TV LICENCE.... Out of all the taxes and bills in life, I personally hated paying this one!

yes or no? Agree or disagree? Fair or unfair?

I find the BBC so Biased that I can not bring myself to support it any longer!
Also with technology these days its more out of date than ever as many use streaming sites etc.

Instead of scrapping this shameful licence, they are raising the fee as of April 2019 Angry

All hail the BBC!
We are not plants.
All hail the BBC!

You do not need a TV license to watch Amazon Prime videos!

Stringofpearls · 02/02/2019 20:12

I'm happy to pay it for decent TV, wouldn't pay anywhere near what Sky and others charge!

JaesseJexaMaipru · 02/02/2019 20:21

I think the BBC is brilliant. I can't stand programmes being interrupted with adverts so I only watch BBC, Netflix & prime. Quality-wise I think BBC & Netflix about equal value for money. I only bother with prime due to the free amazon deliveries.

Loads of people say the BBC is biased but actually it's a fairly even split with how many think they are biased left and how many think they are biased right, so I think they can't be that unbalanced.

Noonemournsthewicked · 02/02/2019 20:38

Just cancelled mine. I love bbc iplayer but don't want standard TV and can't justify £150 a year for iplayer. I wouldn't pay that for sky.

anniehm · 02/02/2019 20:54

The best tv is on the bbc, and it's worth the licence fee for radio 4!

Tasadoro · 03/02/2019 01:50

You need a license to use amazon prime video

No you don't. Only if your watching live TV or BBC iplayer.

I only use Netflix, amazon and similar so don't pay the licence fee.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 03/02/2019 18:06

I think the licence fee is a bargain, for the nature and wildlife programmes alone. No commercial broadcaster would be able to produce the sort of programmes they show on BBC 2 and BBC 4 or the kids' channels and we'd end up with all to walk reality programmes and 'talent' shows - no thanks.

Hmm 🤔 bbc bias

Amazon prime is clearly listed

Netflix is not.

littleredprincess · 10/02/2019 09:25

People will debate tv licence requirements for years and years simply because the bbc don't want to make it clear, so requirement is blurred. One person can find evidence stating licence isn't required and then another person can find wording on the some situation that would open it to interpretation.. it's all bullshit.. just like the bbc..detection vans.. (hahaha) and the public believe this crap!
What about when they pushed that a licence is required simply if a tv is in your house..
Least the general public slowly are seeing through these things these days. Licence holders has dropped and will continue as more people become aware.

No you don't. Only if your watching live TV or BBC iplayer.

I thought you didn't need a licence for iPlayer.

Abacab · 12/02/2019 16:10

When iPlayer was first released you didn't need a licence to watch BBC programmes on catchup since the original law only referred to watching live programming. But the BBC successfully lobbied parliament to amend the law to include watching content uploaded to iPlayer.

You can however watch catchup programmes on ITVHub or All4 etc without needing a licence. You just can't watch them live.

Abacab · 12/02/2019 16:57

Also IMO the licencing laws are outdated and the BBC should move to a subscription model where you choose whether to purchase their content or not.

It's not a question of whether the licence fee is good value for the quality of programming on offer. It's a question of whether you should be made to pay for a media service simply because you use an entirely different media service.

I dare say Netflix is good value for money for what's on offer but I don't personally subscribe to it.

If Netflix tried to charge me for a Netflix subscription on the grounds that I was watching the Channel 4 evening news would that seem justified? Obviously not.

So why is it suddenly justified when the BBC do so?
