Just living in my little fantasy world

SoMuchToBits · 07/03/2019 20:20

Thank you, I'll get Norm to put the kettle on pronto. He also has cups (for the Brew ) and wears a snazzy tie and a hi-vis waistcoat. Maybe the Great British Sewing Wasp could be challenged to make him a new waistcoat, as his has seen better days.

SoMuchToBits · 07/03/2019 20:23

Oh, and I do love a good haberdashery department.

Iwantacampervan · 07/03/2019 20:29

I had a lovely wander around some fabric shops in a street off Oxford Street (near the M&S on the other side of Oxford Circus). I didn't need anything but it was a good use of my time while my daughter was queuing for a signing at a record shop by Cambridge Circus. We don't have any good/interesting haberdashery/fabric shops near us (only Hobbycraft & C&H Fabrics)

iklboo · 07/03/2019 20:30

I'm really good at eavesdropping. And I'm one of those people strangers tell everything to. I'll go undercover.

Binglebong · 07/03/2019 20:38

Can I be a dog handler? BingleWoof can follow food a scent so could be useful.

My local upholsterer sells offcuts really cheaply. Got some gorgeous fabric and some pieces are HUGE. Grin

dontcallmelen · 07/03/2019 20:55

Love a good haberdashery wander as well, not that I know what to do with most of it, but it’s very soothing.
Now we’re talking a sniffer dog & handler & Norman with the high vis & a professional eavesdropper.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/03/2019 21:16

Iklboo

You will be an asset to the agency. I can hardly wait for your first report - leave nothing out! NOTHING! We want all the dirt every relevant detail.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/03/2019 21:17

Binglewoof's sniffing skills will be highly prized by our agency!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/03/2019 21:20

I wonder where the cardboard cut out will be going when the promotion has finished?

Same place that the unwanted Dr Apocalypse ones for some computer place went (and also a Frothy Cresta polar bear in leather jacket and sunglasses) - my bedroom. Grin

Halsall · 07/03/2019 21:20

You lot in the SE need to go on a secret mission/Grand Day Out to an Abakhan. They're only in the North (well, there's one in Stoke and one in Shrewsbury, plus one in N Wales, but otherwise all in the North).

The haberdashery and 'notions', not to mention the actual fabric, are a joy.

I hasten to add that I'm in the SE too, but I have cause to visit a branch of this wondrous place quite often.

PS they actually do Group Visit Discounts, I've just noticed!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/03/2019 21:24

I would be delighted to channel Penfold melen. I have long suspected that he is my spirit animal.

And don't worry about the funding

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/03/2019 21:25

*plan

dontcallmelen · 07/03/2019 21:28

Plans mission to Schady boudoir if cardboard cutout is nicked from the secret bunker in my garden.

dontcallmelen · 07/03/2019 21:31

Ok will let you off, as you have access to Siralans credit card & have agreed that you will channel Penfold.

SoMuchToBits · 07/03/2019 22:02

Here's a snap of Norman and his mates with kettle and cups. They can be relied upon to produce a good beverage.

Can we get the bloke who hailed Suralan's taxi plane? Can still see him! We would never have problems finding a taxi to jump in and say "follow that cab!"

BitOfFun · 07/03/2019 22:14

Another Abakan aficionado here- I would love to hide in there and be locked in overnight.

Iwantacampervan · 08/03/2019 06:41

I'm very envious of all of you with an Abakhan within travelling distance, my bank balance and home storage are greatful we are too far away. I've been looking at the locations and wondering if I can make a detour (with a full car of offspring, luggage and dog!) when we head up the M6 in April to visit my parents!

SileneOliveira · 08/03/2019 07:31

Didn't realise that there was an Abakhan near where the inlaws live. Will have to pencil in a visit next time we're there.

My favourite used to be Mason's in Abingdon in Oxfordshire, there were two separate shops, one for fabric, the other for knitting stuff and it was an absolute aladdin's cave. Not expensive at all, staff were fabulous. I miss it.

SoupDragon · 08/03/2019 07:37

Maybe there is a market for sleepovers in Abakhan like they do at museums sometimes. It sounds like a slightly gamer version of a Harry Potter book.

SoupDragon · 08/03/2019 07:37

Tamer version.

dontcallmelen · 08/03/2019 08:29

SoMuch fab picture of Norman & his mates, I reckon they could get us into Abakhan for a sleep over & rummage.

Halsall · 08/03/2019 08:42

Happy to bring buns for a midnight feast when we have a sleepover in Abakhan. Norman and friends can brew up. Impromptu sleeping bags and tents could be fashioned (I'm sure they stock tent fabric, they have everything else).

dontcallmelen · 08/03/2019 09:02

Ooh buns my favourite, bagsy I team up with someone who actually can make things, as am sadly lacking in any sewing skills.
Shall I bring the guitar?
