TV LICENCE.... Out of all the taxes and bills in life, I personally hated paying this one!

yes or no? Agree or disagree? Fair or unfair?

I find the BBC so Biased that I can not bring myself to support it any longer!
Also with technology these days its more out of date than ever as many use streaming sites etc.

Instead of scrapping this shameful licence, they are raising the fee as of April 2019 Angry

I think it's incredibly cheap, particularly given that it covers not only the TV channels but four very diverse radio channels, local radio and iPlayer. What other commercial channels would cover the range of things like Winterwatch, the Daily Service, Gardeners' Question Time, Tweet of the Day, Women's Hour, Strictly, Line of Duty, The Archers, and numerous others Where is the bias in those programmes?

CluedoAddict · 02/02/2019 08:01

I hardly watch anything on BBC. I listen to the local radio in the car so don't use that either. It's about time it was scrapped.

Nettletheelf · 02/02/2019 08:04

Why is it a ‘shameful licence’? The BBC’s output is fabulous. It’s well worth the licence fee.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 02/02/2019 08:06

I don't have a television and you don't need to pay for it for radio.

Jaxtellerswife · 02/02/2019 09:28

Annoying and overpriced especially if you barely use their services. Also resent giving money to a company that have covered up so many things over the years. But won't derail the thread!

FixTheBone · 02/02/2019 09:32

To all the complainers, stop paying it then.

AviatorShades · 02/02/2019 12:08

I willingly pay the radio and TV licence. The money funds amazing programmes, many of which are available on iplayer. Last night I watched 'what we did on our holidays' (or similar),first broadcast in 2004 I think.Glorious lough out loud moments when the three children give the dead granddad(Billy Connolly) the Viking funeral he wanted.

Radio programmes too - I've been listening to plays broadcast way back

I'm quite newly disabled and honestly iplayer archives for both are keeping me (relatively) saneWink

I loathe how in the US everything is funded by sponsers via the interminable ad breaks. .

Jaxtellerswife · 02/02/2019 12:51

Nobody is complaining, just replying to a thread specifically asking.

Toffeeandcoffee · 02/02/2019 13:00

With the advent of pay per view and subscription channels the BBC should scrap the licence fee and go to a subscription service. (That will never happen as they would lose too much money. ) Or just have adverts. Every chat show etc just shows guests flogging their film, album, book or play etc so not much difference.

I think the JS scandal should have finished it off. Still appalled at that.

As you may have gathered, I really resent the licence fee!

SaturdayNext · 02/02/2019 16:27

I would absolutely hate to go to an adverts-funded BBC. The ever-increasing length of advert breaks on the commercial channels severely pisses me off. More materially, if they're reliant on adverts for funding they will never take risks on quirky minority interest programmes because they won't be able to afford them, and we will be left to the sort of bland pap that that is all over the commercial schedules currently.

AviatorShades · 02/02/2019 16:31

I SO agree with SaturdayNext ^^

Itssosunnyout · 02/02/2019 16:33

You can listen to the radio without a licence

I don't bother with telly anymore and just watch Netflix or go to the cinema

letsspeakup · 02/02/2019 17:10

Ok if you don't see the BBC as biased, then you need to open your eyes.. neutral/unbiased news and programs don't exist.

Everything in this world gets abused or used for gain of £$.. so come on the news and programs won't be any different.

Threatening letters and men knocking on your door intimidating people regarding payment of a licence doesn't seem legit..

Corruption controlled by the corrupt.
and we are the puppets.

I think the BBC News output has become more in favour of the current government, mainly down to the fact that a load of ex-Murdoch employees are now running it.

But the BBC on the whole offers the most diverse, commercial-free, sponsor-free output anywhere in the world.

They make high-quality programmes, and actually offer a service, ie making minority programmes that no other programme maker would touch.

As for radio output, if there were no BBC television, then there'd be no radio. Radio 4 alone is worth its weight in gold.

I don't enjoy reality TV, US programming or second-rate films, so Netflix and the like are not for me.

I feel very sad that so many people think that adverts and sponsorship are fine, and that only mainstream audiences should be catered for.

Heismyopendoor · 02/02/2019 17:23

Absolutely hate the tv licence and therefore I don’t pay it. We do not watch live tv or use iplayer so don’t need one.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 02/02/2019 17:27

if there were no BBC television, then there'd be no radio

Radio came first.

buttercupicing · 02/02/2019 17:39

BBC = corrupt
Westminster controlled - and we all NOW SEE how corrupt they are! Brexit shambles!

YES I hate the tv licence! So I don't support it by watching it and don't pay it.

If it was neutral / unbiased then I would support the licence with a few amendments that suits this century.

Chipstick10 · 02/02/2019 17:45

I agree letsspeakup. It pisses me right off having to contribute to Gary friggin Linekers massive salary. I so rarely watch the BBC and yes they are bias beyond belief. I watch Netflix and sky. BBC is shit

ArtisanPopcorn · 02/02/2019 17:46

I don't pay it, we just use Netflix and Amazon and YouTube.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 02/02/2019 17:46

At least sky doesn't claim to be unbiased

olderthanyouthink · 02/02/2019 18:35

Meh, we get it back when DP does a day or twos over time but annoying paying it out the paying tax though.

I love Sherlock and doctor who and some of the history shows and while Netflix has a lot more in it a lot of it is guff.

FixTheBone · 02/02/2019 19:45

@ArtisanPopcorn

You need a license to use amazon prime video.

(no, I don't know why either....)

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 02/02/2019 19:50

Doesn't surprise me, Amazon is also in bed with the government.

LoniceraJaponica · 02/02/2019 20:01

“I find the BBC so Biased that I can not bring myself to support it any longer!”

So don’t then Hmm

I have never noticed any kind of bias. Maybe I don’t watch programmes that show any, and find plenty to watch on the BBC that I enjoy. IMO the TV licence is good value for money, and I will continue to pay for it as I find plenty of programmes on the BBC that I really enjoy. I also prefer to watch programmes uninterrupted by advert breaks, and am happy to pay for that privilege.

“More materially, if they're reliant on adverts for funding they will never take risks on quirky minority interest programmes because they won't be able to afford them, and we will be left to the sort of bland pap that that is all over the commercial schedules currently.”

I agree SaturdayNext. It will ultimately affect programmes that the BBC sell to Netflix etc as well.
I am not morally superior enough to say that I never watch TV because I do, and I enjoy it.

oldowlgirl · 02/02/2019 20:05

I like the BBC - which it had stayed completely non-biased but still think it's s great institution.
