Anyone watching?

Quite interesting. Very sad

What a sad programme

It was just desperately sad for all involved, the mum and the reasons behind her size and the resulting impact on her lovely daughters

Who also both need support with their weight

I am truly hoping that mum manages to continue with her weight loss and that the girls are inspired to do the same and that they all manage to live happier and healthier lives

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 10/01/2019 20:32

Really sad.
Also occurred to me how wastefullyresources were being used. Surely there has to be some sort of care facility that would limit her eating and free up the daughter. Like clinics for anerexics. Even six months of a carer has to cost less than all those home visits by a top surgeon, therapists and physio’s over the years.
I felt for those daughters. They need help now before they have their mums problems. You could see their mental health was as poor as their diets.

MiceSqueakCatsMeow · 10/01/2019 20:53

I was very sad for Jasmine. I'm glad they were all having therapy. The mother needs to get herself a life so her daughters can live theirs. They would all be happier and they'd all have something to talk about. She needs a professional carer, but I think the government's austerity measures mean she won't get one.
I'm four years younger than her. I have been thinking about her lonely tooth all day. I wondered if it was because of the diabetes that the others fell out. I don't understand why she doesn't have false teeth. I think the lack of teeth make her look older.
She was very brave and I hope she continues to lose weight and get outside. I think that the quantity of food eaten by super morbidly obese people is an eating disorder and should be recognised.

staydazzling · 10/01/2019 20:54

i was watching last night so sad, i hope it continues to improve in their home, i was also surprised that the pyschologist didnt view or convey the view that the mothers possesive behaviour was unhealty and also unfair. It also got me thinking about young carers who are overweight theres a high percentange of them, i was a young carer all my life (sibling disability) and I have always been rather overweight, i wonder their must be a correlation i imagine that from.a young age always having to come last.

PollyFlinderz · 10/01/2019 21:53

if that was a marriage rather than adult and parent, it would be termed as controlling, possessive, emotional abuse

It’s everything you said.

Wingedharpy · 10/01/2019 22:33

Regarding the teeth issue, diabetics are at increased risk of developing bad teeth.
Given that this lady (sorry, can't remember her name), has been trapped in her home for the last 8 years, I doubt she's seen a dentist for at least that long.
Her description of her own Mother's mothering skills make me doubt her Mum bothered about visits to the dentist to get her teeth checked when she was a child.
It all seems to be another facet of this lady's lack of care of herself and not too surprising given the poor care she seems to have received as a child.
I really felt for poor Jasmine and wanted to give her a huge hug.

staydazzling · 16/01/2019 22:44

anyone watching?

Ribbonsonabox · 16/01/2019 22:47

Yes its scaring me... I'm a bit of a comfort eater and you can see how it has crept up on these poor people

buckingfrolicks · 16/01/2019 22:48

She's so angry with him for not supporting her, I'm not sure she will be able to support him.

SarahBeeney · 16/01/2019 22:49

Yes I am. How come Sharon's weight has stalled? I know she's lost a lot but she is still morbidly obese.

SarahBeeney · 16/01/2019 22:51

Also,he's not that big compared to some of the American tv shows.

He seems much more mobile than Sharon, she isn't walking as much as him.

Lucisky · 16/01/2019 22:54

I missed the beginning, but this is the second time this couple have had a programme made about them. The woman has put back on all the weight she lost after surgery as far as I can see. It just seems odd to me to feature the same couple twice in a few years.

purpleme12 · 16/01/2019 22:57

The first show was actually about the woman even though it featured him too. This show is more about him and he's now put on more weight

OP posts:
SarahBeeney · 16/01/2019 23:07

Luc she's lost 18 stone!
And he'd put on 7 stone in the last 4 years since her surgery.

MarcieBluebell · 17/01/2019 00:28

Just caught up. The relationship between the couple is obviously very complicated. I can understand her resentment for him not supporting her but can see how he became depressed. I hope they learn to do it for themselves.

sleeplessinsomewhere · 17/01/2019 14:13

Watching on catchup now. So sad.

Sunny1990 · 19/01/2019 11:54

Looking forward to next week with the young girl. So so sad

Metalhead · 19/01/2019 14:21

Just watched the second episode; she’s a prime example that weight loss surgery isn’t an easy option or a magic bullet as she’s still clearly obese 4 years later. Maybe now they’ve both had surgery they’ll be able to
turn things around, it can’t have helped having him stuffing his face next to her all the time. Hmm

MarcieBluebell · 19/01/2019 15:55

I agree *metalhead. Also he obviously fed her when she was a shutin. I'm always very vary of someone who is a feeder.

I know of relationships to a lesser degree where when one goes on a diet the other sits and eats takeaway.

There's definitely no easy option. They will always be addicts.

staydazzling · 23/01/2019 22:22

any one watching?

purpleme12 · 23/01/2019 22:24

Yes

Interesting one I think

She's a lot younger than a lot of them you see

It seems to me she's got quite a lot of insight into herself. It's interesting how she describes herself as feeling relaxed and calm when she's actually eating

OP posts:
staydazzling · 23/01/2019 22:44

yeah it's a different pace, I think it's really important that society begins to understand this kind of binge eating IS an eating disorder.

IMissGin · 23/01/2019 22:48

Can’t help but think her dad is a massive part of the problem- very sad

purpleme12 · 23/01/2019 22:49

I did wonder about her dad...

noodlenosefraggle · 23/01/2019 22:53

There was a programme about diets I watched where a woman had weight loss surgery but still went to extraordinary lengths to get food down her. She would liquidise food, chop it up really small and wash it down. It was obviously a mental disorder for her that wasn't just solved by gastric surgery.
