It's back 😊

Its the usual, a couple with two young kids who have never been to Australia.

I'm watching on catch up. It's on weekdays at 11am.

Is this the one with a kid called Daenarys?

RebootYourEngine · 02/01/2019 14:05

Yes it is.

I kind of got the feeling the mum was putting on that she didn't want to go.

Purplemond · 02/01/2019 14:36

its a shame they have stopped the facebook page with family updates, im just too nosey and like to know what happens after

juneybean · 02/01/2019 14:37

Yes! I thought they usually showed a snippet at the end of the episode but nothing :(

Sweungjey · 02/01/2019 15:03

The BBC page sometimes do an update though not sure when it says they are thinking of going, how many actually go

ikltownofboothlehem · 02/01/2019 15:06

I did like the fact he based his entire wish to move to Australia on seeing Crocodile Dundee.

RebootYourEngine · 02/01/2019 16:39

I liked the FB page as well.

Crocodile Dundee a film that was made in what the 80s Confused

we always have a debate if Nicky is actually there, why send her all the way to OZ/NZ if she doesnt even meet the couples, is it even a real beach she is on as sometimes you see other people there, i care more about that then the actual families !

MadisonAvenue · 03/01/2019 00:35

Purplemond that’s something I always wonder too. Every single time I see it. Is she there or is it a green screen, simply because I can’t see the point of her being there just to film what amounts to around 30 minutes of TV for the entire series.

ICantBelieveItsNotClutter · 03/01/2019 01:19

I've always thought Nicki is on the beach simply because she was canny enough to insist on an annual holiday in Australia/New Zealand as part of her pay package, not because she needs to do any real work there. As said, she doesn't meet any of the would-be migrants there (though she may have done on a couple of the follow-up shows).

She's definitely on a real beach as sometimes you see the breeze and I recognise one place in Port Douglas (Queensland) which seems to be a favourite of hers - she spends several scenes there each series, regardless of which state the family is actually visiting!

Piggywaspushed · 03/01/2019 08:04

She definitely does go there! She clearly gets a nice frock allowance and a break in Oz and NZ to film all the continuity clips. It's a tough life.

I seem to recall that in the old days when various presenters did it they did meet up... am I imagining that? They certainly used to have estate agents showing them round, too.

I agree that the woman yesterday actually wanted to go there. The programme always has to build in a narrative , so they always have to suggest one partner is resistant. her fmaily were mentioned at the beginning of the programme but the VT actually suggested she did not have a massively close family and that it was in fact Adam who did. She seemed to be motivated by earnings more than any other factor

The places they looked at were very remote... it never came up what a killer of a commute that would be. In fact, work life balance was discussed far less than it ususally is so perhaps they don't care!

LIZS · 03/01/2019 11:38

Did I read that the fb page was no longer being updated?

RebootYourEngine · 03/01/2019 13:23

LIZS yes you read right. The fb page is no longer. Does anyone know where we can find updates?

mirage937 · 03/01/2019 13:39

they have updates on the bbc website

yesterdays family www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0bxbb8k

todays www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0bxbc0k

Bowbridge · 03/01/2019 22:04

Good to read the update on today's family. A much more sensible move with a 20 year old daughter left behind.

MadisonAvenue · 03/01/2019 22:18

I couldn't warm to the first family but thought today's were lovely, and I liked the fact that their families were supportive despite being upset at the prospect of them going.

howardmoonseyebrow · 04/01/2019 11:44

Anyone watching today? Wife apparently not keen but loved the houses in Australia. They had a budget of around £270k but quite small salaries in the uk 🤔

MadisonAvenue · 04/01/2019 11:58

Yeah, they said that they were mortgage free in the UK though so would have whatever they got from the sale of their UK house to put into a home in Australia.

The update's available on the BBC site.

comebacksoonsusan · 04/01/2019 12:11

Just started today's.

comebacksoonsusan · 04/01/2019 12:22

I never tire of watching people getting excited by the most mediocre of houses and 'life styles'.

Schmoobarb · 04/01/2019 12:38

Crocodile Dundee a film that was made in what the 80s

Yep and largely set in New York

I love this programme because the people are usually such twats

comebacksoonsusan · 04/01/2019 12:56

They're a certain type of person. Dull and unimaginative in their thinking that moving to a desolate suburb of a nondescript Australian town and having a kitchen with an island will change their life. That leaving their aging parents and all they know for warmer weather and a corner sofa will fulfill their dreams. I can't get enough of it.

howardmoonseyebrow · 04/01/2019 13:05

@comeback ouch! Scathing but true
