Dulra & Creamcheeseandlox, also in Dublin and saw the show the other day, absolutely loved the cast and thought Javert had a fantastic singing voice - also loved the way they showed him falling. Very impressive show.

creamcheeseandlox · 12/01/2019 20:51

He sings stars a million times better than Russell crow ever did Hmm

IamPickleRick · 12/01/2019 20:58

Russell Crowe was HORRIFIC

purpleme12 · 12/01/2019 21:14

I'm not a fan of the film anyway

... well I've booked tickets for the tour!!
I've seen it 4 times before but the last time was something like 8/9 years ago

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/01/2019 21:17

I'm clearly in the minority as I didn't think Russell was that bad! He brought a vulnerability to Javert that I'd not seen before.

Doobydoobydooyeh · 12/01/2019 21:20

I tried to get tickets but it kept saying tickets not available yet.

I looked on the official Les miserables tour website and you click on the theatre you want to go to and it redirects you to their website to book

Doobydoobydooyeh · 12/01/2019 22:02

Ireland finished today. Edinburgh starts on the 22 jan.

purpleme12 · 12/01/2019 23:25

I'm not going till August

peanutbutterdog · 13/01/2019 00:24

Queenoftheandals, I also really liked Russell Crowe. He didn't have the operatic vocal range but his acting made up for it!

EnidButton · 13/01/2019 01:27

I didn't mind Russell C either. He wouldn't be able to do the stage production but for the film I thought he suited the role.

Although I'll admit to using 'Stars' to go for a pee break both times I saw it at the cinema. It was the perfect length. Blush Sorry Russell

Moanranger · 13/01/2019 10:39

Les Mis film only film I have walked out on in a long, long time. I found all the singing so horrific, me ears could not bear it. Strangely, I found Crowe’s singing somewhat better. I think he is/was in a band.
I think the crap singing was meant to convey wretchedness or to separate it from the musical. Just could not bear it.
Sort of indifferent to Lloyd Webber, tho one of my choirs sings various medleys because lots of people like ALW.
Enjoying TV series tho, high production values on all fronts.

QueenOfTheAndals · 13/01/2019 10:53

The film was unusual in that the singing was not re-recorded and dubbed over afterwards, as is often the case in musical films.

Am aware this thread is about the tv series but I'm sure we'll get back to that after tonight's episode!

IamPickleRick · 13/01/2019 11:06

It was the singing, I just couldn’t get past it. I hadn’t heard Stars before the film and I remember thinking that it would be a wonderful song if it were sung by someone else. It was just really weak but he obviously did try.

And then I heard Philip Quast on the 10th anniversary recording 👌🏻

MissMarplesBloomers · 13/01/2019 11:22

The original V Hugo story was a real doorstop of a book, rather like War & Peace.

Monsieur Hugo never used one word where he could cram in 5 !! Grin

But this adaptation is saying rather closer o the book than any others I've seen, much darker story & realistic characters.

Beautiful to watch ( mostly) really enjoying it.

I also wondered about Cosette & had presumed she had been pregnant with a previous relationship, as Felix was only around for the one summer ? They glossed over that a bit.

beanaseireann · 13/01/2019 14:36

It's a tough watch as the story is so sad.
I'm also watching Resistance (on an Irish tv channel ) about the Irish War of Independence and that too is a tough watch - many violent deaths.
Both programmes remind me of watching The Handmaids Tale - I had to psych myself up to watch each episode but it's worth it ultimately.

creamcheeseandlox · 13/01/2019 19:29

Iam Phillip quast is one of the best javerts in my opinion.

Doobydoobydooyeh · 13/01/2019 21:12

I think it's really good. Also I never really understood why he was being pursued for a second time. This version has explained it.
