totally sure it was in character but then that's what the world he is living in has done to him
I guess.

BettysLeftTentacle · 12/06/2019 15:51

Haven’t read all your comments yet. Initial thoughts were, how brilliant that the red zones and concentration camps have just crept into society quietly and unassumingly, so nobody would notice until it was too late. It’s very very accurate! By the time we finally realise fascism has taken over, it’ll have been here for a long time before hand. The very beginnings of ‘red zones’ are already in place in certain areas of London.

I think Viv Rook is just a front man, a vessel to get the scary ideologies and motives across. I often think of Trump like that.

CitadelsofScience · 12/06/2019 15:56

I just came to say I've been feeling a bit crappy today so I've rewatched every episode to make sure I've not missed anything and to look more closely at things pointed out on this thread that I'd missed.

I'm not sure how I'll get through the next six days, the possibilities of how this could end are churning over in my head.

What with this and Chernobyl we have been spoilt with incredibly tv.

woodhill · 12/06/2019 18:00

I knew about the Boer war in relation to the A level history syllabus on 20 century British politics.

I can understand Stephen being angry with Victor but this was a step too far.

Bethany is very naive

Lochnessgiraffe · 12/06/2019 18:52

I found this episode more frightening. I loved the love story and was so hopeful. Forget the tech the far right in Europe and camps here. I unfortunately know about the camps from both sides of my family. My great grandmother was a child in the boer war and just survived camps. Her mother and her family did not. And my other grandmother was luckily enough to be sent to the UK before the rest of her family ended up in Auschwitz. The thought of camps again is terrifying. Maybe Steven should be reminded of this poem before it gets worse for him. Though I have no sympathy for him. His poor wife celeste I have warmed to.

no it was totally I'm character, look at what he did at his dad's funeral. His dad died because after been knocked over by the delivery bike it triggered (I cant remember what exactly) a blood disorder or heart attack or something. But Steve saw another random delivery bike and follow it then reversed over the poor guys bike. just Why?

Then there was his Year long affair he had.

Then the way he went to see Victor, just to abuse him to make himself feel better.

He is a self centred selfish vindictive man.

I was only shocked as like a PP said I thought he had been shaken and seen the light after the talk of concentration camps.

MauisHouseOnMaui · 12/06/2019 19:27

Sepsis. He got a scratch on his hand and they mention that antibiotics don't work any more so when it got infected, he died.

Thank you Smile

RuffleCrow · 12/06/2019 19:37

Loving this show so much.

Jessica Hynes just gets better with age.

Anna713 · 12/06/2019 21:13

I am in my early sixties and had a rubbish formal education but I knew about the Boer war and the concentration camps. I dont know what is taught in modern curriculums but I thought it was a commonly known fact. I've just asked my husband and he says he has always known about it too.

CaptainMyCaptain · 12/06/2019 22:21

Yes. The Boer war concentration camps are common knowledge I thought.

honeybeehoneybee · 12/06/2019 22:25

Well I'm 35 and was not taught any of the boer war.
