Good. I really liked the last series.

Ooh brilliant, loved the last series.

DarlingNikita · 22/03/2019 13:50

Yay! I loved it and thought David Olusoga was an excellent presenter.

Glad I wrote a gushing email to the Beeb about how much I liked it Smile

Wonderful. This was a great series- so glad it's back!

Hurrah! Can't wait!
I have ancestors in Newcastle too so will be even more interesting for me than the last one.

My favourite series last year. Took a trip to Liverpool to walk down Falkner Street after watching.

icelolly99 · 23/03/2019 13:40

Fascinating and I am glad that some attention was given to the women in the home.

I know it'snot the point of the programme but it would have been good to have found out whether the young lad who was transported did make it to mainland Australia.

Dulra · 09/04/2019 08:06

Love this series so glad they brought it back. It is such a clever way of exploring social history

Someone made a killing in 2006
And what were the sellers thinking in 2002!!!

squashyhat · 09/04/2019 10:26

I think it's a fascinating and clever programme, but you would think the historian presenter would refrain from applying 21st century sensibilities to 19th century activities. Yes, transportation was a cruel punishment, and yes, to sentence it for the theft of an umbrella is shocking in our eyes, but it is what happened. Maybe the boys ended up better off than in the Newcastle slums. In the big cities at the time the better housing was always to the west of the slums/docks because of the direction of the prevailing wind, but they were never that far apart.

Also the scabies and scarlet fever episodes in the workhouse. The doctor's response must have been inappropriate for the board to have got in involved. But we never found out what he should have done - what the prevailing treatment was at the time.

Did anyone else watch this last night? It was very sad!

Wrongdissection · 16/04/2019 19:59

Aww I used to work with the woman whose house this is.

formul1isSoBoringNow · 16/04/2019 20:23

It was sad, was only nice to hear about the girl who to filey and met her husband.

RedForShort · 16/04/2019 21:51

Missed it!!! Thankfully repeated Thursday so I've set it to record.

beautifullybonkers · 24/04/2019 22:52

I grew up in summerhill square where the featured house is set - we have had family living there since the early 1900s and still have family living there today. I used to play in 5 ravensworth terrace as a child. I’m absolutely loving this series

fourquenelles · 25/04/2019 11:45

Gosh bonkers it must be fascinating to watch this. It's amazing to hear the back stories of the residents and to see how the area has changed over the years.
