Anyone going to watch this?

Me! Cairo - dude, you're not a dude 🤣

HollowTalk · 11/02/2019 22:10

Nobody?

I'm watching Cairo (FTM) saying they're a guy, when they look very female - they can't understand why nobody immediately thinks they're a guy. This is making me think of an anorexic thinking they're fat when they really aren't.

Yes. Trying to watch with an open mind so will close this thread down until the end!

HollowTalk · 11/02/2019 22:15

Good idea, viques. Will do that myself.

So far it's just been appearance based and very shallow - liking gendered toys belonging to the opposite sex it's just nonsense.

I suppose at least the plastic surgeons and the doctors will be making plenty of money from all this lot.

HollowTalk · 11/02/2019 22:37

I thought that, too, about the toys. "I liked toy cars - that means I was a boy all along."

What I find really tough is the way other people have to adapt while losing out so much themselves. Cairo's girlfriend is lesbian - she won't stay with Cairo if Cairo wants to be male. Simon's wife has a really tough time - I hope she's on here.

hollow Talk, I agree, the family members had a really tough time. I felt so sad for Vicky's little boy, he seemed to be hoping the earth would swallow him up, I can't imagine the remarks he gets at school, well, unfortunately I can.

Kudos to Jackie for funding her own surgery, she did seem a lot happier than before, but poor Julie, she said she still loved the same person, but her life, her future, her plans have been turned upside down and inside out and I don't know how anyone deals with that without feeling a huge amount of anger and resentment towards the person who has caused it.

purpleme12 · 11/02/2019 23:15

It will be interesting to see the future episodes where it looks like the relatives don't necessarily take to it well

Singlenotsingle · 11/02/2019 23:22

Sorry but none of them looked convincing. Vicky was still a big, tall muscular figure with a deep voice and having to wear a wig. Jackie was still tall (for a woman) and with masculine shoulders, and Cairo (originally a very pretty, feminine girl) is never going to qualify as a Dreamboy. I finished watching, feeling sad.

Italiangreyhound · 12/02/2019 00:26

I felt sad for Jackie's kids, being on screen while their dad is looking for dates and setting up a dating profile.

That would be embarrassing for any child in any situation.

Voice coaching, hormones and surgery. I think adults are entitled to do all that. But I do feel sorry for the family and loved ones caught up in it.

Crinkle77 · 12/02/2019 21:54

I thought that vicky's kids dealt with it remarkably. They didn't seem phased at all and I think their attitude puts many adults to shame. I thought the end with jackie and Julie taking their vows again was lovely.

Anewoneforme · 18/02/2019 22:56

Anyone watching tonight?

Jenny17 · 18/02/2019 23:08

Pleasantly suprised about Jay and very happy too!

Anewoneforme · 18/02/2019 23:11

Yes me too. Really felt for Pete/Jo's wife

viques · 18/02/2019 23:17

Yes. Thought Jays story was particularly interesting. Thank heavens she didn't get her "top surgery" [ and what an unpleasant phrase that is] . I can't help wondering if all the trans hysteria pushed a girl unsure of her sexuality into making poor decisions, and how many more young kids there are who find themselves stuck on the trans train and are making far reaching decisions without having the ability to stop the process.

I really think there is going to be a dreadful awakening for many in transition a few years down the line.

As last week my real sympathies lay with Marie who tried so hard but clearly couldn't adjust to her new relationship, and actually, why should she have to. i thought it was telling when she said there were "three of them" , I'd her, her husband and his new self, and he couldn't see what she meant. It really must be like your husband arbitrarily bringing home another woman to share your life .

viques · 18/02/2019 23:19

ie not I'd

2rebecca · 18/02/2019 23:26

I find it bizarre that the men expect their wives to stay. It isn't just that their wives are heterosexual women who fancy men it's also the fact that those transitioning change their personalities and become ultra feminine. It does all become about them and they just want a fan club and this one did seem to fancy the image f them self as a woman.
Really pleased the young woman stopped transitioning

Italiangreyhound · 18/02/2019 23:33

Tonight's episode was good. I was so pleased for Jay.

I also felt tonight's episode was quite gritty, we heard about the dangers of unregulated drugs, we heard about the fact that people who detransition or desist are indistinguishable from those who don't when they say they will definitely continue.

I definitely warmed to Emma and her mum.

I just felt very sorry for Jo's wife (can't remember her name) and it was clear the friends were aware of how tough it was for her.

I felt Jo had to do what was right for her but so did her wife.

Helen31a · 19/02/2019 18:39

I have an interesting perspective on this I am married, well almost divorced, to one of the people involved in this. I'm not a bitter wife, I'm just a disgusted one. My husband is coming up in the next episode. We were married for almost 25 years and we didn't split up because he's transgender, we split up because he's a despicable person. I actually have a great admiration for the young ones who know who they are and don't destroy other people's lives one way or another.

Italiangreyhound · 19/02/2019 19:32

Helen31a do you mind my asking if you appear in the documentary.

It's fine to leave a marriage whatever the reason, and I hope life is better now. Flowers

Rockbird · 19/02/2019 19:36

I'm watching it. It's fascinating viewing but I can't help feeling for Marie. Transitioning and expecting your partner to stay married and supportive is incredibly selfish.

And I just kept thinking that Jay's dad was right and obviously knew her better than she knew herself. He said she'd regret the surgery and thankfully she realised it wasn't for her in time.

Italiangreyhound · 19/02/2019 19:40

Rockbird I was so relieved for Jay. But also felt pleased for Emma that she got the help she needed.

It is a very tricky thing, it seems, to know what will actually be right for a person in the future.

TinselAngel · 19/02/2019 19:44

Hi @Helen31a are you aware of the Trans Widows threads on here? If not then do come on over.

Rockbird · 19/02/2019 19:49

Emma seemed to be the most grounded of them. It seemed to be a natural progression for her which I felt was less so for the others, if that makes sense. Was very glad it worked out for her.

Helen31a · 19/02/2019 19:49

My story is a long one. We have 4 children together. I never ever knew about any of this. He hasn't even told his children he's appearing on it. He told our 2 eldest after he had already changed his name. He has destroyed us. He cheated, he lied and now he has totally disregarded the ripple effect this is going to have on our children
