Love this programme but I really wish the guy with the beard would wear a chef's jacket...nothing more off putting to see a soaking wet, sweaty t shirt in the kitchen 🤮

"de-shell" a lobster?
Surely you just shell it?

WooYa · 15/08/2018 20:31

Ooh I love this programme! Off to bed to watch on iPlayer Grin

GandTthankyou · 15/08/2018 21:12

He also keep wiping his head with this hand and it’s so gross Confused

Idontknowhowtohelpher · 17/08/2018 00:19

I love Angela Hartnett - so capable, so respected.

KinkyAfro · 17/08/2018 11:22

I love Angela Hartnett, seems like a good laugh.

What is your favourite dish so far? It didn't look great but I liked the rice pudding one. Shame the sweaty git has gone 😁

I hate it when they use poncey things to serve up in. Whichever of the Dans it was who served his pud in a tray full of flowers deserved to be disqualified just for that.

Idontknowhowtohelpher · 19/08/2018 05:14

I thought the judges sending back the cold beef was a bit daft - what was the chef supposed to do?

Stringofpearls · 19/08/2018 05:29

I thought it was really harsh to send it back, it's the first time I've seen that happen and yet they've complained before about cold food. Bit mean! Not been blown away by any of the dishes so far though.

Agentornika · 20/08/2018 19:55

Bring back Angela, Tom Aitken is sooooooo dull

Agentornika · 20/08/2018 19:59

None of those starters appealed to me but the scoring was a bit harsh I thought

Davros · 20/08/2018 20:12

Just watching. H are about the NHS heroes "working 24 hours"! I bloody hope not. Sorry folks, can't stand Angela Hartnett. We went to her restaurant at the Connaught, it was not good. The food was average, the service awful and, when we complained about the runny chocolate mousse, we were looked down on and told "it's meant to be like that". Some other friends went there and, when one of them had a severe allergic reaction to a dish and the meal was abandoned, they tried to charge them for the whole meal.

Guienne · 20/08/2018 23:23

I assume all the judges are told to follow the same routine and style, but I think it's daft. They always ask the contestant whether they think some aspect of their dish is OK - why? The contestant might admit something isn't quite up to scratch, but they're hardly likely to say "No, actually, I think it's failed spectacularly". Then when they're summing up at the end, they always go "Positive comments blah blah blah. (small pause) But. Negative comments blah blah blah". Just occasionally they swap "but" for "however". Can't they change the record?

HettySunshine · 21/08/2018 19:50

Douglas Fir oil.

The most pretentious of all the oils.

BertrandRussell · 22/08/2018 07:38

Now that was really unfair. How come they all got a 6 when I make a better fish pie than that every week in the winter? Rarebit topped bechamel? It must have been unbearably rich and gloopy.

TrashPanda · 23/08/2018 13:12

Love GBM but I find Tom Aikens such hard work. I don't necessarily agree about the name of the goat dish. All the threads you see about NHS workers and tv shows about them seem to have a theme that dark humour helps and is everywhere, so surely it fits that.

iklboo · 23/08/2018 13:17

I'm not sure if it's the editing but Tom Aitkens always seems to come across as having the personality of a bread bin.

Idontknowhowtohelpher · 23/08/2018 14:41

Considering they are all successful chefs in their own right, Tom Aitkens comes over as very patronising in the way he speaks to the contestants.

I liked the name of the goat dish! and I would have liked to try it, sounded very tasty.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 23/08/2018 14:50

I think that the ‘story’ behind many of the dishes isn’t at all clear from the dishes themselves - and to be honest, I don’t think the story is really necessary - surely what matters is creating delicious food?

Guienne · 23/08/2018 16:51

Couldn't agree more, SDTG. The idiotic names of dishes are mostly pretty unnecessary also.

elephantoverthehill · 23/08/2018 17:04

I'm quite heartened to see that 'no gravy' is a heinous crime.

HettySunshine · 23/08/2018 19:38

Why does Bart's have a great hall?

iklboo · 23/08/2018 19:42

Probably because it's absolutely ancient (as a facility) and early surgery / teaching would likely have been done in the Great Hall with everyone watching (it's where we get operating 'theatre' from I think).

Floralnomad · 23/08/2018 20:10

I normally love this show but all the gushing about NHS ‘heroes’ etc is really grating , and I say that as a retired nurse. I’ve resorted to watching it off the planner so I can wind through great chunks .

jay55 · 24/08/2018 10:18

Totally agree Floralnomad, I fear weeks of factor style dead Dad stories.

Floralnomad · 24/08/2018 12:04

Just bought it to an annoying head yesterday when he was going on about the drivers who deliver emergency blood , anyone would think they were volunteers the way he was going on , it’s their job fgs it’s what they are paid to do .
