Surprised there's no thread on this. Did anyone watch it last night or has the series reached its natural end and is no longer attracting viewers?

OP posts:
drspouse · 21/01/2019 12:36

I'm certainly not dismissive but cutting out a big source of protein for children who are otherwise not very well, is not likely to have a positive effect!

Clionba · 21/01/2019 12:38

Sickle Cell disease is a genetic mutation of the red blood cells.
Lactose intolerance is something else entirely. They could possibly occur in the same person, but that would need to be determined by medical testing.

ChesterGreySideboard · 21/01/2019 13:08

Cutting out dairy can help with symptoms I suspect but it won’t cure it.

Clionba · 21/01/2019 13:11

How will cutting out dairy help with the symptoms of a mutated blood cell disorder? There is no scientific evidence for that.

ppeatfruit · 21/01/2019 13:14

Funny how much better my GD's health was than most of her friends, when she was in nursery, (she was bought up a vegan) no runny noses and incessant coughs and colds for her. She still is extremely healthy without her big source of protein

.Exactly ChristineBaskets I'm loads better without dairy!

Clionba · 21/01/2019 13:16

Has your daughter got sickle cell disease? It sounds as if it's being managed well, I hope she continues to thrive!

drspouse · 21/01/2019 13:17

Apparently cutting out dairy is magic.
My DD has some learning delays and is from a different ethnic group that often have dairy intolerance.
I wonder if cutting out dairy will help her?

ppeatfruit · 21/01/2019 13:27

Well clionba There's a lot of statistical evidence that shows that when the Western diet is introduced in to countries that don't traditionally eat dairy they become obese an unhealthy.

drspouse Try it there are lots of good plant milk substitutes on the market now.

drspouse · 21/01/2019 13:38

@ppeatfruit I was joking. You do know I was joking? Cutting out dairy WILL NEVER cure learning disabilities of any kind.

Clionba · 21/01/2019 15:55

Obesity isn't the same as an allergy.

True, Francis I though I Annette Crosbie played the part well. It's very upsetting when bright, competent, capable people can no longer manage and have to go into care homes. Always upsetting. I like the way they acknowledged her past, she wasn't just a cantankerous old woman.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 21/01/2019 17:33

I wish they would sometimes show that going into a care home can be a positive step. For lots of people who have been struggling at home going to a nice care home and being looked after gives them a new lease of life.

Bittermints · 21/01/2019 19:28

Rather depends on the home, though. Back in the 60s council-run care homes were not great. Very institutional.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 21/01/2019 20:01

Yes but I'm sure there were some nice ones, care homes always seem to be painted as depressing places where people go to die! I've seen people who were on deaths door in their own home be transformed with a little bit of tlc in a care home.

That ladies home would have stunk to high heaven with all that poo up the chimney 😫

BestIsWest · 21/01/2019 20:44

I thought it would have been lovely for her to have had her own cosy room, surrounded by her books, regular hot meals and visits from Sister Monica Joan. Ah well.

drigon · 22/01/2019 03:38

Never seen this before and caught Sunday's episode. Annette Crosbie is a fantastic actress.

HoraceCope · 22/01/2019 08:02

you have never seen Call The Midwife Shock

you are in for a treat with masses to catch up on! Grin

ppeatfruit · 22/01/2019 09:10

Yes Girlie Shock I thought why doesn't she have a fire? Then thought again!!!!!!!! Not one of her visitors held a hankie to their noses though Shock

drspouse that is a bit blinkered of you, because autism responds very well to the removal of wheat. Maybe other LD's could respond to the removal of dairy. I wonder why the NHS is coming apart at the seams if the general population eat such a wonderful diet?

The manufacturers of rubbish food fund a lot of 'scientific' research that seems to heavily influence everyone. Can you explain why my husband who believes all the hype, eats dairy, has flu jabs, ABs, for constant chesty colds etc. is ALWAYS ill and Iam not?

drspouse · 22/01/2019 09:27

autism responds very well to the removal of wheat.

Please don't peddle this nonsense. It is dangerous and preys on vulnerable parents of children with disabilities.

Dairy and wheat are not "rubbish food".

RedForShort · 22/01/2019 11:21

If you care to look into it (outside of codology) then no restriction in diet is needed for those with sickle cell. No more than making sure you get folic acid and keep hydrated (alcohol is cited as best to be restricted - I'd take a stab in the dark that's to do with hydration). Some diets recommend calcium rich foods.

If a person with sickle cell has a dairy intolerance (separate issues) then dairy probably best avoid them.

I thought then dad's comment about his pains increasing was interesting. It seems temperature effects the symptoms as does physical activity.

I don't know that much about it other than carriers have a high protection to malaria. Which is (was?) GSCE biology I think!

drspouse · 22/01/2019 12:19

Having worked in affected regions I also learned that!

ppeatfruit · 22/01/2019 12:53

There was an interesting television programme about a parent of 3 autistic children who responded positively to the withdrawal of wheat. I'm not 'peddling ' anything without foundation, I have no axe to grind, I do not support huge manufacturers.

You should write to the author of a very thought provoking book called Wheat Belly by William Davis MD. There is another is called Grain Brain. They are well worth a look.

Binglebong · 22/01/2019 14:16

May I suggest you start a thread about it ppeatfruit. That way other people who are interested could see it and we could keep this one CTM related. Smile

steppemum · 22/01/2019 14:17

there are also television programmes saying ghosts are real.

Does mean they are.

My mum has that book. It sits on the shelf next to her other 100 books full of dodgy science and dodgy diets that she has tried over the years.
